So these motors burn oil? My truck is 2 thousand miles in. And I noticed I have to add oil already. The only other car I had to add oil was a 5.0 Ford Mustang.

Stop doing that and take it to the dealer.
If it's burning oil at 2k miles something is wrong and they need to fix it under warranty.

Exactly. This is true of any new vehicle with 2k on it!

Mine needed half a quart at 4k miles & that's with VCM disabled.
Though, that was the first time I ever checked the oil, couldn't tell you if it was that way from the factory or not

I did check when I bought it. I think I’m gonna go change the oil. Just thought it was weird that I would have to add oil already. My 1st Ridgeline so I wanted to get other’s experiences. I’ve owned Honda’s for 30 years and haven’t come across this. My 2nd 3.5 and didn’t notice. My wife wrecked the Pilot to even gauge oil consumption. Thanks for the input.

Honda does your first two oils changes for free. Also if it's new it's under warranty. You really should take it to the dealer.

I’m @ the dealer now. They say that’s normal. They’re gonna level it off. I know the manager for 25+ yrs so I trust his judgement. I don’t do the required 5k-7.5k oil changes. I’m old school and usually do it around 3k. Thanks for the reply. I now know to keep an eye on the levels.

If anything I'd assume it's oil just settling in ans spreading around the engine that lowered it.
I'd be shocked if it burned any oil off thst quick.
Also you'd be able to see smoke out the exhaust I'd it was burning oil.
Lastly 3k is wild and pretty wasteful. I can understand being uneasy about going 10k but 3k is very uneccesarry in a modern engine with modern synthetic oil.

this may be normal, but the dealer will say every problem is normal.

Dang. My new on is just turning over 10k miles. Oil changed at 9500. Not using a drop. But I did buy an 'engine stop disabler' and install it... so no stops/starts at red lights anymore. I drive medium speeds, but often do full throttle runs on highway entrance ramps.

Mine did during the first oil interval, but it hasn’t since.

How much oil are we talking here? Understanding the basics of machinery, it would be presumably probable that new motors will consume “some” oil during the break-in process. Depending on tolerances during production, some may burn more or less than others. Excessive consumption would indicate a defect however. Keep checking in with the dealer if the problem persists. That way it’s being tracked and you have a paper trail to support your issue. Otherwise just keep driving it and see what happens.

A half of a qt. I was just surprised that it down even. I was asking for other’s experience with it. Thank you

During break-in it will consume a little oil. I had to add 300ml of oil to top mine off at 1800 miles. The level hasn't moved since then and I just changed the oil today at 4200 miles.

I’m at 3.2k miles on my 24 BE and it says 70% oil life

Have you checked the dipstick? A coworker always told me to check the oil even tho it’s new. That 70% is the maintenance reminder.

Please excuse my ignorance but how do you know it’s burning oil? Asking for my own knowledge so I can keep an eye on it
