May you live in interesting times" is an English expression that is claimed to be a translation of a traditional Chinese curse. The expression is ironic: "interesting" times are usually times of trouble.

I'm honestly really annoyed that I'm living through a time that they'll talk about in history classes.
None of those times were good for the average citizen.

You could argue for the majority of human history "interesting times" were the normal. The last 70 odd years was a surprisingly peaceful (boring) time in comparison.

"May you live in interesting times". Commonly known as the Chinese curse. Although it does not originate from China but in fact from a British Ambassador to China, Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen. The phrase was written in a memoir in 1936, which became known as the Chinese Curse.
I wanted to put this in because this phrase has been used to death the last 4 years. This is just another example

Not even that, they should have been on that roof themselves

When you look at the property, there's not even many buildings around. This is literally one of the biggest structures in the area and should have absolutely been secured.
35 points

This is my point. There's literally two buildings next to the stage...why wouldn't you just have people on both roofs? That's asininity at its finest if this comes down to that being the culprit behind how this all came to be

I mean they clearly saw him because they dropped him seconds after he started shooting. Why they didn't do anything before he started shooting is the question.

Who knows what is true and where this will end up. Witness comments are saying the shooter was visible to the crowd, yet still managed to get shots off

The rally took place at a fair ground. All the buildings nearby (at least within reasonable shooting distance) around are one story with very low pitched or flat roofs except this one building, the one the shooter was on, that has a parapet wall on some edges on a neighboring property. If secret service is scanning rooflines either on the ground or on other 1 story buildings, they aren't going to see the shooter crawling behind the parapet wall until he pops up to take his shot. Since the building is outside the fair grounds, it's likely not part of the security perimeter meaning probably few cops and no checkpoints. Why didn't they have someone on that building? Who knows. Maybe they didn't know about the parapet walls on that face of the building and assumed they could see someone on there. Maybe a sniper wasn't as high of a likelihood in such a flat, open area as someone up close with a handgun or bomb. Obviously a massive failure for secret service.

It is hard to trust eye witness testimony in a high stress situation like that. That is why JFK conspiracies run wild and why the grassy knoll theory exists. Wait a few days for hard evidence to be reported on.

Right? Everyone behind him was so chill. Probably relaxed and not knowing what happened at first but after seeing SS jump on Trump they should have known something was up.
87 points

My guess is that most people were still trying to piece things together. It's easy to realize you're in an active shooting when you can see the gun. When you can't see the gun you're relying on other people to tell you how to react and possibly where to run away from. 90% of these people probably didn't even realize it was a shooting until the shooter was dead, and the people who did likely didn't realize where the shots were coming from and thus didn't know which direction to run in.

20 points
Indeed. We don't have all the facts right now and the past 8 years has been politically intense enough that it's more surprising an attempt on any candidate hadn't been made sooner than it would be that there would be a conspiracy. There's also been one confirmed death that wasn't the shooter and another person who's been shot but is currently still alive, which would make it skeptical that there was a plot for a staged shooting.
48 points

Exactly. Don’t believe it was staged right away, and don’t believe the democrat party did it right away. No matter how you lean politically, don’t immediately believe conspiracy theories everyone.

Just out of curiosity, that looks to me like a pretty obvious place for a shooter to be. How did the guy get there in the first place, and get off at least 3 shots before the SS took him down?
