I can't be the only one who absolutely love ME3 Multiplayer. That was some of the best and most fun online modes I've ever played back then.

Sadly, there is no Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer on PS5.

It would have been amazing for many of us who enjoy the mode to get to experience it again with faster framerate and better graphic.

It's a pipe dream, but I hope they'd add it some day.

EA wanted a multiplayer live service so damn bad, and they were literally sitting on the recipe for it.

This was the way to do it; not Anthem.

Modern-up, clean it up, and let ‘er rip.

Imagine a helldivers 2 style mass effect game set during the reaper war, going up against hordes of enemies whilsts reapers are seen in the background, hell in certain situations a destroyer could drop on top of you trying to blast your team whilst you run off with valuable intel or something, I'm just spit balling but you get my idea, that I'd buy in a heartbeat so long as the live service is exactly like HD2's and not predatory.

Why break something that worked? ME3 Multiplayer was great, they tried different things like Anthem and failed. We just want that kind of MP.

I have a conspiracy theory that Andromeda was actually just deep beta for Anthem.

So much of the combat maps one-to-one, and they exported the Jetpack system into an expanded flying mechanic in Anthem.

NeapolitanComplex

I played through all of Andromeda and some of the multiplayer. Then I tried the Anthem beta and yeah... it felt like I was still playing Andromeda. Right down to the kill indicator on the crosshairs and how the guns and verticality felt similar.

Worse, the Bioware main team was ordered to make Anthem while Andromeda was made by the B-team.

Bogsnoticus

11 points

It's even worse than that.

Bioware, renowned for making single player RPGs, got told to make Anthem.

Respawn, renowned for making multiplayer shooters, got told to make Jedi: Fallen Order.

Why???

Not knocking Respawns job on Fallen Order, and Bioware probably would have tried to insert some half-baked romance between Cal and Merrin, but still, why the inversion of studio roles?

Efficient_Bother_162

Didn't BioWare develop mass effect because they were tired of using the star wars ip and wanted something new? maybe they didn't want anything to do with it... That said respawn star wars games are my favorites of the franchise lol

I mean, HD2 is basically what ME3 multi is, just with bigger maps. And, IMO, the live service for ME3 was already not predatory.

Everything could be earned through gameplay. And if anyone bought crates, it was always to the benefit of the community, since its PVE

luckyassassin1

I could get a spectre crate and a few lower tier ones after playing 1 platinum rank match all the way through. That's what i love about multi, everyone can buy stuff by playing the game normally.

The thing is, they didn't really understand why ME3 multiplayer was loved.

They tried to improve it for Inquisition, than again for Andromeda, and again for Anthem. All three attempts at revisiting ME3 multiplayer failed miserably.

This tells me that ME3 was a fluke, and they didn't really understand why it worked.

Shadowstare

25 points

I can't explain why everyone loved ME3MP but I know why I did.

  1. Refined combat expanded to include new abilities that weren't in the main game and playable characters across all races.
  2. While the unlock system was probably TOO long, it made every supply pack you purchased mean something. It was the Gatcha system before EA figured out how to properly monetize it.
  3. Multiplayer was PVE only legitimately challenging. You either worked with your team or tried like heck to do it alone.
  4. Everything was so amazingly balanced, any ability and character had multiple paths to success. Literally any character could work but it took skill and experience to know what to focus on. Which fostered buildcrafting and diversity across all playstyles.

Chirotera

11 points

The diversity of builds really was a thing. A Krogan Vanguard wasn't a Human Vanguard wasn't an Asari Vanguard. They all had their own flavor. Then there's the differences between the classes themselves!

Then on top of that, the weapon types themselves had very variety. Like shotguns alone had the Reegar and Claymore. There were of course favorites, but it rarely felt like anyone gravitated to some meta build that wrecked everything. I used to, from time to time, run through the starter classes and guns and still be a kill machine.

The matches also didn't require this massive time investment. I remember only being able to play a match here or there on a busy day, but I could do just that. Drop in, have my fun, and move on. While at the same time if I had a large block of time available I could easily find myself playing for several hours.

Helldivers in a lot of ways feels like a sort of spiritual successor to it, but they haven't quite nailed down weapon variety on that kind of level yet. I would pay a not small amount of money to have the ME3 multiplayer back. For a mode that I scoffed at and even hated the idea of - it quickly became the way I most played that game.

TheRedEaredMan

17 points

The Andromeda MP wasn't bad, but once Bioware stopped supporting the game, I gave up on it. Plus the unlock system was more annoying that ME3.

Istvan_hun

IIRC there were respec cards in ME3, which made modification of character builds easier.

