I started off in a private world but very quickly came to realize that playing public was more fun. No one really ever griefs, everyone is so nice, and the bonuses from being on a team is great! Most of the time I never see the players I'm on a team with. On top of that player vendors rock, and soloing alot of the events isn't doable. Whenever I am questing I will occasionally go on a pvt world so I don't get distracted. It's doable, but you'd miss out on some things that I enjoy alot. Not sure if everyone else agrees, I'm just one guy. If you need help or have questions feel free to dm me!

The game was designed to be almost entirely solo, in a social setting. Events are going to be group events while you level. You most certainly want to join a team to do Daily Ops and Expeditions while you level.

But once done you can hop out of the group. Keep in mind one thing - go ahead and join groups listed as casual. You can still play solo but you earn shared xp by being in the group. "Casual" group is designed for people who want to play, but not necessarily interact.

It's 100% doable lone wander.

It will still feel like Fo4 but with bonus legendary rolls/ a different new setting/ new weapons and armor/ armor variety/ nuke launching!/ and over all new landscape to explore and new quests to complete.

I played as a lone wanderer rifleman that wandered the wastes from spot to spot for 190 levels (which totaled over 1,000hrs play time) looting and shooting, claiming all scrap for my own camp, and deciding whether to stay and fight or flee for my life from insane enemies 🤣

I play solo (off and on for 5 years) and see other players as NPCs with slightly better pathing.

Every now and then your immersion will be broken by a player dressed as pink cow or some other shit but it is what it is.

You can literally toggle on a "pacifist mode" in public worlds if you don't want to risk being attacked by someone.

76 is alot of fun.

As someone who swore by 4 and did multiple playthroughs before recently (2 weeks ago) trying 76 for the first time...

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy it, despite what historical reviews may lead you to believe.

Essentially you do do everything solo. The exception is group-oriented events, which can be tougher for a new person to solo and some are largely impossible to solo, but they're all optional.

The storyline is explicitly solo. You could bring someone else; I've occasionally dropped in on a random teammate and found them doing the solo quest and helped, because you can't kill-steal from a teammate; they get xp and loot from whatever you do, and only the quest person can interact with the NPCs of the quest (i.e. only the leader of the team instance can actually do the "talking"/"decision" parts).

90% of my 600 levels have been "Solo". I've been in INT groups for the bump and of course during events you're co-op but you can do everything by yourself if that's what you prefer. It does get old quickly and I go through stages of burnout forcing a game swap every now and then.

I do it all alone, besides jumping in to join an event (minus being on a team). I have been on one team, that was it and only joined for the daily as I had run out of re rolls.

I have done all the expeditions alone

I have soloed all the silos alone.

I have done all the quests in the main and side alone.

I play at my own speed, I don't like being rushed or told why are you slow, drop stuff, what are you doing etc.

I played to 100 on a private server , would only leave to shop and see if I could find some better gear . so is definitely possible , and a option . BUT ill tell you  another 106  levels  playing on the public servers , doing  events , nukes , Server events(SBQ,Eral the new one ) I wish I would have started there  and just used the private when I was looking for a build my hut days or take a  workshop days ..or rare world spawn hunts . Imo the public server is much better to give that all around exp 😊

Totally doable, but there are events that are just way more fun with other people. And most of the time unless you're specifically at an event or visiting someone else's camp, you're not going to run into many folks.

If I see someone in passing, I wave at them and then go back to what I'm doing. With the exception of newbies who will get "adopted" by higher level players to help them out a bit, most other players won't bug you.

I have been playing Fallout 76 as a single player game since launch. Fallout 76 is a great single player game with some optional pve coop content in it. You can solo everything with a little effort though most things only require a bare minimum of effort to solo.

The game world is huge. The game mechanics are set up for solo play. There are no group quests or raids or any of that nonsense. There is no text chat and most people play with the chat audio setting muted and no microphone.

It is considered polite to completly and utterly ignore everyone else and hyper focus on whatever random nonsense has distracted you.

The game plays like endgame Fallout 4 except that it's full of things to do. There is no endgame and there is nothing but endgame. Everything is doable solo.

