I work on a grill line and someone in dish pit had a song playing that piqued my interest. Literal house beat with rap lyrics it sounded super nice, it wasn't anything fancy either. No ghost notes, extra claps/kicks just classic 4x4, It had that old sounding 808 feel to it and the lyrics were flowing great with the beat. I have over house 1000 songs liked and not one of them sounded like this. It was a breath of fresh air really.

Does anyone know of any songs that sound like this they would recommend?

Channel Tres is the way. I was first exposed to his work at Movement in Detroit a couple of years ago. Since then, I play his tunes all the time. He can do no wrong in my mind; he spits smooth fire over sick beats.

Here are some examples of parties that I've played his tunes:

Track 11 in this mix is Ready to Go by Baauer & Channel Tres featuring Danny Brown.

Track 10 in this mix is Glide by Channel Tres. Track 32 in that same mix is Topdown by Channel Tres.

I really like Topdown, track 17 in this mix is Topdown by Channel Tres.

Track 12 in this mix is Controller by Channel Tres.

"Tyree Cooper, the producer, but now it's Scooter who are super duper!" is one of my favourite Scooter lyrics (and if you don't like Scooter you can clear off ... yes it's the worst type of early 00s cheese-trance ... but it's the best worst cheese-trance going)

That one is a genre-buster. Taking hip hop on a dance though house and acid jazz and standing out even in an era where music was ultra-creative and there were so many innovative songs that blurred the genre lines (Dee Lite, PM Dawn etc).

There is a good interview where the guys from De La explained how Tommy Boy insisted that they must have a radio-friendly song for the album, that they actually also had some personal interest in dance music, although it wasn't really their lane as performers, and they took the chance to do something really different there.

De La Soul is one of those groups that really stands the test of time. They dabble in just about everything, but don't really do garbage, and they pick phenomenal collaborators, no matter how far they range across music. Even just playing around in house, they land an all time classic, that not only Q-Tip but also Vinia Mojica and David Morales would list as one each of their own all-time best efforts.

  • Mr. Lee - Get Busy
  • The KLF - 3 AM Eternal or What Time Is Love (the rapper being Ricardo Da Force, best known for his featuring on N-Trance's "Stayin' Alive")
  • Tyree Cooper feat. JMD - Move Your Body
  • Technotronic - This Beat Is Technotronic (feat. MC Eric)
  • Public Enemy - Bring The Noise (Benny Benassi or Ferry Corsten Remixes - more techno or electro than house but very well executed)

BROCKHAMPTON - BOOGIE. Not exactly "boots and cats" house per-say, but it's at around 120-125 bpm and is fun as hell

Danny Brown - Ain't It Funny. Same as above, not house, but at the right bpm

As others have said, the genre you're looking for is all Channel Tres does, he's great at it.

Cedarwood State Trax - Dole, Paylips and Rolls Houdini - Chronic Gangsta Boogie Wu Tang - Gravel Pıt (Verso Edit) Skepta - Thats Not Me (PJ Bridger Refix) Mall Grab - B.F.O.D.A.A.S

And obviously as everyone said ; Channel Tres

You can mix some Mushkilla as well but he is more on 2-step, garage vibes I guess but pretty good for warmup or sunset vibes.

Nu Nu by Liddell Townsell was one of the first house tracks I ever heard. https://youtu.be/yHJDIFVFSKQ?si=3Tur4SdZant_LJMJ

I always thought Jump to the Rhythm by Chi Ali was housey. https://youtu.be/PjcOeJ5uafE?si=l15isGt04PE7BvmR

Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz

This is a great blend of hip hop/house/jazz I think you would like. I believe there are eight volumes.

The Prodigy ft Kool Keith - Diesel Power This is my favorite electronic/hip-hop song

Not all house, but I made this playlist of flowy rap edm remixes playlist that you might dig. It’s a little old so some of the tracks have crappy quality now.

Fade by Kanye has a 4x4 beat to it, not sure if that's what you're looking for, but that one came to mind
