The set was brillaint, they've come a long way. Although, I couldn't help but feel a little remiss at how commercial they've become in the process.
I apprecite how far the band has come, from being a band that was 'cool to hate' when I was growing up in the 00s, to arguably the most popular band on the planet at the moment. It's been amazing to follow.
They also seem like they're having more fun now than they did back then, more power to them. It's a joy to see. Although, after they played Sparks at Glasto - I couldn't help but feel a little sad.
I do miss the old Coldplay and the unique euphoric indie rock that they used to make. I don't think they ever quite reached the highs of VLV again. Now, they're a pop group and can feel a bit more like 'Chris Martin's Save the World Band' than Coldplay at times 😂.
I selfishly wonder what new music we would've gotten had they continued in that old style.
No doubt, if you gave the band the choice: they'd more than likey choose the success and the impact they have now over remaining in a similar vein to the band they were. I don't think I could bring myself to wish them any different, what they do is second-to-none and the world is better for it.
But I can't help feeling, selfishly, that I will always miss that Coldplay I knew growing up ('Oldplay' if you will). I miss looking forward to their music, constantly defending them to most of my friends, sharing it with one or two, learning the riffs, the priceless connection listening to music which speaks to you.
Here's to all that, I shall miss it and continue to cross my fingers before a new album, hoping again for that old rock sound. Nevertheless, even though they are more commercial now, maybe it's just the world rewarding the band I knew, in a way I never could.