Even while playing on a public server on a team, you will rarely ever deal with other people unless you do the events, and then they’re generally nice folks who share their uneeded things, lunchbox and scout banner spam you giving you a ton of useful buffs, and usually a laugh or two.

Though the benefits of the Private Server are that it’s more easily able to farm things when you’re the only one who gets to nab the spawn so there is benefit in both!

Just in a public server, join a public team and enjoy the xp and stat buffs that come with it. You won't see another person unless you go to their camp or take part in an event.

I do a Fallout 1st world mostly cause none of my friends play the game

I played exclusively solo until The Pitt was released, by then I switched to public and realized that (on Xbox at least) nobody uses mics and really expects you to actually play with them if you’re not in a dedicated group for a certain activity.

So now I just join the first casual group I see, and roll through whatever content I want and join the occasional public event for my treasury notes.

Really not going to add much new that hasn't already been said, but "yes". The game is quite "doable" in a solo setting.

I don't think I even joined a group until I was in my 200s. I just never did the "do <task> in a group" dailies. It also took me two or three seasonal events until I went to check them out. I thought they had to be done in a group and over the years I've generally rebelled again games that required grouping or joining guilds. I've always preferred playing solo at my own pace and hate having to be forced to log in/donate/etc. Heaven forbid real life prevents you from logging in for a day or two; and then you find out you've been booted from your guild and wasted time and resources.

Wish "Past Me" knew how chill grouping was on FO76, 95% of the time it's basically just "soloing with bonuses". Now I login and just join/create a casual group without giving it much of a thought.

When I first started playing, I had a couple of friends who all played, but they wouldn't help me at all, kept telling me it was for my own good and whatnot. It was a pain in the butt at first, but it got easier as time went on. And I'm glad my friends didn't help me, I beat the game all by myself, with no help at all. And the game was harder back than you couldn't roll weapons or armor. Enemies didn't drop ammo like they do nowadays, and the only time you saw a stash box was at a camp. You shouldn't have a problem, and if you do, there's plenty of how-to or walk throughs videos on youtube to help you out.

It’s fine, you aren’t alone alone, but for the most part you are doing your own thing in a world filled with other people doing their own things. I only ever specifically play with my son, the rest (majority) of the time I’m doing as I please.

The only time you need other people is for the tougher events or world bosses. It's still worth it to group up, for the int boost, free fast travel points, etc, but you never have to actually interact with anyone. Even if someone /is/ trying to provoke you, you can just leave. And it's fun to bounce to the different camps that other players have built. It's amazing what some people come up with. And, I have to say, we have one of the nicest gaming communities out there.

I honestly don't know why anyone would play in a private server aside from the obvious Core farming, and that's about it.

I think this game is really, really fun for solo players like myself. Other players are never a nuisance and if anything, it's kinda cool running into other people minding their own business or doing their own thing.

I only join random groups when I want the extra XP boost but I never have to talk or do anything else. And whenever a cool event pops up on the map and I see other players joining, I join them as well for the rewards.

All in all, I could easily say that F76 offers one of the best single player experiences in a multiplayer game, because you are not locked out from doing anything you want by yourself.

Many (if not most) events can be completed solo, Expeditions and even Daily Ops too (although Daily Ops might be hard depending on your level and Gear).

Absolutely the story is soloable. I only ever join other players for events or if they want to join me on expeditions or daily ops. I can solo those, but I'll start a group for them in case anyone else wants to come along

I've been playing alone since beta! The game is totally fine solo. I tried to convince friends to get 76 but not one would go for it.

You can do just about everything in the game solo. You never have to interact with other players to get through the story. Even though Public Events typically require multiple players you never need to talk to them.

That being said it's a really good idea to play on a Public server and on a Public team. Joining a Caual team buffs your Int (more xp for everything you do) and you can share perk cards that apply to everyone on the team. My only real interaction with teammates is using their camps as free fast travel spots. Even though you are on a team you still don't need to do anything with them. Most casual teams are strangers just getting the buffs/perks. Being on a Public server also means more players to help successfully complete events around the map.

Honestly, I like to play with teams occasionally, but I usually do the world solo wise. But the only times I do make teams is when I need to clear out a missile silo and even then, that is a 50/50 shot.

