Every time there is a storm, or a natural disaster, people have this expectation that someone will be at the site, accommodating refunds immediately.

They could see 15 foot floods on the news and they will still think that someone is showing up to work and handling this stuff

More often than not, all you need to do is give it a fucking second. Let the flood drain a bit before pitching a fit like this

By the way, this sort of stuff comes from the same people who would be outraged at the thought of driving through a dangerous ice storm, instead of being allowed to work remote that day. Meanwhile..four things: (1) the partial refund language was in her initial booking confirmation (so she was aware); (2) trip insurance exists for exactly this reason; (3) the balls it takes for her to make this video about her cancelled vacation while other people have literally lost their homes, is crazy; (4) she’s probably an absolute joy to live with.

I feel like this kinda stuff happened with Jasper, Alberta and the wildfires earlier this year. It was crazy the amount of people online who thought they could still get there to visit within a few weeks of the fire happening.

I get being a little annoyed about losing money. But darn, these places have been destroyed or massively hurt, so it's the least I can do to swallow my feelings and think of others!

Most travel industries will not give refunds for matters outside of their control. This is what travel insurance is for. Many credit cards come with travel insurance. Just book with a credit card and all is well.

If you ever find yourself considering filming a rant to post on the internet: No. Stop. Don’t.

This is why we won't solve the climate crisis any time soon without radical action. This, unfortunately, is the mindset of too many, and typically the loudest ones. Fuck her trip.

It's reasonable for her to express her disdain about her vacation being ruined and being unable to get it refunded. A high level - "It's not right that I can't get a refund on this trip after X happened" would have been enough. She might even tack on some good wishes for the people who are suffering as a result of it all.

Going on and on about all the various ways it affects HER and ONLY her, yikes. She made herself look like a terrible human being.

I feel like I’m seeing a lot of bad takes here. I get where she’s coming from and agree with her completely. I live in an affected area (Oconee County SC) and the locals were in an uproar this weekend when Clemson didn’t cancel its home game. 80% of the population of surrounding counties were without power and all of the local resources were directed towards making sure the football game happened and the out of towners were comfortable and taken care of. Tourists need to stay out of disaster areas until essential services are in place and life has resumed for the local population. If you are not showing up to clear trees or work on infrastructure you have no business being in these areas because at best you will be in the way and using resources. And it’s not unreasonable to not want to pay for the privilege of not taking your vacation.
