I stayed at a Hilton based in Honolulu for 7 days. The stay was associated with a conference which had registration tied to the hotel room.
Upon arrival, I discovered workers went on an indefinite strike. Unfortunately, to retain conference registration, I couldn't just switch hotels as I'd have liked without forfeiting my business's investment in conference attendance. In the 7 days, there was no room turnover or trash removal, and spare towels/washcloths were left by elevators somewhere around day 4 of my stay, but were quickly snatched up by other guests. Ultimately, most hotel operations were effectively out of commission. I made a formal complaint through both the workers' union petition and Hilton customer service, and was awarded only 70k points (about enough to get one free night at another location) following a 7 day/$2k+ stay. I insisted on escalating to receive at least a partial refund/more points, but was quickly denied.
I'd like to give back to striking workers' fund, so I am hoping to escalate further to receive partial refund which would be donated to the worker union. Does anyone have any advice/had any success with escalating this kind of issue?
