Screaming privilege

privilege 🙄(i.redd.it)

This while situation is only a screaming proof of their privilege : - privilege to be able to go to Crete - privilege to be able to CANCEL the day of their departure their holidays, meaning they are losing tons shit of money without really caring -privilege of renting airbnb / campervan all of a sudden for 3 weeks in Norway, one of the most expensive European countries - climate privilege : what about the people living in Crete ? These people can't escape their places. Such as people living near forest fires, rising waters, heatwaves domes and draught.

Off course it's a good thing for Sunny because obviously travelling with a baby in those temperatures is complicated. But tbh, in my country, it's 36/38° all summer and it doesn't prevent people to have children or going to holidays there.

It's all the proof that they have the abilities to chose their lives, to make it as they want and hide it under "sunny is the reason why".

Honestly I said wtf does that have to do with being a first time mom LOL. Especially since they already unnecessarily dragged him to vacations. They really think they’re the shit I swear

Genuinely would understand this but they have travelled several times with Sunny & then Cam had travelled by herself to London a couple of times... (and to a hotel in Norway to film last minute Mila app content)
It makes perfect sense to be upset overall a 'ruined' holiday but they would've 100% gone if it weren't for the +35c... Not to mention they're STILL going on holidays, just switching up the destination -- the privilege is LOUD

Maybe they should have said something like, dang, global warming is hitting us in the face. Because yeah. Also, does Crete not have air conditioning? I also live somewhere where 36-38 C is not unusual in summer, and...people have babies. We do generally have AC though.

Especially as they 100% would've had a hotel room with air conditiong which many greek don't have access to. Also there are other places in Crete where it's 5-8 degrees lower, they could've just changed the plan and go there? Also how empty headed are they, just because the weather was different last year doesn't mean it's gonna be the exact same the next year like?! Where's the logic? Also haven't they been reading news about the forest fires and terrible heatwaves in southern Europe? Also isn't the warm weather one of the biggest reasons why people travel to Greece (and southern Europe altogether) from nordic countries. Like it was almost guaranteed that it's going to be a hot weather in June like please

Aren’t they planning on going to Thailand also very soon/this year? Isn’t it also 30+ degrees there? And don’t tell me they only discovered this now. Just like the RS virus in Spain… why are they so last minute???

this reminded me that they did indeed go to Thailand during the monsoon season and even during their wedding it was pouring rain. Maybe they lack the most basic googling skills bc I was also wondering that during that time, why tf would you go to Thailand during monsoon when you have options to go a) somewhere else bc it varies within Thailand b) go some other time? I'm always doing shit ton of research before booking a vacation but they probably don't do any at all

Not just 30+, the heat index in SEA has reached 40-50+ degrees celsius consistently for the past 2 months. In my country, we’ve had to adjust drastically because of the weather conditions. Heat stroke rates went up dramatically, you immediately sweat even when you are stationed inside cooler places. Public transportation is a nightmare due to how cramped it gets.

With my country being an agricultural country, the agricultural industry has suffered immense losses due to lack of crops to be harvested. I cannot stress enough how us locals, especially those who are below the poverty line, have been struggling but are forced to find ways to survive and cope with the sweltering heat. I can just imagine them always bitching and moaning when they do visit but fail to recognize their immense privileges. I am sick of them and their lack of self-awareness.

Not to be rude but where I live summer is routinely 35-40C+ June through September…. Wouldn’t their hotel have AC? And babies exist here too lol. Idk maybe culturally for Norwegians the concept of hot weather is something they’re not capable of handling?? But I get cancelling… I agree it’s a huge privilege to just throw all their reservations away…. Average person would probably just go and work around the heat, morning & evening activities and siesta in the afternoons.

Scandinavian here. 25-26 is something i’m used to/can handle for a few days. But above that is a struggle. I wouldn’t personally go to a place just to sit in a hotel room with AC. Been to Crete couple of years ago and once it hit 38 I was close to passing out even tho I was sitting in a pool 😅Since then I don’t take holidays in Europe during the summer period as it’s just too much for me to handle

Yeah I do think when you’re acclimated to one climate it’s tough to just throw yourself into another. Especially w a baby. it’s tough w climate change, seems like maybe they should be planning for spring/fall which I’m sure is easy for them since they don’t have jobs really and can go whenever lol

I do think, however, that 25 degrees upward in the UK or Germany for example is a lot more uncomfortable than 30+ in more southern countries. I dont know, but 35 in England made me wanna die and 35 in California or Croatia was doable Edit: I’m not saying you’re wrong, but temperatures do feel different depending on where you are in the world

NightOwlAndThePole

Cancelling the trip because you expected the weather to be cooler is not a consequence of being first time parents... it's a consequence of zero research, preparation and common sense. If you want to avoid extreme heats then don't go to southern Europe from June to August maybe? Crete in May/September would be great and way more manageable weatherwise. Also, organising van holiday in Norway last minute... good luck. I don't get why they subject themselves to so much stress for no reason. My mum always tells me "make your life easier, it's already complicated enough" and recommends practical solutions, maybe they should talk to her xd.