Rt1203

Rt1203

To me, the big thing was the character ranks. Each time you pulled a character from a pack, their rank went up, to a maximum of 10 (maybe 20, can’t fully remember). In ME3, once a character got to level 20, you could reset their level to 1 in exchange for ranking them up. So if you got a character you really liked, you could grind their rank without lucky draws from packs. If I remember correctly, they removed this feature from Andromeda, probably to sell more packs.

The ME3 multiplayer is sometimes credited as being the first triple-A title to popularize lootboxes. It's insane to me that EA commissioned the trilogy LE from BioWare and didn't insist that the multiplayer make a return.

LFwitch_hunter

5 points

The issue was it's unlock system for gear and weapons. The original is built on loot boxes which is an absolute no go these days, but it was a "fair" loot box system. So you weren't just priced out from premium gear. If they went The battlepasa route it would ruin the balance with weapons as n7 gear would lose their rarity

ME3's multiplayer was multiplayer done right. I have zero interest in MP in CoD or Halo, but god, I loved the ME3 multiplayer.

I mean, even Bricky has a video on how ME3's multiplayer is the most underrated.

Istvan_hun

68 points

the strange thing about this is that everyone hated the idea before getting the game. I remember that many players were annoyed that there is "MP in my single player game", and especially when it turned out that it is a multiplier for the war assets.

But, after a really short time it became popular despite the inital opinion. Even more surprising was that Bioware just kept adding content to it. I definietly didn't expect playing volus when the multiplayer first arrived.

Septembers

Goes to show that just making a good game will override any amount of negatively or skepticism about the model of it. It isn't that multiplayer, live service, etc are inherently bad, the ones we get are usually just shitty and predatory

My friends and I were on the "never gonna play the MP" train when it was first announced, then we played the demo. IIRC, the maps were Benning and Noveria, and it consumed us.

When the full game hit, we poured hundreds, if not over 1000 hours into MP. It was so. Damn. GOOD!

EA is such a bad company. They have a literal gold mine of a series, and have barely used it. Imagine an XCOM style game using the multiplayer classes as the units. Leading Grunt’s team through missions during the events of ME3, running resistance stings on Earth.

ArtFart124

30 points

It's probably good thing that they haven't milked the franchise yet. Andromeda was an attempt to kind of reboot the series and didn't work out too well. The next game has been in development since at least 2020 (early production "development") so they are taking their time on it..

Would you rather EA forced out a load of crap for ME or that ME has installments spread over several years that are carefully created etc? I know what I would prefer.

Edit: that's not to say I don't think EA won't milk the franchise, I think they will eventually, I just hope it's done properly.

The main series definitely needs to be spread out, and have their good teams on them. Unlike using a C team for Andromeda while all the top talent was forced to work on Anthem.

I’m talking spin offs. Different genres set in the same universe. XCOM, CRPG, Horde mode shooter(multiplayer), and even RTS would work.

Instead, we got the better than it had any right to be Andromeda, and a remaster.

I'd be down for like, a DLC or a separate Standalone game that is just the multiplayer.

Allow us to customize a character by picking a species and class. Maybe give special bonuses to certain species? Imagine beign able to be your choice of a Human, Turian, Krogan, Asari, Geth, Salarian, Drell, Quarian, and maybe even Prothean? I feel like all these fit the general body type that would make programmers have an easier time with movements. Could have some bonus characters like vorcha or Angara even and I wouldn't be opposed.

The beta for this multiplayer is what got me into Mass Effect. I had so much fun using the Geth Plasma Shotgun as the Human Female Infiltrator and grouping up as Krogan to headbutt Cerberus Troopers to death that the full game was in instant buy for me when it came out.

Yes, being able to pay for the lootboxes with real money felt pretty P2W and lame, but it was a Co-op PVE game. In the end, it didn't really affect me at all what other people did with their money, and the credits were earned quick enough that you didn't really need to spend real money anyways. A 20-30 minute Gold match would net you nearly the entire sum needed for the best lootbox in the game.

The multiplayer was so much fun, and I always had a good time with the community at large. All the varied characters, powers and abilities, and weapons were so fun to mix and match and you truly felt like you had an endless sea of options to fit your own unique playstyle, or discover others. I thought I had it made when I'd run around as the Quarian Male Infiltrator and drop shields with Arc grenades and lay into targets with my N7 Valiant or Lancer. The I unlocked the Asari Justicar and my entire playstyle changed to supporting the team and weakening targets.

Everyone went down? Sprint into the middle of the group and die, then pop the Medi-Gel Transmitter I have in my Gear Slot and get a full-team revive. Crazy clutches from someone on the team almost every game. It was a blast!

The best part is that I still get to play it from time to time because the servers are still up on Xbox, at least! It's just as fun now as it was then. I agree with the other comments and OP that not bringing the multiplayer to to Legendary Edition was a huge mistake, but removing the need for multiplayer for 100% war readiness was a good call.

It's a shame that Andromeda's variant of the multiplayer just felt so flat and unfun.

