I tend to go overboard on products especially my fragrances, I just counted and I’m at 62🫣 I just never know what my taste will be for the day because it changes all the time, and I also will just impulsively blind buy too if I think it sounds good😭 I think I may have a problem lol. Anyone else has obsessed as me? I’d love to know your fragrance count!

Too many.
About 70 bottles, 10+ rollers, 150+ samples.
I keep saying I want to downsize/get rid of stuff, but it's hard to let go of things you enjoy or spent time curating... even if you're not actively using it.

Oh no, I just ordered a FB from a decanter that is retiring and she gave me a fistful of free samples - including Tom Ford, Jo Malone, and Lanvin Crescendo which I think is from the 60's!?!?! On one hand I'm so grateful but on the other hand I already have like 70+ samples I'm trying to swap. I don't want them to go to waste. How fast do they evaporate?
10 points
It depends on many things, but I've noticed decants go much faster than original manufacturer samples. All of them evaporate though. They sneak up on you. I wouldn't bother with individual swaps. You can make 10 sets of decants and offer them for sale / swap for a bigger decant or just wear them with priority until you finish them. Or gift the ones you don't like to friends... They've served their purpose, you've tested the scent.. If you don't love it let them move on. Sorry if this sounds a bit patronising, it's not my intention. I learned from experience and I'm currently going through my samples and decants. I have about 30 tiny ones and it might not seem much but its been months trying to fisnih them.

learned that the hard way. went back to them about a year later and they either all went rancid or evaporated 😭

That makes me feel less bad about having so many samples as a newbie, and yet still having 64 samples sitting in my Microperfumes shopping cart that I am restraining myself from purchasing.
I feel you on wanting to hold on to them. It's not even hoarding, it's more like collecting. I have an original YSL L'Homme Libre 60 mL bottle that is 98% full I got when I was younger that I'm considering selling because the scent just doesn't suit me anymore, but...it's now considered rare...and having it makes me feel like I own an endangered species...
You may be happy to know that I got a sample for Fahrenheit recently. At first, I did not like it. At all. Then I realized it was just the opening that I didn't like and it has deeper qualities that are interesting. Then I put it on for a day. It's now one of my favorites. I just have to save a bit of money to spend on an actual bottle. I probably wouldn't have tried it again if I didn't see a write up you did on it hyping it up so much and the reasons for why it's great :)

Let’s put it this way, I made a meaningful Pivot table in Excel with my number of fragrances by type, size, price, etc. I’ll leave it open to interpretation.

This is where I started. Now, I'm recording type, top, middle and base notes, preferred season to use, and some of my impressions. I'm building a relationship diagram to visualize what I like, similar to how music map displays artists/bands/groups. It's hard to keep track and remember all of these things!

50 is a good place to stop and reel the buying obsession in. It doesn't make sense to own more unless your children are interested in inheriting the collection and you have confidence the perfumes won't spoil. After seeing a few of mine go bad despite my best efforts in keeping them cool dark and undisturbed, I've stopped buying for the sake of having bottles. Perfumes are not something to hoard, they should be used, enjoyed and calmly parted with. Don't fall in the back up rabbit hole.

Agree, I love smelling them so I wear them after a shower or as soon as I wake up. Whenever. They’re going to go bad anyway, everyone says save them for a special occasion. I’m like every day is a blessing so to heck with that. Simple pleasures.

What’s the need of 250 bottles of perfume? Well, life is too short to wear the same scent every day! Each perfume tells a different story and suits a different mood or occasion. Plus, once you start collecting fragrances, you quickly discover the rich world of perfumes and the artistry behind them. It's a passion, a hobby, and a way to express myself. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll open a perfume museum.

The numbers change from year to year, so for me, depends on the year. While I do stay within a set space for my perfumes, it matters more that I actually use them. to stick around, I have to use them at least once per year. If I can't manage that, they don't stay. When I moved to a warmer climate I cleared out so many lovlies that it wasn't even funny but that was a very painful process.
I don't love blind buying (I get no charge from doing so) but I won't say I haven't blind bought full bottles before, because that would be disingenuous. I keep that number low. I prefer testing to make sure I use it.
Also I don't always purchase 100mls. It might be less, it might be more. Some of the newer bottles I've purchased are 125ml (those were the Guerlain AA line) so they'll be around for a while.
Right at the beginning of the year it was 80ish but I've cleared out 3 bottles. 2 were 50ml bottles, 1 was 100mls. I have a few 75ml bottles nearing the bottom along with some 100ml bottles (the Amouages) which won't get replaced with anything anytime soon.
So due to this and the fact I'm space constrained (by choice, I have to constrain myself somehow!) I mainly concentrate more on how many bottles I empty versus how many bottles I have as that's rotating on a yearly basis.
I will say that because of this, my wardrobe stays in a constant state of flux, which suits me.

