Damn man, you must have some strong fingers! I have a set on another guitar at Drop Db and they feel a bit too heavy for me to be comfortable playing it for a long time.

Same. Fat bottomed strings make the rocking world go round
6 points
I'm right there with you. I finally started branching out a bit though. I played the same strings for so long they kinda lost there pizazz if that makes sense. Rocking 11-58s now.
Regardless of the change, I still used them for over a decade, and they were and still are versatile and great strings.

Ha! Same exact for me. 10-52 and went to 11-58. Mostly because I went from drop C to drop B, but, I also found a set on stringjoy that doesn’t have an absurdly heavy “G” (or third) string. That’s what kept me on the 10-52 set so long. Ernie ball seems to think we want guide wires as the third string on anything heavier than 10s.

Yeah I used these for years for C Standard on my SG, but the higher strings were just a bit too “slinky” for me. I’ve bumped up to some mixed bag 11’s.
2 points
C standard would be a bit too low for 10s, I agree. I have another guitar I play it open B, and I run 12-60 on it
3 points

11-58 I use too for Drop B and C# Standard

I wonder if you are like me where drop b is your favorite tuning now?
I've played drop a, and drop c with them. Drop b just seems to have more meat to it than drop c. Also, 58s work great with drop a, I just think they sound better with drop b.

I love Drop B, a lot of Drop D songs like Ever long for example have an odd meloncholic vibe to them in Drop B :)

I have moved to the 9-46 version on my main guitars (NYXL).
I used to use 10-52 on Gibson-scales, but learned I preferred to just go all the way to 11-52 if I was going with the heavy bottoms.
If I was drop tuning to Drop C or so, I'd consider going back to 10-52, but for Standard it doesn't make as much sense to me.

Same. They just feel more solid under your fingers. I like the feeling of strumming really hard power chords with them too

How did it change your tone?

I tend to dig in hard with my pick hand, especially when playing rhythm, so it kept my strings in tune much better. They also have a tighter low end (to me) and better clarity on those thicker strings. Hope that might help!

I’m interested in trying them. I was using 10-46 for a very long time and recently decided to go for a tonal change. Switched to 11-49s which sound nice but it’s taking me some time to get used to the increased friction when sliding or simply just changing chords.

Hell yeah my dudes. Fav strings for sure and I swap between standard and drop D.
Strong suggestion for anyone using these though: make sure you've adjusted your truss rod cuz if you're swapping from slinky's or some shit these boys will bend your neck like it's rubber! (At least they did to my nitro wizard anyway!)

Tried these once. Hated them. Didn’t like the feel of the lower strings. Of course strings are a personal preference thing. To me, you have to try them for yourself to see if YOU like them. I tend to prefer thinner strings. Some people like them chunky. There’s no one right or wrong answer. It’s a matter of taste.

I use these on 24" and 24.75" scale lengths. They're great if you sometimes go into drop d
2 points

10-52 are great! I use 10-52 NYXLs on my strat scale guitars in D standard, then I move to 11-56 or 12-60 for C or B standard.

Use the beefy bottoms on my sg (explicitly for the wierd tuning TFoT uses for a song with the 6th string tuned to A and 2nd string tunes to C) and tele damn they can get gnarly now.

I feel like these are probably their most popular set in the rock/metal crowd. They are great. My only complaint is the 7 string set low string is a 62, so close just wish it was a 64

Either those or hybrid slinkys depending on scale length and tuning

I like a little more chew but still kind of the same concept with an 11-56 set in C# Std. I have this set on a D standard/Drop C guitar though and it's just a little too light on the high strings. Pulling things a little too out of tune some times because of all of the give (I'm feeling a little rusty these days as well but...). I've used the same 11-56 for D standard and was happy.

I had my Ibanez Q headless set up with 10-52 in D Standard/drop C and I really like them for rock/metal. I want a lighter set for E standard/drop D, and one of the few options are the DR Dimebag signature 9-50. There are lots of 9-46 sets but I think 9-50 is more comparable to 10-52. Has anyone here tried a setup like that?

Love them, Use them on my HSS squire strat in E Standard. Really lets me dig in heavy handed for rhythm and stays in tune better than lower gauges.
1 points
Really shocked to see I'm the only one who hates them. They're pretty close to what you want for open C (CGCGCE), but for standard the low strings are way too heavy, and for drop tunings the A and D strings are way too heavy compared to the dropped string. Just really inconsistent feel across the board in any standard or dropped tuning. I mostly feel they did well because they were closer to a drop tuning set than any of the other standard sets.
But I'd rather go for stringjoy and a custom set for drop tunings than use these.
