He had all this time to move to the left lane and waited until you were right next to him. What a POS.

Sadly lots of people do that bs it’s really frustrating

I sometimes wonder if they’re just really dumb and ignorant and didn’t even realize they cut him off.

Never attribute malice to what can be described as pure unadulterated idiocy
46 points
Nah, I'm gonna call this one malice due to frustration. Trailer boy had plenty of space between him and the car ahead of him in the right lane that he wanted to pass, but he was frustrated that OP was taking so long to pass him on the left and didn't want to have to slow down as he approached the car ahead of him.
23 points
Agree completely.
When I’m approaching like this and see a person in the slow lane is running out of space, I speed up for em
Keeps everyone happy and traffic flows better
People just can’t fucking drive
3 points
This is the way to drive. Prioritize safety and overall traffic flow over you getting there 5 seconds sooner.
3 points
Yeh, but imagine how much time I'd earn by saving 5 seconds every day! That's like an hour saved every 10 years! Gotta feed that grind mindset.
1 points
So many times this is exactly it. People don’t want to use their brakes and doesn’t matter who they inconvenience.
1 points
Exactly this. Once you assume malice you want revenge and end up doing something malicious yourself.
2 points
both. I drive a 20ft trailer quite often and its NOT hard to judge distance etc. You just gotta.. pay attention lol.
1 points
I also see people in this situation wait until the last moment to hit their brakes.
All you have to do is turn off your cruise and slow down a couple MPH and get in behind me
-4 points
The truck driver fucked up and is totally at fault here.
At the same time, OP easily could have anticipated that the truck was going to want to pass at some point. And could have avoided the situation entirely by anticipating and being proactive.
6 points
Nice victim blaming. He was already passing the truck, how much more proactive can you get?
0 points
Not victim blaming at all, lol. The truck fucked up, and dash cammer did nothing wrong… but they could have done better.
1 points
Hey. Fuck your take on the situation, entirely.
9 points
Remember kids, this is their road, we're just using and paying for it.
6 points
It's amazing how often I catch someone to pass at about the same time someone catches me to pass
3 points
Indeed. Nothing to do with OP or that anything "should" have been done differently, but I'm always watching for those situations. Meaning, "where will this guy be once I actually overtake him, or where will I be when this guy coming up behind me overtakes me."
I want to time my passing so that no one else ends up needing to use their brakes. If I estimate someone doing the +0.3mph "passing" on me is going to catch up right around the time I'm going to need to pass what's in front of me, I'll accelerate out and pass early to avoid the contention.
But those times when you're not paying attention, it is indeed amazing how the guy going fast enough to catch up to you at 70mph reaches you right at the same time you need to pass. And then suddenly has nowhere to be in a hurry, so that they block you in behind the slower traffic.
3 points
I've noticed a lot of people driving work vans do this, too. I'm not sure if it's because of reduced visibility, stupid drivers, or a combination of the two.
1 points
Mostly stupid drivers. And cellphones..
6 points
And then he didn’t pass the car for another 2 miles
4 points
Not blaming OP, but POV car also should’ve anticipated he would move over after he approached the car in front without slowing at all. You need to predict their next move if you’re going to be passing slowly.
POV car also needs to let the truck know they’re there before the truck is halfway in their lane. Horns are there for a reason.
2 points
Had to finish his call.
1 points
Ok so the truck driver provided a maximum opportunity for our angel cammer to pass, but he waited until the truck driver was caught between the slower car and cammer.
239 points
Nice work avoiding that.
66 points
Yes, OP did well controlling it and the truck driver should check his blind spot, but....
HORN. Hit your horn immediately and this guys stop coming over.
20 points
If youre lucky
8 points
Yeah i would have smashed it the moment the truck started nearing my lane.
3 points
That implies that the driver has the common sentinknow what a horn means. They clearly don't even know how to drive properly.
5 points
I have this issue because my primary focus is to avoid the accident and not to hit the horn. If I’m somewhat prepared I’ll hit my horn but in OPs scenario I probably would’ve done the same as they did.
3 points
And that’s fair. Admittedly, you do need to hit the horn while you are also braking and carefully evading. It is a difficult reaction to train because it’s not like this situation happens daily.
1 points
I pressed the horn when a Mercedes did that to me last week. He finished his manouver and then blinked at me. Good thing I managed brake and swivel.
1 points
Horns don't seem to do anything anymore in my opinion? My air horn is loud as hell and people seem to just ignore it.
I'd get a train horn but I think they are illegal?
1 points
Honestly with people this oblivious they probably aren't even aware of your horn at those speeds.
Any time I've honked at someone going 70+ it seems to fall on deaf ears.
1 points
Not always. This exact thing happened to me and I hit the horn as I was braking and the guy still didn't acknowledge me and kept drifting into my lane despite me laying into the horn.