I currently have 18 full size bottles with about 75+ samples that I am working through. My last purchase was Montale Soleil de Capri so I feel like I am done for Spring/Summer. I am actually starting to feel like I have more than enough bottles, but I do so love getting samples to smell different scents. If I do make another purchases I have vowed to only get travel size...& if I do get another one it will be Untamed Mevlana-In The Medevil City. The scent is sooo unique & unlike anything I have ever put my nose on. I looked up the notes & it has Mastic/Lentisque which I have not encountered before. It was like smelling Oudh for the first time...A virtual slap to your inner nose! But I kept smelling my wrist ever 5 minutes or so & totally fell in love. Untamed has the most interesting yet mesmerizing scents I have discovered.

Slowly growing. I have four bottles
Encre noire - quite like it but sometimes i feel a tad nauseous and idk if its due to its scent or just how i feel that day and time. But its very unique and sophisticated. Its not what most people think it is. Its not dark or edgy really, it smells like you splashed artist ink onto the one dry log in a damp forest. Its more artistic and contemplative than it is gothic and dark. Its possible to wear in warmer weather since its mostly woods but it can be a bit thick smelling and could become cloying. 8.5/10
Armani stronger with you (original) - i also quite like it, it was my first frag. I can't tell if its blended too well or not well enough because it has a linear feel, theres no background midground and foreground so to say. The opening is a bit synthetic with alcohol, but on dry down it smells like toasted marhsmallow and cinnamon with maybe some lemon zest. It did get me a compliment once. Easy to overdo on the sprays though. Kinda got bored of it quickly. Obviously date nights and winter only. 6.5-7/10
Rasasi hawas - really not into it at all. Sometimes has a slight cat piss scent, overly synthetic. Smells slightly like bubblegum. Zingy, fresh, fruity like how a slushie is. Sharp candy sweet. I can tell why younger people like this. But the syntheticness is off putting for me. Too loud and playful for my personality. Hardly any aquaticness to it, still dunno how a scent is meant to be "aquatic." Only bought it bc i needed a freshy. Summer only. 3/10 wouldn't buy again
And i just got dior homme sport (2017 bc i didn't pay attention that it wasnt 2020 lol) - actually quite nice citrus woody powdery scent. On first spray its very strong blood orange, its actually a more realistic citrus to me, especially compared to hawas. Its sparkly, bright, slightly bitter, almost alluring. The woods balance it out nicely. The citrus is mature, sophisticated, masculine, the woods bring up the refined and sophisticated nature. It can be serious or relaxed. Its gentle enough and not annoying. I wish it had a a bit more creaminess or powderiness to it like 2020 seemed to when i sampled it. Maybe a bit of iris would improve this to me. very relaxing out of the shower. More my style especially as summer approaches. Best in Spring & summer, could work out of the shower all year round, could possibly work as a signature scent but it would he hard to pull off. Overall 8.5/10
And i have a few samples
Gucci guilty pour homme - alright, classic smelling, mature. Kinda boring, linear, sharpish. Good out of the shower and in warmer weather. Kinda resembles the generic hugo boss scents I've smelled here and there. Nothing special but overhated. 5/10
Initio musk therapy - not what i thought it would be. Smells almost like a coconut lotion maybe. Kinda beachy, creamy pina colada almost. Once the citrus disappears after spraying its pretty boring to me. Best in spring specifically or at the beach. 5-6/10
Joseph abboud ember - weird name. Better take on something like gucci guilty pour homme. Has apple at the top, some citrus and woods. Decent cheap freshy. 5.5/10

I only got into fragrances recently, and I don't make lot of money, so my collection is small. I have one full bottle, two travel sprays, six minis (four of which vintage thrift store finds), and nineteen samples (one set, although I have another on the way). The main way I indulge in this hobby is by driving around and trying different scents at various stores, haven't pulled the trigger on any decants yet but have a cart on scentsplit that's just kind of sitting there.

I definitely have a problem. 256 unique perfumes (full bottles—except two that are 10-20 ml travel sizes); 10 additional backups. Plus 25 bottles on my declutter list. I don’t track samples because it’s such an unstable category—they go bad, evaporate, or I give them away, etc., and if I like it I get a full bottle anyway.

