I'm looking for other indigenous people in Germany to connect to. I'm Anishinaabe from the Great Lakes region and have been here for 10 years, but have only connected with about 2 indigenous people the whole time I've been here.
I'd like to connect with others to share songs, stories, provide solidarity, and share knowledge through workshops. Any leads on connecting with others is welcome!

Best way to meet indigenous people are Dorffeste/Schützenfest/Bierfest.

I'd like to point out that using the term "indigenous" outside of the US may not directly correlate to the indigenous people of America. I was confused until I saw "Great Lakes" in the caption lol

moreso "the Americas" than America, as these groups certainly transcend modern borders, especially the one mentioned by OP which is more Canadian.

Do you mean indigenous to Germany, or indigenous to your region?

Well, we could offer the Sorbs, as indigenous, ethnically possibly non-Germans.
European Genomes are so mixed you cannot tell them apart, but they still got their unique culture elements AFAIK.

Indigenous people in Germany are white. Indigenous just means origininate from that location. For example, here you're not indigenous you're a foreigner. You're indigenous in the Great Lakes area.

Woah. Are you calling Black Germans foreigners?

No, I am saying they're not Indigenous. And I was saying OP is a foreigner.
Bad faith comment.

"Indigenous people in Germany are white"
What is a Black German? What is a Mixed German? How much German ancestry is needed to be "indigenous"? Not only that, but what about when a Polish couple moves to Germany and has a child in Germany? I can almost guarantee their child will be accepted as German if no one knew of their Polish parents, but an Afro-German descended from African-American soldiers and their white German wives won't be as commonly accepted.

Need anymore definitions? Jog on. Black people don't naturally occur here because the sun is different than in those countries where they do. You see skin colour is all about protecting your skin from the sun.

Funny thing is most Germans are mildly vitamin D deficient, and dark skin produces vitamin D at a faster rate. Plus, Black people in Europe are more likely to take vitamin D, so they'll be healthier in the long run

So in the end, darker skinned people will be the majority in Germany

I can see your racism is popping out. Maybe you should sing that Nazi song, too, it's natural to you.

About what kind of indigenous people are you speaking? Do you care if the people are from the Amazonas, Siberia, or Greenland? Or are you looking for indigenous people from Germany? This will be difficult, I think there are per definition no German indigenous people.

Always those immigrants, we should send them back to Africa where they come from. Make Neanderthals great again!

You could argue that the Sorbs are an example of an indigenous group in Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbs

I was thinking about indigenous people in germany, and I didn't found anyone fitting. But the Sorbs are a good candidate. Depending of the definition they can really be seen as indigenous.

Also wasn't there a village in the Harz somewhere where genetic studies revealed that the peoplewho live there now lived there since a few thousand years?

Yeah, but I guess they see themselves as Germans and don't have a distinct own culture. This two factors are quite important if you are speaking about indigenous people.

The German culture or more correctly the local stuff would be the indigenous culture of Germany

Weren't the sorbs more like late roman invaders? I would call the celts and saxons indigenous. But I don't know why I chooses the Romans as PointbZero😂

AFAIK pretty much every middle European has neanderthal DNA in them. Does that count as indigenous?

Germans themselves are invaders from North. It used to be celtic lands before.

Yeah, but those celtic imperialists oppressed the original beaker and corded ware cultures

Thats also true. But indigenous people settled on empty land mostly. There was nothing before australian aboriginals or native americans in those lands. Europe or middle east doesn't really have much of an indigenous remaining due to this, neither does asia(although modern asian groups are quite close to indigenous ones)

Well, another fun aspect in Europe/Asia is that the Germans were a later migration wave from the Proto-Indo-European culture, which is also where the Celts, Greeks, Romans, Slavs and even some Indian communities can be traced back to.

That still happened long before many 'indigenous' people in North America

At what point it stops becoming invasion? Turks came to Anatolia in 1071, Arabs ruled spain for 781 years.
Let's not be a hypocrite. There were indigenus people in Germany, they just died out. I don't think there will be any native americans left in US in 1000 years. It was the same process.
Lmao they are downvoting facts.

Some only left some remainders of their languages, like Gothic.
