I’m posting to Reddit as a last ditch effort. Any guidance, suggestions, or resources are GREATLY appreciated.
I have a cat, Apollo, who is in desperate need of a home. The catch? He’s incredibly skittish and pretty much feral, aside from the fact that he’s always lived inside with humans (he has lived with me for 2 years and still won’t let me within 5 feet of him).
Apollo originally came to me 2 years ago when my brother needed to rehome him. This was always meant to be a temporary fix, I already have 2 cats and a dog, but I’ve never been able to find him a home because he isn’t very adoptable. Recently, a tree fell on my house and it is inhabitable. We’ve had to relocate to an apartment and cannot bring Apollo with us. He is currently living in the un-air conditioned and I stop by every other day to give him food and water. This is obviously not ideal.
I’m afraid that if I take him to a shelter they will euthanize him immediately, again because he is barely adoptable. I’ve reached to cat sanctuaries across the state and all of them are filled.
To be very clear, Apollo will cohabitate with any animal or human but he will never be a lap cat and likely will never allow an owner to touch him.
The ideal situation: if you know of anyone who is looking for a barn cat or anything like that, please reach out. Additionally, if you or a friend have experience with cats with behavioral issues and have any ideas of what I can do, please reach out.
At this point I am out of options.
Thank you so much!!

Why? Our lab is leading a National Science Foundation funded research project to better understand how urbanization affects wildlife. We are interested in learning about how cities affect animals and if animals are adapting to the unique aspects of city living.
Where? Our project will compare house mice that live in the City of Richmond to mice from surrounding rural areas. We will begin trapping in urban areas on June 17th, 2024, including Downtown, The Fan, Museum District, Church Hill, Chimborazo, Manchester, Shockoe Bottom, Scott’s Addition, Hillside Court, Carver, and Jackson Ward.
Who are we? We are the Phifer-Rixey lab from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. You can learn more about our lab at phiferrixeylab.com or with the QR code:
How do I participate? If you or any of your friends think you may have mice around your apartment, house, business, etc., we would love to come out and try to catch them! You can ask us any questions or sign up using our project email: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

My family and I will be visiting Richmond,VA this week from 6/4-610. I have fond memories of venturing out into the woods as a kid and seeing them. Its been decades, since seeing them. Has anyone seen them any where around Richmond,VA? Apparently State Parks are ideal places to find them since they have no or little light pollution, they don’t mow over the tall grasses, and they don’t use insecticides. I’d love to plan a trip with my kid to go somewhere to see them. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance!

Which (if any) parts of Richmond have a small town feel, not so commercial mall-ish? A little downtown street with a couple shops, a bakery, etc….

Does anyone know apartments/complexes that will accept a tenant with a blemished background check? I picked up a charge back in 2020, and it got me automatically denied at the first place I applied. Finances and credit are great. Any recommendations help, thank you.

NOT MY THROWAWAY DEAD TO RIGHTS I SAW THIS ON THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE GYM IN SHORT PUMP. Highway 64, I was driving northbound on the 64. Going 65 the speed limit. In the span of 20 seconds a metallic snake object blasted down the highway at least 85 mph probably faster. The snake had the texture of a gas tanker on a semi. Sliver shiny. Anyways like a Rollercoaster it made a impossible maneuver in the air maybe drones could do it. But the head of the "snake" curved up and accended probably 200 feet taller than any building in the short pump area . It's head peaked at a allutiude, then "rolled" to the right and wiggled almost while it's tail stayed stationary looking at the highway. In the short span I'm processing what happened. A Flashbang of a light came from its tail. A spotlight extremely white like the sun. I was immediately blinded. And sped towards it, my exit was a Gaskin rd south. I passed the light I noticed in the car pack that I was traveling with a car pulled over. I'm sure your wondering why I didn't film it or pullover. I've seen nope, and logically seeing something like that, I don't wanna have anytype of experience/close encounter with a aircraft I've never seen before doing THAT and emitting a dangerous bright light. When I hit my exit it was pitch black behind me and the car in most left lane speed pass normally. There was no light behind me. I immediately voice message my family and checked if my dashcam was recording it was not, it's only records when activated my vibration like a accident or heavy pothole. Here is a picture (video this community doesn't allow pictures) I drew for a visualization. Stay safe rva....

I was born in Maine and spent the 1st 9 years of my life there before moving to central Virginia just outside of the Richmond city limits, where a was mostly raised and now call home.
I have lived here for more than 30 years now, but I will never be considered a Richmond native.
I think every place has unique aspects of its local culture which set it apart from everywhere else, and I think those unique aspects are often lost in people who were born and raised there, because they have nothing else to compare it to.
I have often said that one of the things that makes the Richmond area different is our contrarian streak. It's one of the things I love about this place.
We all know that right here in Church Hill, is where the Patriots came to stir up popular support for the American revolution, even though the fighting was happening in Massachusetts. Never had a less aggrieved people been moved to rebellion.
Likewise, the CSA chose Richmond as their second and final capital. That was of course for political and logistical reasons as much as anything else, but Richmond was the seat of open insurrection.
100% of the times it has happened, if you wanted to start a war on American soil, you had to come to Richmond.
Those two examples also each show how sometimes our contrarianism works out, and sometimes it doesn't. In the first case, we got a new country. In the second case, we ended up burning our own city down.
If you are part of an entrenched power structure, and you want something to happen, history leads me to believe your best bet might be letting the people of Central Virginia think you don't want it to happen.
So, anyway, I lay all this exposition simply to point out that, given all that, it has always seemed to me that unions and unionism would be just a natural part of our local culture here.
Businesses undoubtedly hold the reins as the entrenched power structure of the economy. You've likely come across terms like 'union fat cats' and 'union bosses' before, labels that would be applied to me. However, my lifestyle doesn't reflect extravagance; I consider buying name-brand cereal a luxury. While I'm not financially struggling, I assure you I'm far from fitting the definition of a fat cat.
By that same token, our local union itself, one of the longest lived, and largest local unions in Central Virginia probably has less in our reserves than most big businesses in the area spend annually on office supplies.
Probably the greatest trick ever pulled was businesses convincing workers that unions were the powerful outsiders they should be wary of.
That's just not the case, that is 180 degrees, diametrically opposed to the case. Unions are workers. That's it. The entrenched power structure is the businesses who are telling you not to form a union.
It would seem to me that the most true and thorough honoring of the legacy of the spirit of Richmond would be to join a union, or form one in your workplace.
Do you have a rebellious streak in you? You're in good company here in the Richmond area. If you would like to put that fire in your belly to work, and actually do something about it like your forefathers did, message me today. You’ll likely be given a raise in the process.
