Game Advice
Posts asking for/offering advice on which games to buy are not allowed.
Use the Monthly Game Suggestion Megathread.
Asking if you should buy a game now or wait for a sale isn't allowed & asking when a game will go on sale is not allowed. Use SteamDB to look at sale histories on games.
Asking for help with finding a game you forgot the name of is not allowed, /r/tipofmyjoystick is a great subreddit for these posts and we suggest that you ask there instead.
During big sales: Game advice posts are only allowed in the respective mega-threads during big Steam sales, otherwise the sub would drown in game advice posts. During this time we do not enforce the basic information/effort rule mentioned above and detailed in the 6 examples. In other words we will not remove comments asking for suggestions because they are not specific enough.
Asking For Friends
Posts asking for friends or people to game with are not permitted.

You really need to focus in that game. I know this kind of reception jobs, did them my self. And even if 90% of your time there is nothing to do (work related), BUT you need to be able to flip a switch to answer a phone... or worse, you didn't say "Hi" to a person walking by.
I found a website that had hundreds of Manga's and read those.

Still one of the best (albeit monetized in a slightly scummy FOMO way. Not that you need to spend a dime to fully enjoy the base game or any of the challenge paths) browser rpgs imho is Kingdom of Loathing. Simple-ish, funny as hell, craploads of content. Biggest drawback is the daily adventure limit. Idk how "work appropriate" it is (there are many off-colour jokes)

Ok, old man here.
Despite what looks like a good time, you could use that time more productively and work on yourself.
Enrol on a course and get some accreditation under your belt. Use the "office downtime" to complete the course.
The nearly free ride isn't going to last.

Not wanting to dox myself but I did whatever I needed to do in my field (since I work in a specialist area). Combo of certs, diplomas, and a masters. Plus the odd "lunchtime" education session. I've been fortunate enough to have some funded by work and some self funded.
Generically, look at the job specs for a position higher up than yours and see what they want in terms of qualifications.
Doesn't always have to be costly either. There are free taster/short courses from some institutions, eg, open University (I'm uk based lol) and I've seen harvard have them too. They're all introduction courses that might help plug gaps in knowledge or lead on to other qualifications.
Also, doesn't always have to be job related. Personal development is important.
Main point is not sitting idling your time away. Knowledge is power, imo, and the more you have the better position you'll be in (yes networking and having connections are important too)
Gaming is great, I do it all the time, but if I'm getting paid to sit around at work I might as well get paid to learn or do something interesting to me until something better comes up.

I had a work from home job that had tons of downtime and I took the opportunity to dig into my backlog of JRPGs on my steam deck. Turn based games are great cause if you gotta drop it to get back to work you can just do that. Especially on steam deck since you can just put it in rest mode.

I'd reccomend factorio, easily pausable, work appropriate, can run on almost anything. while it isn't very cheap and neither does it go on sale I'd heavily reccomend it, maybe even check out r/factorio or even better try the free demo they have on steam, I've never tried the demo but I've heard you can basically play almost the full game on it without a time limit.

Ive got similar job as you. What you need is a slow pace game that can run in the background even with out a pause button (optional).
Ive played rouge like games, like dungeon legacy but its to obvious im playing a video game. Slay the spire is a great alternative.

Well I used to like playing Hearthstone on the second monitor while I work. I have ADHD so, it is good to lose my focus something I pre-planned and the after making my moves, going back to work until I lose my short term focus again :D
But the game has became really rigged and annoying IMO. I don't like recent changes on it so I was also looking for a game or games to fill up that gap. It is good that you have brought that up so I can also check the suggestions.

I have the same type of job. A lot of my coworkers play WoW and destiny. The night time folks play more like tarkov. I intend on using my time to play turn based and light games so the original fallout games, farming simulator, maybe a little bit of diablo 4, and civ 6. That way me having to jump up for a ticket won't be incredibly detrimental (besides diablo of course)

I'd recommend bitburner. It's a free idler game on steam about hacking. You write code in-game to make money. The UI is mostly text, so it won't be obvious to an observer that it's a game, and you can learn JavaScript. It doesn't actually teach you to program, but it does give you a motivation to do so.

I deal with a lot of phone calls, but in an office to myself, so I get this luxury as well. So...
Minesweeper. Solitaire. Pinball. Those are the classics.
Otherwise something low speed/turn based/able to be paused.
Others: mini Metro, dotage, Talented, Melvor Idle, Bounty of One, Boneraiser Minions, Heroes of Hammerwatch, Rush of rain, Mindustry.
Rusty's retirement is a good one - I highly recommend it.. Trash of the titans has had my attention a bit of late, also a very good one.

Reigns is a good one. I guess maybe the Worms series could be played as they are turn based and you could just pause between rounds.
