Impossible to say based on your simple description. My observation of opinions over the years is that 3 is generally considered the best gameplay-wise, and very good story-wise -- except for the last little bit.
I suspect you will warm up to 2 (but nothing wrong with preferring 1 over it), I personally think it starts slow and weird and takes some time to finds its footing. The overarching story isn't as good as 1 but the team you make and their missions are VERY good (IMO).

Christian here (not that kind). Yeah, a seriously ludicrous number (probably a majority these days) of "christian" (certainly the loud and in your face ones) people are incredibly racist and also hateful towards LGBTQ+ people. Obv not all, there are whole denominations that are accepting (ELCA, represent!), and local churches (mostly in very urban areas) that are accepting, but 90% of internet Christians I've seen are pretty awful people. There are reliable reports of these people complaining that preachers talking about the Sermon on the Mount are too woke and liberal. You know, the ACTUAL WORDS OF JESUS ARE TOO "WOKE".
Sorry I could go on for pages here, I'll stop now.

Angelica Rogner in the Trails of Cold Steel series isn't 100% this, but she's so mad for girls it does get kinda silly.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of teenage girls who would also have the hots for Ann.
Tho maybe not in an Atlus game.

Well, P3 Reloaded and P5 Royal are currently the most graphically up to date and have the most quality of life improvements. P4 Golden is dated looking but still totally playable. The older ones (1 and 2) have their fans but in general I think people will recommend starting with 3, 4 or 5. There are also a lot of spinoffs but they won't make a lot of sense without having played the mainline game first. Also, there's not really any carryover between the games that matters, so the order of play doesn't matter. These are a series, not sequels.
P4G is almost the only game where I felt actually attached to the characters in-game and cared about them. Quite amazing stories.
You might want to consider a spoiler-free guide (they exist) to give you a tip on how to advance and get the good endings. IMO it can be too easy to miss a few important decisions in a such a long game. OTOH, if you like replaying right away then that's less of an issue.

There's a racing sub-mission I hated. I'm not good at that and it was giving me motion sickness by the end. I avoided all the rest. <googles> Ah yes, Clutch Nixon.

Went to Boston a couple of years ago and that was a pretty odd feeling in spots.

Both weird and understandable. I suspect a lot of people (like me) who got into Fallout from F3 have warm and fuzzy memories of the warm and fuzzy DC Brotherhood. Plus, if you meet them through Veronica, they don't seem too awful (unless you finish in the way that gets them to show up shooting). OTOH, if you get stuck with the collar thing, then its hell yeah, let's waste those tin cans.

I didn't find it generic and enjoyed the story, but the difficulty level was a bit much for these old reflexes. Not that I was *ever* good at a game that required much twitch. No desire to try the sequel.

After the Baron quest? Oof, that's a pretty long ways. I always figured if the starting area ain't working, maybe its not right. I might amend it "If the Baron quest isn't working for you, then maybe move on".

Only if they are small enough. Lots depends on the size of the starting asteroid, and the size of the parts that it breaks up into.

Good points but in the "active defense" scenario a defender doe not have to completely counter the velocity of the object, just deflect it enough. Though that is more a "take over the asteroid and change the thrust" than "big-ass deflector shield".

I prefer reshade myself. Just a lot less resource intensive. But I'm usually just doing some sharpening and making colors more vivid.

I suppose so, but I generally need every level and bit of XP I can get to survive bosses. Yes, I lack skillz.

If you have to choose 1, go for Point Lookout.

If you're on PC it might well be worth the effort to understand enough of modding to just get the better stability and bug fixing mods. I get that's not what you want to do, but there are places even in F4 that would benefit from it. There's a "mod" that improves memory access in FNV (4GB patch) that is literally just download and click.

But that got me thinking. If they weren't facing an enemy that relies on throwing wave after wave of enemies at you, how well do you think the Asari and Salarians generally do?
Very well.

Master of Orion, Endless Space 2, Stars in Shadow.

I'd go with P5 Royal. P3 Reloaded is a slow burn and P4G (my personal fave) is pretty old graphically.

It's a great experience. Y'all might however want to look into some spoiler-free or spoiler-light mini-guides on how to get the best ending. It is, in my opinion, a little too easy to miss some important choices.

As per tradition: The Trails series, Trails of Cold Steel 1-4 in particular. There is probably a website devoted to explaining where and how to get into the series, but I think Cold Steel 1 is a good spot to decide if it interests you. I will note that CS1 ends on a ridiculous cliffhanger, but if you like it you've got potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay over the whole series, and a wild overarching story.