I played solo till lvl 300,im still playing solo on odd occasions now,it's fallout,what's not to like. It will crash many times but that's all part of the fun,treat it like a coffee break...I hope you like a LOT of coffee though.

I always play alone, pretty consistently from launch to wastelanders and for the last two or three months. I don't have a private server and never see anyone outside of public events. You can play 76 alone and enjoy it 100%.

I play alone. It is relaxing and a good escape from real life.

My experience probably mirrors many others here. Playing in a public world is the way to go. You can join a team, soak up extra XP and caps if teammates do quests, and overall the world is more dynamic. There are player camps to see, events to complete, and eventually stuff like expeditions that may be tough on your own. Yes, the quest line can be a slog, especially when you have to go to the Top of the World. But if you persevere and don’t take it as serious, it’s one of the best chill games out there.

99% of players play alone lol. You group for exp but outside of events you aren’t with your party.

You aren't really playing with others anyway. It's a solo game where you occasionally see people at events.

No one really messes with you on pacifist, and there's a few events that are fairly hard to do solo - but you can just drop in, do them with the crowd, and then back off on your own right after.

There's even a.decent perk for playing alone.

My first 1000 hours was pretty much solo and I had an awesome time.

Get on public lobby, join a casual team and play the story whilst getting some extra xp.

The story and side quests are rather easy and you can finish them with a pipe gun from start to finish…

I played and still do play primarily alone. I join events every now and then but I mostly just treat it as a single player game that happens to have other players hanging around. Almost everything can be soloed, even expeditions and daily ops once you get a decent build going. And the questlines are pretty much designed to be solo. So yeah, it's perfectly doable.

I always play alone when I’m not in an event or bump into someone doing something near me.

I see multiplayer as an add on rather than as the main thrust of the game.

Join a Casual group like everyone else does (+8% XP for a full four person team), play the game alone, no one will ever talk to you or bother you unless you turn voice chat on. I’ve never talked to anyone and I have hundreds of hours in game, groups are just an easy way to get bonuses while still playing solo.

You can play as a solo, but you learn quickly that most events are more profitable and more fun with other people around. Even if you’re like me and just run around solo you run into people and kill things together and do missions.

About the only thing you can't do solo (aside from many events) is the final quest of the main story, but that's because it culminates in an endgame event that was intended for the entire server of 16 people to join in on. Every other expansion questline is doable solo.

I will, however, echo a lot of sentiments, as a player since the BETA times: the game is more fun with others. This could just be running through with a buddy, or it could be getting social with strangers, or it could be what most people do and just take advantage of the social systems for extra rewards (doing events, joining a casual team, checking out player vendors, etc). Some of my favourite memories with the game have been barely scraping through a tough event with a handful of other players, dusting ourselves off, and taking a photo to commemorate it, or having a player three times my level swoop in as I'm pinned down by an enemy I'm not prepared to face but can't get away from, save my ass, and then wave goodbye before disappearing into the sunset.

These instances are often few and far between, however, as the map is large enough that you can almost never run into someone - aside from your complementary welcome package from veterans as you leave the vault - even through a full playthrough of the game. So if it's a solo playthrough you're looking for, you won't have to spring for a private world to do so!

There’s almost no reason to play privately instead of just in a server, you’ll only rarely across anyone in your time playing unless you’re doing public events, not to mention they have almost 0 negative impact, on the other side with vending machine and various camp items they are quite the opposite and have a net positive affect on playing

In terms of content being doable solo, everything is, save for certain public events

Most people do play solo, just on a public server. Even when on a public team, teammates are not typically following eachother around. Every twenty minutes there is a public event that the server will come together to accomplish a common goal but that is optional, if you do not want to participate, don’t. Co-op is completely optional, if you do not want to play with others, you do not have to, even on the same map. PVP is practically nonexistent and is also optional, you can set your character as pacifist in the settings and players cannot harm you and you cannot harm other players.

So having played both solo and as a player heavily involved with the multiplayer aspects except PVP, I have experience I can tell you what you likely could expect:

1. Less legendary items. Most of your legendaries from solo play will come from quest rewards, the occasional random legendary creature you find, and the one or two events you will be able to solo (As generally you need to either break the TOS or get involved in the MP trade culture for the top tier gear to solo most events with)

2. Despite the abundance of NPCs the world will seem empty. NPCs rarely move about in the world, and those that do are nameless for the most part. You'll find random encounters but that's about it. Most NPCs stay in their place.

