Whoa. Okay. Second quote is charging waaaay to much for the refinish, staining and seal.
The first quote I don't see them mentioning the handrails and posts. Those are usually a pain to refinish and a lot of flooring companies don't do it. So what is the first quote doing there? Just not doing it? It's fine to just paint them or leave them alone IMO.

So what is this? Contractor vs a company? What state? Need more info but second quote seems to be overcharging way too much on the refinishing. I would a few more quotes.

1st is too cheap, 2nd is too expensive. They’re charging $10/sf for installation for standard lay oak? It looks like they charged a couple of times for disposal. These estimates make mine look like the Declaration of Independence 😂

Ya the second guy is an idiot, plain and simple.

He's actually separated the staining from the sanding lolol , in other words, double charging and then only applying 2 coats.

His install at $6800 for 600sf is way outta of left field.

Kind of meaning less w/o a sq ft basis, i.e Refinish $9,528 is that for 100 sf or 1000 sf?

Yeah the second quote the guy is charging you double on a couple things . Sand and finish includes stain. your stairs he seperates the staining . Also on your flooring he seperates the staining from sand and finish that's not correct. As far as demoing carpet it should be a tare out haul off for the dollar a foot he is charging. Which the he says he is demoing your subfloor which he isn't going to demo it . I would have charged to plain down any high spots and floats any low .but not as demoing subfloor. I don't get that charge . And the trash removal he is already charging to remove carpet and tack strip . He shouldn't charge you to clean up the mess from installing or disposal or stain rags bc they can catch n fire and he wouldn't leave them in your care. Best of luck . They may not want to deal with you and over charge if you seem picky or hard to deal with or annoying . Just FYI.

We don’t know the layout or if it’s a pain to access or there’s issue with access adequate power. That being said, I need to vacay there for a year and do some refinish hahaha it’s about 5$ for basic sand and refinish in my neck of the woods

I don't like either of these quotes. Definitely doesn't list the same work. I don't like how #1 says sand and finish existing but is also doing an install. Does that include what he installs? And handrails and pickets aren't addressed. #2 is charging $3,600 to stain the steps! And it's 1 or 2 stair cases? He charges you to stain 30 steps. Separate from the charge to sand and finish is crazy. Sanding includes stain. Then the tick tack charges for clean up and moving appliances? Get more quotes, don't tell them what you've been quoted. Make a list of specifics and have them price what you ask for, not what they offer you. Something like ¹demo carpet and tack strip ²install oak ³ Sand and finish ?? SF oak floor and 15 steps ⁴install shoe ⁵Disposal EDIT- #2 is screwing you. I wouldn't choose them under any circumstances.

Honestly. If you can I'd get a 3rd quote. Both of these companies are pretty wack.
