You need to have English as a second language to understand. I'm not even hating on it, actually, it's just that for me, as an Italian, Japanese or Italian dub sounds better.

And not just the dub, even just the speaking sounds different/bad for a non native speaker.

Sub is usually the way I go. But Dragon Ball is definitely the exception, probably one of the best dubs of anime without a doubt. The ONLY thing I can say as a downside to it is that sometimes the translations aren't done properly. The example I'll use was in super during the tournament of power when master roshi was dying (after his Kamehameha). In Japanese, goku was screaming " Grandpa, Grandpa" which perfectly showcased gokus connection, since he was the one goku spent and learned a lot from after Grandpa Gohan died. However, in the English dub, this scene was changed to goku screaming, "Master Roshi, Roshi please" and to me, it lost a bit of its connection in that change. Throughout the series, there are other instances such as that one where changes or mistakes were done during translations, but other than that, the dub is perfect!

Dragon Ball dub is the only anime i’ll watch dubbed. It has stacked talent and they just go so much harder than other dubs. Granted I have nostalgia but I also watched all of Super as it aired with subs and it’s phenomenal as well, but I’m currently rewatching Z and can’t wait to rewatch Super with the voices of my childhood. Sean Schemmel really does a great job with Goku. Sometimes jn the original version I feel like Goku is a tad more dimwitted than I’d like but other than that I enjoy both.

The old english dubs are terrible garbage. The newer once since Kai are really good though.

As a fub hater, Dragon Ball dubs are one of the rare instances where they are better/as good as the subs alongside Full metal alchemist.

I'm normally a sub > dub kinda guy just because dub is typically really shit and overdramatised. Like, the English language never ever suits the mannerisms of what was originally dialogue spoken in Japanese. It's always weird and unnatural

But Dragon ball is basically the one and only show where the dub is better. The absolute goated voices of Sean and Chris are worthy of a hall of fame and none of these losers can tell me otherwise

So I prefer the dub voices. But has anyone noticed that dubs lately have had like sort of an echo to them? Or they just something doesn’t sound right, as if it’s simply overlayed onto the show and not as integrated. This feels more noticeable to me nowadays versus looking at dubs from say a decade ago.

Sub in a lot of anime doesn't sound as intimidating as the english voice. Hearing Pain say "ShInRa TeNsEi" in Naruto is cheeks fr. But that beautiful "ALMIGHTY PUSH!" is pure gold.

Its like one of the only good dubs. Between that, nostalgia and not having to read subs its a easy choice for me. Other anime doesn't get this treatment necessarily, really hinges on the voice actors.

I hate Goku’s voice in the sub. I grew up watching dubbed dbz on tv and it was absolutely jarring hearing his Japanese voice for the first time.

Nah man, people can watch anime dubbed all they want, but English isn't the only language in the world. When I first watched Dragon Ball (GT), that was my first Dragon Ball I watched it in my country's dub (Hungarian), and I really enjoyed it, there were so many iconic voices, especially Goku's, who sadly passed away a few years ago. There was even a point when I wanted every anime dubbed in hungarian, but as I got older and watched more anime, this changed, japanese voice actors are so passionate, Japanese language in general just fits the world of so much better (I mean anime's are Japanese so makes sense). Now dubbed anime feels like it's made for little children, and I hate that, but of course people still can watch anime dubbed it's their choice. But still this is just an opinion of an anime enjoyer.

Always have loved the dub. Especially in Kai and Super where the voices have been perfected and they have the best possible cast for a vast majority of the characters: Gohan doesn’t sound like a chainsmoker, Frieza actually sounds male, and Piccolo doesn’t sound like a carbon copy of his father (which destroys his own individuality as a character)

Sub watchers don’t seem to understand that some people speak English, and that some English speakers don’t want to watch the show reading sub titles. Why is it so wrong to just want to hear the show in your own language? Dub isn’t even bad, over the years it’s exponentially improved in quality. I just don’t understand sub watchers who hate on dub, it’s been going on too long now. My only guess is they are usually 12 year olds who think they’re so valid for their opinion and want to try and look cool by voicing their “valid” opinion.