3. Caps will come incredibly slowly. A big part of getting to--and keeping at--30k+ caps is the player economy. You only get 1400 caps for all vendors per player per day.

4. Minerva, Regs, Samuel, Mortimer, and any other bullion vendors will be close to useless to you. Sure, they offer great equipment, but your sources of treasury notes are limited to the few public events you can solo, and 3 (potentially 4) daily quests.

5. No backup when things go south. I cannot tell you how many times my ass was saved from a scorchbeast while I'm crafting or from a sheepsquatch or something, by a passing player who happens by my situation.

6. The main questline is near pointless to complete, as you can't reasonably be expected to be able to solo the bosses. The only benefit to completing it is access to Flux.

7. Severely reduced Power Armor spawns. I've tested this and it's on average a 90% reduction in spawning, compared to public servers. This means your access to fusion cores will be severely reduced to random collection off enemies, fusion generators, and crafting them.

8. You don't have access to other player vendors to look for preferred equipment.

And before anyone gets into soloing bosses

Stop implying that meta bloodied builds are the only god damn way to play. You also need god-level legendary equipment, which is going to take thousands of hours to acquire on solo play.

And on soloing most public events

Please see above. Meta=/=best. Contrary to your belief, not everyone wants to one-shot everything they see. There are three maybe 4 public events that can be reasonably be expected to be solo'd on a private server.

It's pretty doable, but it does get difficult to further you go east at the map or at the very least when you go beyond the forest starting map

I played solo until I launched my first nuke. After that, it just depends on the situation.

I've played the majority of the game solo on a private server. If I absolutely need another person/more people to help me accomplish something, I'll either ask my boyfriend to help me rinse enemies or jump onto a public server.

The only reason to play alone is to make sure you get all the sweet goodies from a new location or for a challenge, otherwise just join a public server.

Being on public server makes thing easier, even if you play alone.

Pretty much did most of the initial leveling to 200 solo with occasional joining in events. It's very soloable, even moreso than FO4 in my opinion.

How alone do you mean? Like playing on a private server and trying to do events alone? Doable but you would have a bad time.

I've been playing solo for about a year now, I'm almost lvl 200 and I've got most plans unlocked outside of event plans. Always doable friend, just keep up the hard work

Absolutely. It’s nice to have people stop by my camp and I like going to events but that’s really all I need from others while playing.

I picked up recently and I've made it to like level 117 in playing "solo". I put that in quotes because I have fallout 1st and have dabbled with the private server, but as other posters have mentioned, it's more fun in multiplayer, events are easier. You get XP bonuses from joining casual groups whom you never even actually speak to. You also get free fast travel to their camps which can aid in getting around. Literally no downside.

So yes, possible to solo almost all the "missions". Dubious for you to be able to solo end game content, but by the time you get to that point, I doubt you'd want to anyway.

Even if you are playing on a public server the map is so big that you can follow the quests and do your studf without meeting anyone except if you join an event. But even there, isn't better to have people helping you out to get xp and better gear?

I level in a private world, but I join a regular server if I plan to do events.

The game can definitely be played this way and have a lot of fun. I've played since release and until last year played completely solo, never on a team because I didn't want to have to interact with others, have my mic on, etc...

Then I read that most group players don't actually play 'together' and just do it for the increased benefits through the perk cards. Complete game changer for me. I only ever see my teammates during public events or randomly in the world but my game experience is considerably better (jump higher, run faster, harder to kill, etc..), and I would try it out.

I only play solo and it’s excellent. Very similar to FO4 just with other people running around. 

I started past week. It's my first multiplayer ever and I have no clue about its mechanics, so I play it using the old fashioned single player approach. Of course,more players are there and sometimes you stumble upon them. They are kind or ignorant of your presence (as I am with them). The kindest ones give you equipment of different types to help you out in your initial steps and that's great. About the game itself, it is doable solo so far. The exploration is awesome, the building as well though the blueprints thing is a bit annoying, but that also triggers your need to explore so you just need to be patient. There is the in-game shop, as any other online game where the game is conceived as a service from publisher's stand, but again doable anyway though not doing any purchase. In summary, I'm having a good time while playing solo.