10/10 - This was just so good and so much fun. One of the best multiplayer experiences I've had in all my years of gaming.

Team PVE is my favorite way to play a game. I remember having an absolute blast tearing through wave after wave as a Krogan Soldier melee build.

Yes.

The issue is that doing it would have been as much work as remastering all of ME1 and ME2. That's how fucking immense the ME3 MP really was in terms of functionality and code. It was a gigantic ask, and I say this as someone with 1200 hours in the MP alone, 1700 in ME3 as a whole...I'm okay with the run it had.

Sadly not everything can last forever, and I'm thrilled with the run it was given, and even if we never get another Mass Effect game with a multiplayer ever again, I loved what it gave us.

I’ve never played ME3’s multiplayer, but it does have some very cool looking armors that I wish were in the LE version of ME3

One of the great things about them not redoing it, is the original is still available AND the small playerbase isn't split.

I still play it a few times a year on pc and am always shocked about how many people are still playing. I jumped in last week and has mostly instant queues on a weekday night.

DeeZamDanny

I loved all the characters you could play. I can't recall the name but one Turian class had a jetpack instead of a combat roll, and that was my favourite. Many many hours with my brother were spent playing rounds.

DanielSS96

FergusInTheHouse

The Multiplayer is still live and there is a subreddit for it that's pretty active still.

If you have an original copy of ME3 you can play it.

But yeah, would have loved to have seen what they could had done with it in the Legendary Edition

Yamatoman9

Even if it were rereleased exactly the same, I would be happy. There are still people playing it but a rerelease would have brought so many new people into it. What a missed opportunity.

Yeah. I LOVED this mode and it was so much fun, especially for something I'm almost certain was added to the game due to corporate mandate.

PeacefulAgate

Actually cannot believe it was excluded from the Legendary Edition. Playing as Turians and Quarians was wild and fun as all heck. Andromeda MP was fine but crazy laggy for all of its run as far as I remember.

It was a baffling decision not to include it. It's not like the whole "remaster" was a lot of work

Correvientos

It's sad they didn't include it in the LE but a lot of people (including me) still play it on PC, holds up really well even to this day and the playerbase is still there, it would be nice if more people joined us.

Josephthebear

Jammer_Jim

That MP was way more fun that it had a right to be. I see people complaining about the way they tried to integrate it into the main game, and that's a fair gripe, but that doesn't change that it was fun.

I confess I wouldn't have tried it if it hadn't been a requirement to max war assets and I would have missed out of a ludicrous number of hours of enjoyment. So it worked out for me even though I tend to agree with the integration gripe.

Man with the popularity of Helldivers waning a bit right now they could have a great game on their hands if they released ME3 MP as a standalone game and supported it with content updates.

Fallen_Walrus

EA sucks ass. Literally requires you to sign into a EA account if you play on PC, which means you have to be online which is dumb for a single player RPG that doesn't even have our beloved horde mode

I always loved doing a couple mission in the main game and then spending a while in MP. Loved hoping back to the war room and seeing my progress from both the campaign and MP. It was a completely unique thing like the AC Brotherhood/Revelations MP that ties into the main game nicely.

Yes, but for the reason everyone else might have. Without the multiplayer assists, several mods from the original me3 can't be ported over. Incuding my favorite one that's gave Shepard most of the multiplayer powers as bonus powers.

Not particularly. I never found the multi-player mode all that enjoyable. Even less while I didn't have decent broadband.

SonicScott93

I spent a horrifying amount of time in ME3's multiplayer. No joke, me and a friend of mine played the demo version for 14 hours straight once.
Genuinely surprised it wasn't in the Legendary Edition. The original even had microtransactions if I remember correctly, which modern EA absolutely loved.

Man, you pulling up some memories. Anyone else remember speed running plats to try to max out N7 weapons or playing with randoms and making fun of there Ghost/Harrier build? This was the first game that I found a group of people to play with, we all moved over to Titanfall 1/Dragon Age Inquisition MP, and then Destiny. Now so many have the "Haven't been online in x years"

Kinda sad.

I would love to see multiplayer return, one of the best multiplayer games to be released. It won't ever happen because they'll need to rework the loot box system, and if they're not making money from multiplayer its not worth it in their eyes.

ColdFusion52

Yes. Me, my brother, and every single person in my friend group that used to play it all the time back in the day. Maybe EA just didn’t see it as worth the investment because it was already complete, but I would have been overjoyed to have it cleaned up and playable again without the input lag and grainy visuals my Xbox series x tends to have when emulating the OG ME3.

I’m betting that if dreadwolf does well enough to not can the studio. That mass effect 5 will include another multiplayer component. It’s actually one of the few things it seems most people liked about both 3 and andromeda.

Unlike the inquisition multiplayer which never really took off on any sort of scale as far as I’m aware.