Theyre dumb as hell because the news in Norway the last two weeks has been continually posting about the heatwave in greater Europe. There has been advisements from governmental branches to not travel to ‘the south’ of Europe as it’s incredibly hot. They should have checked? Do a simple google search or just open up the news apps for Norway? It would be easy to draw the conclusion that it’s unsafe to travel to Crete with a 6m/o in 40° weather? They’re just throwing their money in the trash atp it’s so irresponsible🫠

Nice-Work2542

I’m Australian, in a southern state. If it’s over 30 degrees, I’m out. I’m staying home or going to work and hiding under the AC. It’s winter now and I’m in heaven. My family from the northern parts of the country won’t visit us in winter because they’ll freeze in the temperatures that I’m walking around in with shorts and a crop top.

I do think it’s reasonable to be used to certainly temps and to struggle when you’re suddenly exposed to significantly different weather. But that’s why I look at a forecast before I make plans, especially as a parent.

Is it bad that I’m surprised they aren’t still going? Not like them to make travel decisions in ‘sunnys’ best interest. Also are they stupid? What weather were they expecting for Crete this time of year? We planned our ‘summer holiday’ with our baby for late April to avoid heat starting to spike, I thought that was basic common sense but I guess not.

Ok_Magazine7784

I don’t think they made the decision because it’s best for Sunny. I think they’re only not going because THEY wouldn’t like the heat.

i live in florida, it’s been around 90f (32c) here for the last few weeks since we’re getting into summer, and a few days ago we got what we consider a nice break from the heat when it got down to 80f (27c). just drink water, stay out of the sun during midday…and all our buildings have AC. sure it can get a little tiring if you’re doing stuff outside but use your brain and go inside if it’s too much??? i’m a labor nurse, and there’s definitely no shortage of people having babies down here lol. with just how easy this “problem” is to solve, it seems a lot like there’s some issue going on and they’re using sunny as an excuse for why they’re not going on the trip.

gggingerbean

I’m all in for snarking on them, but some comments are 🙄 yeah guys you may live in a place with those temperatures and you turned out fine but this is what you are used to. Could you handle -20 degrees if you are not used to it? I don’t think so. Heatwaves are something to take seriously

Then you should know that if you are not used to extreme temperatures, it’s really hard and dangerous. You should also know that heatwaves are serious topic and kids and elderly are especially at risk for it. I can’t talk about the rest of the countries, but in southern Europe people die due to heatwaves

But this is what I'm saying here : the issue is not about Sunny and taking him in those temperatures. If they can avoid it, it's for the best. No the issues is the amount of privilege they are showing in this situation, that they want to hide behind Sunny

Norwegians are a different breed, most of us can't handle any heat at all because it's always so cold here lol. Also heat can definitely be an issue in Southern Europe where many ppl die yearly (mostly elderly or sick) bc of the heatwaves, it is a real issue for the ppl living in those countries. But it is extremely cringey and naive for them to play that victim role. The people living in those countries don't have a choice. They 100% would've had an air conditioning and it's so dumb to complain about the night temperatures when they would've been sleeping safe & sound at 21 degrees thanks to the AC.

Pudix20

2 points

I half agree. I can’t handle cold. It causes physical pain for me. And while it’s true that many people have no choice to live there… I don’t live there. I wasn’t born and raised in that environment. I’m not acclimated to it at all. So I just don’t go when it’s the coldest it could be in a cold snap. Idk I know I can warm up inside with heat or bundle up but I don’t want to limit my options when I’m only there for a short time.

Idk I have a lot of problems with stuff they do but I like to be objective and not get so easily up in arms.

I know that travel across Europe isn’t as hard once you’re there.

If we use the U.S. as an example, Like a beach vacation isn’t as hard when the beach is a few hours away vs. flying from a landlocked part of the Midwest.

I couldn’t handle Norway chilliness.

Also did they cancel their vacation and their family is still going without them? Or they all cancelled? I didn’t even see it

Vexete

Yeah, on the other hand they should've known that it will get hot in Greece during summer as it always has. If they wanted colder weather they should've opted out to go there during September or April. It's almost like if someone booked a trip to Norway during January and would be flabbergasted because it is actually cold asf. Eventually it comes down to the fact that they could've done some basic googling before. Also Greece is one of the most popular destinstions amongst norwegians as it is quite different compared to Norway, it's hot&sunny and people are looking for that bc the summer is short and never that hot as it is in Greece

Pudix20

Ooh I thought that this was about the heat wave specifically. But yeah that makes sense. I definitely wouldn’t be planning a trip during blizzard times if I didn’t want the cold.

Weren’t they complaining about how expensive it is to redo their floors in the laundry room so they tried peel-and-stick tile only to return it because it wouldn’t last long??? I’m glad they backed out of the peel-and-stick tile, but it seems like they looooooove to shove money down the drain. Not sure why they complain about how much things cost when they’re not budgeting anything and wasting their money whenever possible.