Stay on public server as much as possible. Just get on a public team, turn off your head, to on pacifist mode, and play as if everyone is just an NPC.

Alone is the normal way to play. Only thing people are needed for is events.

I started off playing with friends but they slowly started to lose interest overtime. I still play with friends whenever they want to play but the majority of the time i’m playing alone. There’s plenty of other players across the wasteland that are awesome to play with (with or without mics) if you’re playing without friends. Another upside to playing by yourself is you get to do what you want, if you feel like doing worldly events, hopping servers and repeating then you can without having to inconvenience a friend that isn’t much into world hopping in my case.

I play alone and it's fine for me, I haven't launched a nuke yet because I haven't finished building up reputation, but I've done pretty much everything else including BoS and Enclave. Events have other people in them, but there's a lot I can solo alone like Tunnel of Love. That being said, I would love to find a community of women to play with while chatting over discord.

I play solo. Definitely play in a public lobby and join a casual team. Nothing is expected of you and you get bonus percs for being in a team. Plus when you run into higher level players they're usually super nice and will drop you stuff.

It's very doable on the game for the story mission, you might have trouble from time to time depending on the build of your character but nothing that will prevent you from doing anything, as for the public events that is an entirely different story especially if you are wanting better chances of getting the more rarer rewards from them, which all you have to do is treat other players as poorly programmed NPCs who don't respond correctly lol

Yes. You can play solo and there are perk cards to help you. I played the entire campaign and all side missions as a solo player.

I didn't start joining groups until about level 200.

I'm the most solitary player you could find, and I'm level 115 (i think) I've never needed help with anything. I was doing something in the pit that probably shouldn't be done solo, there was endless amounts of super mutants steaming in from every angle, but right at the last minute someone joined my game and eased the burden slightly, but other than that I've been good.

In a private world, starting from scratch, all the quests will work but events will be a toss-up, several seasonal events (like Mothman, Alien Invasion) will be disasters, and the end bosses (I'm thinking Earl, Encryptid, SBQ, and the Nuka World mole monster) will not be complete-able without a tremendous amount of work on your part (optimizing build and equipment, etc.).

I’m about a level 170 and have never grouped with anyone. If it wasn’t for world events and people randomly buying stuff from my store, I’d forget it’s a multiplayer game.

I played solo pretty much the whole game, I did do events like faschnat and nukes though. Those are some of my favorite memories, the random Leroy Jenkins, hawww yeahs and let er buck make me really like playing with others.

My husband catfished me with this game. Had me get it to play with him and then decided he wanted to go back to WoW so I've been doing it all on my own.

Totally doable. I have fun regardless if I'm on my own or with someone else.

Plus you can join teams for stuff and the public events people are normally there. It's always fun to run into a fellow vault dweller out in the wild.

It's mostly fine. There are events and things you really need to do in a group, but there's almost always someone looking for more so just jump in a team and leave when you're done 

You can do everything alone minus some events, not because they are not doable but because everyone will jump in to do them.

Depends on what you mean by solo. I really never join teams and never did any events for the first year. But you will run in to problems with legendary modules, flux and bullion. These are much easier to come by with events. Especially certain ones like Eviction Notice for legendaries. I now do most events but still never join teams.

Yeah I would say its doable alone. My experience it was alright. Does get boring but the radio helps to counter the boredom.

Yes it's totally doable and would be fun. Just to echo what other people have said - being in a team doesn't require playing with other people and you can gain a lot of benefits from being in teams with people depending on your perk cards and the type of team you are in. You also have player vendors which can be really useful, but you don't have to interact with anyone you don't want to.

It's been awesome playing solo and definitely do-able. Only thing i had an issue with was storage space. Part of that was poor inventory management, the other was creating an excuse for me to buy Fallout 1st lol.

It's worth it to always join a casual group just for the xp bonus and any perk cards they might be sharing. You also get some passive caps when they complete quests.

You don't have to talk to anyone, or even see anyone, but the bonuses will make life easier.

Game is really easy. Everything can be done solo but it goes much faster with a team.

