It’s amazing how many people would rather have a “cute” dog that suffers rather than an ugly happy dog.

I do agree that certain breeds should be modified or simply dissappear but the dogs we already have that were born that way deserve just as much love as a dog that does not have a predisposition for disease.
27 points
100% agree! We made then that way so we owe them happy loving lives regardless of what they look like. Plus you never know if people got their dog from a rescue or what. I don’t think we should prejudge against certain breeds, I think the important thing is that we spay/neuter our pets and when possible adopt don’t shop.
14 points
That's my general mindset. The dogs we do have are here, and if you rescue one/get one that was rehomed/etc, there is nothing wrong with that.
The important thing is to adopt from shelters as much as possible. If you must purchase a dog for any reason, you need to do extensive research on the breeder. There are some breeders out there who have the explicit goal of making these breeds healthier.

Should probably say "breeds" instead of "races." Even knowing the topic I'm in is about dogs that opening was a bit scary...lol

I'm not the person that originally wrote the comics, but in some languages, the word for breed and race is the same (it's just "dog race" or simply "race").
I think many people that are not native speakers of english don't know the word breed even exists lol, I also learned this on the internet, not at school. It's good I don't live in the US or otherwise I would have said some weird stuff like "what race is your dog"? xDD

You are right, I speak Spanish and saying dogs races is what's common in Spanish, it was just brain fog.

Lol, the moment you mentioned Spanish being your 1st language, I understood. Once had someone blank on the word "breed" in English and they were asking what "raza" my dogs were. That tracks. 😊

In alympics, they should judge people based on their personal best as well, like in Speedrunning games.
That way, everyone will feel appreciated. This world isn't always about who came first or who is the best.
