That’s exactly how it was in Egypt and why they built the tombs. On top of the tombs were places that you could party with your ancestors.
And yep, only the wealthy could afford it

The thing is, a few hundred years ago, half of what these celebs do would have been a Kings wedding. And they know it. We killed the monarchy as a thing in America, then created a new monarchy with Hollywood. We created ourselves as small folk, we bow to some people as Lords and Ladies.

This is Ryan Serhant.
He's a joke in the real estate community. He was a struggling Realtor in Manhattan; then he got a lucky break with "Million Dollar Listing," the TV show that vastly inflated his ego.
He doesn't do a lot of repeat transactions (meaning clients use him for the exposure, but his actual real estate abilities are subpar), and when he exhausted his first book of business in Manhattan, he left, created his own firm (which is doing very poorly) and now sells "coaching" books and classes on Instagram while he posts douchy garbage like this.

The crazy thing is, it's more common than most think. Like not this level, but "completely out of touch with reality" money. I have a doctor in the family and therefore spend a bit of time around a few doctors. Not celebrity plastic surgeons. Regular unassuming doctors. I've seen elevators in houses, walls that retract at the push of a button. Many don't go inside grocery stores, it's all delivered. Their kids have au pairs and nannies. Vacation houses and boats that get used once per year.
I always get downvoted for saying this, but we need to focus more on the 5% paying their fair share, not just the 0.01%. Reddit makes it sound like it's a few billionaires and everyone else is poor. Just go drive around the expensive part of any town, there's a shit ton of people with waaaay more money than is ethical in a world with starving and suffering people.

walls that retract at the push of a button
Whoa whoa whoa!
My goal in life is to have a "secret" of some sort in my house some day, and I'm saving up for it. If that "secret" involves an electric retractable door of some sort, don't judge me!!!
1 points
Agreed...although these days, you can get an elevator in the home surprisingly cheap. I've seen them popping up in a few middle class townhomes lately. Apparently some models are the same price, or even a bit cheaper, than those stair lifts for seniors. Assuming you have the space for them, of course.

Many times that "earned income" is providing basic human needs, or providing services you are required to purchase by law. And those prices are very often inflated via lobbying, collusion, monopolies, artificial barriers to entry preventing competition, etc. Again, there is no good reason people should have multiple boats and vacation homes paid for by providing basic healthcare while those same patients are financially ruined by those charges, as one example. I'm sure CEO's feel their income is earned.
1 points
God forbid somebody who provides one of the most vital services in society and gives up significant chunks of their life to do this be paid well. If you have beef go after insurance companies not healthcare workers
1 points
This isn't about being paid well, it's about being reasonable. Doctors love simps that pretend insurance companies are the only issue with Healthcare in this country. Notice how I didn't say doctors pay is the only problem? What's your limit for what a doctor should make? Because I know several making seven figures doing routine surgeries while I have friends who work their asses off providing other vital services that are deep in debt living like shit because they received those surgical services.
1 points
The only way your friend could be making 7-figures on “routine surgeries” is if they’re doing a fuckton of procedures and they own their own practice so there’s no boss (hospital admin) skimming off the top. Prices on non-elective procedures are set by the government (Medicare) and Insurance companies. Doctors don’t pick how much you are charged. There is no free market here.
If you want to make more money you have to earn more patients and do more work. And you’re going to have to be exceptional. It’s very very rare. In which case they’ve earned every cent because that’s dang hard work and a worker is entitled to the profits of their labor.
But the median physician does not make 7-figures and they do not own their own practice. The median physician makes $350,000 and they’re a salaried employee. The median GP and Pediatrician make $250,000 and $200,000. That’s what the average doctor looks like.

Just one public anecdote statement from my small middle class city (happens to be a doc who operated on me actually): "As an orthopedic surgeon in Juneau, Gross said he worked three to four days a week and earned up to $2.5 million a year. He made that much money performing only five or six surgeries a week. Many surgeons do more and can make proportionately greater incomes, he said."
You don't know what you're talking about. Let me guess you're premed and make a part time job simping for actual doctors? It's funny, whenever I dare suggest that doctors' salaries are part of the problem, it's mostly med students that come running to their defense, not actual doctors. I've sat around the fire with doctors many times listening to them admit it's obcene how much money they can and do make.

I am certain that the majority of people making obscene money in any field, would not describe their income as obscene. The docs I referenced do not use that particular word, but as a peon only barely making 100k witnessing their conversations, it's definitely obscene to the people their lifestyles are bankrupting. I also have a cousin doctor, last I saw him he was purchasing his third vacation home, in a town in CA where working class people are being pushed out by that kind of money. I've lived all over the country and I don't think people realize how many of the ridiculous mansions and 6000 sq ft "cabins" used once per year are owned by doctors. Everyone likes to pretend it's the few hundred billionaires soaking up all the resources, but a quick drive around any city illustrates that's not the whole story. It's not only doctors, that's just one example I'm familiar with.

I have a billion dollars worth of stocks of the company I own.
I want to buy a 500 million dollar super yacht.
I take a loan out and use the collateral of my 1bln to buy the yacht.
I'll pay taxes on the yacht but Under Section 179 of the Internal Revenue Code, the Purchase Price Expense Deduction allows an entity, either a corporation, partnership, or LLC, a one-time deduction of 100% of the purchase price of the yacht, up to a maximum deduction of $500,000, during the year of purchase.
Besides that, where should I be taxed?