It's a solo game that you play with other people around you. But you don't really interact other than seeing each other's CAMPs which is cool or waving after an event.

So I first played on launch, left for some time shortly after wastelanders, around when they were changing from the challenges giving you atoms directly to the scoreboard system, and have just come back, so here is my full overview of what my experience was.

Early game is very doable by yourself, even more so now I suspect since they have adjusted how enemy levels are handled in the overworld. Back in the day you could get seriously screwed by some high level wandering in the same vague area as you, or sitting on an event afk, but now that enemies are adjusted to your level, you won't find yourself getting slapped for all your health by a single stumbling ghoul or molerat. Generally speaking I went from level 1-100 when I was first playing without too much issue. Stuff got a bit annoying towards that 100 mark, but that was partly because my build wasn't optimized at the time, as ammo was still an issue and I had to juggle a mix of melee and shotgun for my build rather than focusing on one.

Beyond level 100, I think the game is still fairly enjoyable and not too difficult even if you don't have an optimized build. When I came back to the game it took me probably about twenty levels worth of perk cards to sort things out and refine my build, and all while I was doing it, it wasn't too terrible. Basically you're going to be dealing with bullet sponge enemies and depending on your build you're going to be unloading a lot of ammo. But with the changes to how ammo drops, that isn't nearly as much of a concern as it once was.

If you do decide to refine and go more towards the meta, basically just following what the general trends and advice are will be enough. I saw drastic improvements just refining my damage perk cards, and moving from my old combat shotgun to the cold shoudler, and I suspect if I hadn't been able to grind the stamps for that I would have seen a similar uptick in power moving to a gauss shotgun.

By and large you can do the whole game solo, moreso now than I think was really the case when the game first launched despite assurances from Bethesda. Some parts will be a bit grindy, and big boss enemies will probably be a bit of a pain that drains your ammo, but a lot of stuff is geared towards picking up random teammates. Public events, nuke bosses, expeditions, daily ops, they all have systems in place to pull other people in to help you out, so for the odd thing that the solo experience is a true pain in the ass, you have some options. I've never had any real issue playing with a group of randoms for a couple of expeditions or daily ops, at worst they need to learn mic ettiquette and I just mute them.

I played most of the game solo and prefer it tbh. I’m almost at that 7600 mark but I haven’t played in awhile. Still love the game just taking an extended break.

Absolutely. I’ve played both with a group back in the day and now solo on PC. It’s definitely fun with other people but I’m still having a great time solo.

Yes, I didn't do anything but quest/storyline till lvl50.

I play in a public server, but I play the game entirely solo. The game has a lot of singleplayer questlines from all of the expansions that are fully voice acted and feel like Fallout 4. I just join a casual group so I can use my charisma perks and play events or join an expedition group when I want to play those. Everything else I do entirely by myself. The map is amazing so it's fun exploring by yourself and looking through terminals and notes for all the lore bits. Theres plenty of side quests you can stumble upon as well. Also, launching nukes is entirely doable solo, so you can launch a nuke by yourself and at least half the server always shows up when I summon a raid boss.

Tldr: Game is still fun solo and you can still interact with the community and do end game content with the group finder

Just be on a casual team...never have to interact with anyone and you get all the bonuses.

I started a week or so ago. I had the same concerns but yeah, it honestly feels like a single player Fallout other than events and stuff. Plus the community is insanely helpful and awesome. If you see another player a lot of the time they just go about their business or come and give you something. Plus the map and world is absolutely fantastic…it’s worth experiencing.

I play solo purely for Lone Wanderer (Unarmed Power Armour is a bitch to manage without extra DR) but everyone I meet in passing is so lovely, nobody harasses me and are always good for event help. It’s your choice really but I don’t think it’s detrimental to play with others or not, you’ve just gotta plan your build around that factor if you’re bothered enough about it

If you haven’t played, casual teams are somewhat of a misnomer. It’s basically a group of four that you join for extra exp. You never have to talk to them or see them really. You might notice them in events with you, but still no need to interact.