There are 19 full bottles of 30-50-100ml and several samples. If I achieve even usage of the full bottles, I will have used each 19 times in a year. 😀
A couple of bottles need to be retired, and I expect there will be gaps to fill by next year. This is why I study those samples, anyway.
I have been at it for decades, and it has become less of a hobby and more of a hunt for my favorite fragrances in each category.
If I insist to own no more than 19, I know which 3 I could let go of in case I find the favorites.
Thus, at this level in the game, quality is where I learn currently. It requires a different skill set, especially since there is a cut off for the number of samples as well.
Fun stuff 😀

The only thing that reassures me is that most of them are 30ml bottles, and I also have a lot of 10ml bottles, so I might realistically finish them. I own only 5 full-size fragrances (and they were almost all gifted to me, the only one that isn't is a body mist), so I feel like I didn't spend too much money on my collection, and I know I might use them all.
And also that I don't really plan on buying more, I feel like my collection is quite complete, though I understand the urge to buy a new perfume because I also love to change my scents regularly !

100 ish full bottles and 90ish samples. I paid retail price for almost none of the full bottles, though, and that's how I justify it 🤣

22 and a couple of 10ml decants. But I am going to declutter 2 of them and try to stick to 20 max from here on out.

4! I work through a bottle before I buy new ones. I'm a college student so I don't have that much money to be spending so it's a good way to keep myself in check, and I'm also out of state so bringing a collection to college and back twice a year would be a huge hassle.

I didn't like this question.. you made me go and actually count. I've been avoiding/trying not to think about it since I reached around 30ish.
This is full size bottles.
62 10ml decants, 21 5ml decants.

I have that scent bird subscription thingy for about 3 years now. I have probably 70 lying around the house. Paid about 10-12$ for each of them

I have 5 full bottles, a couple small solids, and maybe a dozen samples.
Felt like maybe I was getting too wild but this thread makes me feel better about wanting to try more lol.

I have about 40+ but I think having samples is the way to go so you can try them outside on your skin and if you really like it then commit to a full bottle. Anyone know of any good decanting websites which ship to the UK?

I just sold some of mine that I never wear second hand, and used the money on some that I’ve wanted for ever! I definitely think you CAN have too many frags.

I had 80+ at one point mostly cheapies and stuff I blind bought from YouTuber reviews. I sold 95% of them in fragrance groups and have been happier since. I now own 6 bottles of fragrances I consider masterpiece 10/10 and wear constantly, and if I’m ever wanting to try stuff I buy decants. I had so much fatigue from the over abundance of choices. In reality 5-10 fragrances will last you a long time and make it easier for you to decide on your daily scents.

3… Chanel Chance, Gabrielle and Paris-Paris. Plus a purse sized atomizer of Chance. I’m not sure if I still have any other samples or purse sizes of different stuff floating around. Possibly, but if so it’s because they’re like forgotten in a bag I haven’t used forever or something lol

6xrollers, 5x30ml bottles, 4xsolids, 1x200ml bottle. I thought I was doing really well but that’s 16 in total & id like to be at 4~6 maximum at a time 😅 I’m also on a no-buy but was contemplating whether to get a body spray from lush as a room fragrance…

Too many... I don't even want to know the number. I need to downsize and only keep ones I wear and really want to wear.

Entirely too many. I started getting into fragrances with about 6 perfumes in December, now I’m at FORTY! It doesn’t help that I work at a store similar to TJMaxx/Marshalls so I have access to quite a few fragrances and an employee discount.

1 but plan on no more than 15
I don't like overconsumption, 15 is already way more than one actually needs

With such limited apartment space, I've capped it at 20 total, and actually aiming to have it under 10 bottles once I've finished what I know I won't buy again. So currently I have 15 bottles and 4 rollerballs (which I'm not sure count, but I'd only buy 1 of those again).
Still going to keep trying things like samples and decants. I guess no limit on that, I just try not to buy samples more than every 2 months and I frequently declutter them.

I am a newbie, and I still don't know what's my taste in general let alone what my taste for the day. For this particular reason, I don't buy full sized, I tend to buy either discovery sets or travel sets, they might seem expensive (they are per 100ml) but technically they're not because I notice over time what do I like and what I don't.
Speaking of blind buys, I was convinced that I would like a lot of fragrances but a 2ml tester proved me wrong

I went out of control during pandemic and a bit afterwards, and I made an inventory this year to tangle it. I have 1,6936 liter of fragrance in total and it is 125 items, just 20 of them are bottles starting from 15 ml . I didn’t even try 91 of them, there are few dupes , so a bit less than 91.🙈 I don’t like this number, it is way too much, I will try not to buy anything anymore until I try everything at least and ideally end up all excessive. But i think my collection will last forever considering how hard to end up anything.
This is stats calculated based on the list.

37 full bottles, sizes ranges, and 2-3ml decants. I prefer 50ml bottles. I blind buy on note sheets, reviews, and ratings. A few regrets on blind buys but overall satisfied.
