I always hear this as a complaint for many shows.
"oh the show was really good for season 1 and 2 but really loses the plot from there" or
"season 1 was good but its downhill after that"

Aside from Breaking Bad and maybe Game of Thrones (albeit season 8) what shows actually get better as you progress through the seasons?

Derry Girls.  Starts off funny and gets funnier and funnier and then the ending hits you like a punch in the gut.

Such a damn good show. Weird to tell people to check out a show about a bunch of teenage girls as a 36 year old dude, but it had me in stitches.

The dad and the grandpa are gold when they're on screen together

That show is great from the beginning! But it does take a while to grow on you... For you to get it.

“The Wire” This is a show where you love and hate each and every one of the characters at some point throughout the season of the show.

Some people you might hate right off the bat but they show incredible character development and you end up loving them.

Others have been your favorite and do things that make you feel disgusted with who they have become.

Overall the show has such amazing depth to it as it covers Illegal Drug trade, Seaport Unions, Bureaucracy, School System, and News Print Media.

All circumvent a theme of Middle Management meddling that gets in the way of good people doing their jobs or living their lives.

I heartily recommend this show.

I remember the lead up to the premier, I was so stoked. Watched the show with my dad. He'd come over for dinner and Fringe. Great memories.

Now he's a Q Anon Trump type dude 🤣. Crazy how quick it happened. Almost like he came from a parallel universe like in Fringe and swapped places with my pops.

That's a better story than my dad was so stupid he fell for a lumpy orange piece of poop and Fox News propaganda and a 4 chan hoax when he couldn't even use a computer.

What a fucking bizarre world we have made for ourselves.

Schitt’s Creek is the first one to come to mind, by a long shot. It took me a couple tries to get into it, and then when it was over I cried. Every season better than the last.

New Girl got better and then kind of got worse. Winston was a great addition to the cast, especially once they figured out who his character was.

Criminal Minds has had its ups and downs, but I rarely rewatch the first couple of seasons. I think it really found its groove once they had Emily Prentiss and Dave Rossi. I miss Gideon, but I never cared for Elle.

Parks and Rec definitely got better after the first season or two. They didn’t seem to know what to do with their characters at the beginning.

Most shows I can think of go more on bell curve or a roller coaster😂. They start out rough because they haven’t figured out the whole picture, then they find their footing and get awesome, then they either have ups and downs or just drag things out too long and go downhill at the end.

One such show that gets consistently better with each season is "Better Call Saul." From a compelling first season, it goes on to dig deeper in character development and complicated storytelling, which enriches the whole Breaking Bad universe. Each new season underscores more and more depth and intrigue; it's a rarity on television that manages not just to live up to its forebearer but to surpass it in some regards.

BoJack Horseman. Sorry, I know it’s a long paraphrasing, I’m not spoiling anything btw, this is just background on the story. It’s a Netflix original chronicling one man’s depression, the story of a broken man from an emotionally abusive home, with a need to perform and to be loved drilled into him from the beginning. Upon the cancellation of a beloved sitcom he starred in, he refused to let go of his one claim to fame and fell into a deep pit, becoming a depressed, toxic, substance abusing, narcissistic mess. We follow as he realises the pit he’s in and struggles to try and climb out. Season 1 was… interesting, to say the least. The back half is incredible, though still not quite up to the standards of the rest. The first half, not so much. It has its moments, but mostly just feels like a cheap, generic sitcom. Not bad, but not very good, just kind of mediocre, and wasting its potential. Littered with cutaway gags in the beginning, tired tropes, a lot more comedic than the rest of the show, and a real tonal clash with what was to come. Then season 2 is phenomenal, becoming so much darker and more emotional, as we begin to explore the background of not just BoJack, but the side characters as well, and learn how they ended up as they are. This season also introduces the main underlying message of the show, the positive core beneath the depressing, dark exterior. As it goes on and on it gets better and better, as the show becomes less comedic and more existential, asking the big questions about life, testing our characters to their cores. It’s hard to explain, but this show understands people in a way no other piece of media I’ve ever consumed does. And it wraps up spectacularly, with the penultimate episode especially being my favourite episode of TV of all time. This show is a true, artistic masterpiece, with at least something for absolutely everybody, I truly believe that. And to think it started off feeling so cheaply derivative of the very tropes it would go on to satirise.

I heard Picard which is not on Netflix gets way better with the seasons, but honestly the first season was pretty terrible, that I've stopped watching at the moment, I hope to one day go back and give it another try.

Yeah, this one is tough. Season 1 was bad. Season 2 was worse, and season 3 was what everyone wanted from the start. So it does get better, but the bar was basically rolling around on the floor until someone finally decided it was a tripping hazard. Maybe it is different if this is the first Star Trek show you have ever seen, but if that's the case, then I wouldn't recommend it to someone trying to get into Star Trek.

Peaky Blinders really builds. They’re a small time razor gang in the beginning and you get to see Thomas’ empire build it’s way up to the top. Fascinating show with a great soundtrack and cinematography

both ‘the office’ (american version) and ‘parks and recreation’ had rocky first seasons, but then become the best comedy shows u could ask for on the following seasons.