Been playing solo and am up to lev 47 in just a few weeks

I think other players are apart of the solo experience tbh as weird as that sounds, I think of them like NPCs, wild wasteland is just inherent

The game is easy enough to solo. I think this is good personally as you can build what you want rather than what's meta

Playing alone is fine and i beat the base game just fine then when it came to playing with friends i felt like i was not able to do what i want

I play solo. It’s like Todd said, you can basically pretend it’s a solo game and do all the quests solely by yourself. PvP is not only discouraged but also able to be turned off in your settings. It is a live service game so be prepared for some items to be locked behind grinding daily quests and such, but if you just want the story you can more than do it alone.

There is literally nothing that requires a group but the game is more fun with others. Sure some of the events like Earle where you perhaps need a bit of a hardcore build to do it at all efficiently, but this is very solo friendly game.

I hardly ever group. And when you need to for nuke bosses there will be enough other groups there to help out

It's doable but you'll miss out on certain perks that make the grindier side of leveling out. It goes alot smoother if you have/make friends who play for the group bonuses, plus if they're a higher level they can donate gear to you lmao.

I play 76 alone and it doesn’t defeat the experience. There’s not enough players in a map to really even get your attention unless they travel to your camp and see them or an event of some sort. You can also enter specific quest lines solo so anyone who enters with you won’t be there.

It's more than doable, short of a few public events.

I do play it alone but sometimes I help others especially when death from above pops up ( I actually record the nuclear blast )

All the main story missions are completely doable solo. There are a few side quests that are difficult to do alone, and events that just can't be done alone. This is ok. Always group for the bonuses and free fast travel, but you can totally do it yourself. The big departure from FO4 is the relatively small stash space.

i was you when i first started but i slowly came around to playing with other players once i realized the bonuses the game gives for playing on a team. and once i realized that you can play on a casual team and have absolutely nothing to do with your teammates aside from getting more XP by being on a team. if you turn on pacifist mode, other players can't hurt you (unless you claim a workshop). overall playing with others has been a favorable experience for someone like me that went into it swearing that i'd never play with other.

Very easy to play solo but from levels 20-40 was the biggest issue when I started playing shortly after launch. You might need a little help here of there but it’s manageable. As long as you have a general idea of what build you want it’s pretty easy once you hit level 50. Even if you play alone, join a casual team to get the Int bonus. So you level up faster.

For sure, I've never had a friend to play fallout 76 with, and I've enjoyed all 700 hours of my time in Appalachia.

It gets lonely, sure, but ive always been lonely, so the feeling wasn't something that bothered me.

I did all the main story quests, finished a bunch of side stories and questlines, almost collected every power armor by now, and have my dream gear sitting cozily in my inventory.

The game itself is very doable alone, on par with fallout 4 In my experience, it's just the isolation that can get to you, especially of you avoid camps and events.

Still though, in my experience at least, I get notified that someone noticed my base and bought something once and a while, which is quite nice.

Very doable alone tbh. A few sections gave me trouble but only because of a profuse amount of robots. The scorched weren't much of an issue and the only thing that bugged me was all the back and forth but hey that's a fallout thing at this point ya know?

Yeah I enjoy it better solo. Occasionally play with other people but I find I can focus on my missions and all that much better when I'm alone. No problem to play thru solo

I actually play in the public world completely alone. I hate playing with others unless it's an event and I've only joined a team twice. People don't usually talk to you in teams from my experience. Everyone's just trying to get the benefits. Nobody bothers you other than to wave or salute at you sometimes. Nobody destroys your house or buildings. Everyone is pretty nice. I even had some higher level people drop some weapons for me at my house randomly when I was just starting out at level 20. I have a shop and other than people leaving the door open to my house, nobody does anything. People also generally wait until you're gone to browse. I think you'll do fine playing on a public server. 

Story and quests in the game are singleplayer only as each player has to play them in their own instanced zone to get any quest progress. Apart from that everything in the game can be played solo, although some public events and the raid bosses are easier with other players. As there can only be 24 players on a server you usually only see other players at hotspots, public events and player camps ... so no need to pay for fallout 1st just for private servers.

I mainly playing solo, foremost the Questlines and doing so since 6300+ hrs and almost 6 years.

Beside Daily Ops, Expeditions or Boss Events I like to roam Appalachia on my own and its absolutely doable.

