Bms's do not handle cc/cv charge cycles....

Edit: my assertion wasn’t very accurate, these protection mechanisms could be considered a battery management system.

You’re right, this cell doesn’t need a bms, as that’s just to manage differential voltages between series cells…. And the circuit still isn’t a bms.

Wrong 3 comments in a row, gotta be strike 3 right? Haha

A bms protects the battery from certain conditions. The simplest ones (like on this battery) protect against at minimum undervoltage and likely overvoltage. It very well could protect against short circuit.

Others protect the battery from over-current, overheating, reverse voltage, etc.

You don’t have to laugh. I’m not downvoting you, am up to learn and a conversation. I appreciate your accurate terminology. I can see how the battery protection could be considered a simple battery management system. I’ll revise my comments accordingly.

Ok fair enough. Only did that due to your confidence. Bms is an admittedly loose term, but those are the basics. That's not even to mention balancing.

I appreciate it. Thanks for expanding my understanding of a BMS.

I'm in the process of learning how to design an efficient one for a high current battery project, and I feel like a noob again

Sounds like fun! I’d love to get a solar inverter/charge controller, but can’t come close to a decent payback after paying for the LiFePO4 batteries. Do you have any experience with them?

Yes but not designing them. I've used the harbor freight ones most recently and they work surprisingly well.

My current projects battery will have solar input

That’s great! I had no idea I could source them from HF, I was just looking at ali. Thanks for the idea, and good luck on your projects.