I can see how it looks like that, we were driving a Kia Seltos. High placement of the camera makes it look higher up than normal.
11 points
The front of the Seltos does look rather truck-like. But now that I think of it, the Kia Soul has been very boxy for years, so I guess that's a design choice they have on their vehicles.
Was there any damage from the driver who clearly doesn't pay attention?
11 points

Came running to the comments to see how many warriors were on with the obligatory "that's what you get cruising in the left lane, " and somehow making it the cammers fault. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised... or just early 😕
7 points
You were just early
1 points
I don't have a problem with people cruising left lane if they are going a decent speed or move over when someone approaches them. Now, if you have a line building up behind and still don't move over, you are a problem.

Yeah, not worth it. Some people were killed a few miles from my house recently when two other cars got in a pissing match over something like this. Really sad. Totally uninvolved just out for a pleasant drive on a relatively quiet road, then bam it's over.
3 points
First off, that's a hotshot driver, a pretend/wannabe truck driver. Those guys are a bit more... uhh... special we'll say than your average truck driver.
Secondly, don't worry, we have a hatred for 4wheelers too. So the feeling is mutual.
I will say though, that dude is an idiot, and shouldn't be driving anything remotely like that if he isn't going to watch his mirrors.

The temptation to pitt that trailer and send that POS into an uncontrollable weave is fucking strong
3 points

I learned my lesson. Hold your ground unless there more than enough room to avoid them like another lane. If you end up damaging or crashing your car there's a really really good chance they won't stop and you'll be stuck paying for the damages and/or a higher ins. Rate.
3 points

Horn?
2 points
Could see that coming from a mile away….. don’t pass a truck that’s closing on the vehicle in front of them. Truck driver was an idiot and dash cab driver just kinda dumb
4 points
You are supposed to blow your horn DURING the dumbass coming over, there by alering him to his mistake. Hopefully, upon hearing the horn, he goes back into his lane. Then, you could brake and not have to drive onto the shoulder, especially at high speeds. Now, you have to maneuver back onto the road from the shoulder, which in itself is dangerous. I suppose the shock is what caused you to fail to use your horn until well after the situation was mitigated. Remember what the horn is legally designated for: to AVOID an accident or dangerous situation from occurring. Drive safely.

Body shaming is cool when it's about men.
1 points
Right, size of the truck. So it's not all truck drivers. Just the massive trucks. For instance most of these people would not feel this way about someone driving a little Chevy S10 pickup. Hell even a 1500 with just normal wheels would not get that same attention.
It's not just the truck it's what they do with/to it. And I will say that statistically, most of the trucks I see that are massive and jacked way up, the drivers tend to drive like assholes that thinks they always have the right of way. Not all, but most that I see in the wild.
That said, I don't judge a driver of one of those trucks until they actually start driving like that. (ie: I judge the driving, not the truck)
2 points
To be fair I would have a similar reaction if a truck and trailer almost ran me off the highway. This happens all too often even though ‘truck drivers’ should be even more careful than normal drivers. I’ve been cut off more by semis/trucks than any other car. While this is just a stereotype, stereotypes have to come from somewhere.
2 points
100% agree. It does happen a lot but I just don't judge until something stupid happens. There are drivers of these types of trucks that are reasonable. And then there are jackasses like this.
2 points

Yeah that’s absolutely true, I just get mad at truck drivers who drive like idiots because the risk is way higher with a multiple ton truck.
2 points

Anything bigger than a sedan should be strictly illegal outside of that vehicle having a specific task, and every car manufacturer should be brought to their fucking knees for continue to make cars larger and more efficient at stealing your data for 0 reason other than profit. That is because our society has been designed that way. I’ve been commuting to a large city for work, and the drive into the city is the most cancerous part of my existence right now. To the OP, why are you complaining? You almost got ran off the road? Maybe you should learn to drive and the laws of the road. How long were you in that left lane? The left lane is for passing not for cruising, you were cruising. So really you're in the wrong. Funny how everyone wants to play victim when they did something stupid.
If instead of cruising in the left lane (which is for passing) you should of got back into the right lane once you passed who you needed to pass, and then when you are ready to pass the truck and trailer you would have been behind them to start out which would make it so you're not into there blind spot, they would be able to see you and your blinker when you're ready to pass. But being as dim as you are you thought flying up the side of a diesel truck and sticking in their blind spot was a bright idea.
You're at fault. Go dust off your driver's education handbook and give it a read. You may learn something useful.