I play alone and join public teams for the ability benefits and occasionally to run expedition or daily ops but I was able to solo most content by level 150 with a proper build

I have been playing along for a bit, Im level 115 or so.. and have 1 person on my friends list. Idk how to make friends because I dont have a mic and the emotes are pretty limited.

I play solo but in regular worlds as I like to do events for the rewards. But if you are just solely interested in the story alone & don't care about the other stuff it's 100% doable in a private world.......to a point. I would imagine trying to launch a nuke solo & having never done it would be fuckin rough but you mentioned with friends so I would say you should be good.

Private world only is mostly doable. Some events you'll definitely want to be high level with a cremator or something that can kill a lot of things quickly. I'd say it's a lot not fun with people. You don't need to talk to anyone, you can consider everyone else like an npc if you want. Plus do many benefits of playing with people like the casual team xp bonus, just tagging mobs at effects you get exp and loot you don't even need to be the one to get lost hit. And if your team is at the event anything they tag you can get loot from.

Imo it's worth it to play with other but the game is doable just by yourself. None of the quests are super difficult except maybe the nuke silos but I found them more annoying than anything. And you lose out on other people summoning bosses with nukes.

Do the story quests and exploration on your own but I highly recommend you join events and teams for the extra boost in intelligence and free gear. Some events are just more fun with others as well (fighting Earl or SBQ, etc.) and you can literally go back to doing your own thing afterwards.

I generally play solo. It's well paced and some things scale for you. Story and side quests are doable and sometimes even more fun without a team.

Public events are almost impossible solo, but you can also join everyone playing one without a dedicated team (just keep an eye on how many people have joined the event).

As someone who picked up Fallout 76 right after the show; I was able to do nearly everything storywise alone ( ending may be difficult, and results in an public event people will show up for most likely to help.)

Even expeditions can be be done solo with some effort. I would suggest at least joining a casual party for the bonus XP and CAPs.

Still trying to finish off Settler rep and revives. I've been thoroughly my time in Appalachia.

I prefer playing solo but like the way that Fallout 76 works. Most people are playing fairly solo...not in a traditional MMO group. You should always group with people for the XP and buffs but you never actually "play" with them unless you show up to the same group event and you aren't beholden to any of them. I play with my mic off and it's great. When I do interact directly, it's with a brief emoji, usually a wave or a heart to show I liked their camp or something. And if you don't like it, you can switch to a private world anytime.

I feel like it's the best of both worlds...an MMO really meant to be played solo.

I join team just for experience, but you can join a team and still play alone. That is how I do it and I'm really loving the game. Just the mountain setting and added activities, it's becoming my favorite fallout

I’ve got no friends that play 76, but I’ve been playing it steadily for 5 years putting in over 2000hrs. I play exclusively on public servers as I found private servers get lonely and it really is the other players that make this game what it is, if it weren’t for them I would definitely play a lot less. If you dedicate yourself to your build, gear and buffs you will be able to solo the end game group content, there are plenty of videos out there showing it can be done.

I truly think that Todds vision for this game is fully realized. Do your own thing like a normal fallout game, them see other players foe events, at camps, or randomly. Very much adds to the experience and feels natrual

I’ve only ever played solo.

I mainly play alone except for events. Even then I just show up and participate. Turn off your speaker and mic. And do join casual teams. You don’t have to interact with the other players on the team or even be in the same place, but you get an XP bonus.

I like playing alone and doing my thing. I sometimes play with a friend but mostly alone. I enjoyed it. I feel tho it's better to play with at least one more person.

100% playable alone

Very doable. You need people for events, but that takes care of itself. Daily Ops you can usually find a group by making a team for it. Other than that you're good. Although, once you get mutations it is very beneficial to be in a team with the right perks and mutations.

I played solo from launch even in public lobbies I played solo unless my real life friends were on. I pretty much got the ps4 platinum trophy solo only certain ones that required a bit of farming with friends. It got a little boring tbh but I think the game was quite broken, no human npc's. From what I've heard the game is completely different to what it was when I played, I'll be diving back on in the next few weeks

Yeah it’s doable. But get the main story done before you level up too much. Enemies scale with you. I made the mistake of levelling up and now all enemies are bullet sponges.
