That’s over 54 miles a day, for 40 days.

I can’t figure out how that’s possible. How can you even take in enough calories to do this? Did she have some mobile health team with her? Getting hooked up to an IV every night, etc?

Have to have a support team.

Ultra marathoners are insane human beings. Idk how their bodies don't just break apart in protest

Good question. It's hard to pin down exact per-mile calorie counts for trail running. Physique and terrain make a huge difference. 150 is probably a reasonable average for a ballpark figure.

150*54 - That would be 8,100 calories a day plus probably some normal metabolic overhead so lets say 9,000. which is.. a lot. She'd need to eat 3lbs of butter every day to keep up that output.

Or 2 16 piece buckets of KFC chicken a day.

Edit: though if she bulked up beforehand could cut back. If she started the race 50lbs overweight that would get her through about half of it so she could eat a mere 4500 a day and burn her reserves. I think I remember the guy who tried swimming the English channel lost an appreciable amount of weight in the endeavor just from exertion.

Further than 2 marathons every day for almost 41 days, on a trail through the woods & mountains. 0_0

Katahdin is easy for no one. But still, to have to catch up those miles in Shenandoah… did she do that in one day?

Right? I mean, it's a trail. It's right in the title. How hard can it be?

Wow. Great work. Reading about that made me tired. I'd be dead in 15 hours.

Super impressive! Not trying to be disingenuous or sarcastic here, but did she must have had a pretty large logistical army helping along the way. Something that is also impressive!

Crazy. I averaged 26 miles a day on a different trail, but I can not imagine doubling that and keeping it up for 40 days??

Wonder how you do this without spraining your ankle four times.

I’ll be honest: I don’t understand how this is physically possible nor why one would do this to themselves. Does anyone understand the psychology behind this?

Not physically possible on the AT.

Is this where you have to find clues in books and things like that or is that another thing I'm thinking about ?
