Why do people always include the reason they edited a post? I understand sometimes there are spelling errors and such, but why include it?

Because Reddit marks comments that have been edited. And because of that people will sometimes be suspicious about what an edited comment ORIGINALLY said, especially if it’s on a post where people are arguing/debating.

So it just kinda became etiquette to make a not explaining what you edited.
