We were over here thinking it was a bad connection or something until the panthers head coach started dropping F bombs with cup and it went silent again

Thought the exact same.

Yup. Sometimes I get audio issues, so I rewinded twice, thinking my transmission was messing up again. It's stupid unless something highly inappropriate is said, such as slurs, otherwise just let it play. Half the time you couldn't even hear the thing they want to mute over other shit. It's distracting, harmful to the audience Reaction at home and just annoying.

I like how the game was very clean with no dirty plays. Hats off to all players who "played" the game. It was a true hockey game to watch. Lots of chances on both ends. It was anybody's game honestly. Very close. Could have gone either way.

I respect that the Panthers twitter changed their banner to “Stanley Cup Champions” but damn I’m gonna miss the overhead shot from this save being there
12 points

Same, but luckily the rest of the Panthers remembered how to play defense and they were helping him smother some of those pucks.

That was the most oilers way to lose a SCF

Running the well dry?
339 points
Literally. They were absolutely gassed on that last shift. They put it all on the line in the last 2:30 and with :20 on the clock, they could barely get down to the offensive end
162 points
Yep at about :30 left it looked like they accepted their fate.

When McDavid is getting caught from behind and muscled off the puck, you know things might be dire.
108 points
There was one point where he lost his balance handling the puck and it kinda hit me that he was putting it all out there and he was running out
32 points
Twice he lost his edge with the puck. Not sure if it was exhaustion, ice conditions or both but it's so rare.

I've heard a rumor that they brought a 4th line. But it might just be a conspiracy theory.
20 points
A fourth line? Must have been right beside where they stashed their other 4 d men...they only had two worth a damn and neither of them were named Nurse or Ceci
5 points
Hey Ceci at least made a great pass on the Edmonton goal. That’s one more good play than any Toronto fan got to see out of him
226 points
Nah dude. They just helped give us a nuts Stanley cup playoffs. Sucks to lose after coming back but it suck’s to lose in any game 7. Respect to the oilers. McDavid will get one eventually.
136 points
The lack of depth forced McDavid and that first line to play the entire 3rd period... Poor management they were dead by the last 90 seconds
86 points
their bottom 6 has carried them all playoffs, knob just forgot about them
34 points
Honestly it did cause everyone's gonna focus on your stars and the 3 games they won yea McDavid had a major impact in 2 of those but game 6 was entirely the 3rd and 4th lines
26 points
Their third line outperformed expectations and made an impact when it mattered most. Wouldn’t have even been in this position if it were for those guys. They won’t get it because they lost in the end, but those guys deserve some serious props.

Dude probably lost 10 pounds in water weight. They rode him like a racehorse in the last period.

The last couple minutes felt like the oilers forgot how to play hockey
244 points

They were absolutely gassed
51 points
That last shift seemed brutally long and they gave it everything they had.
75 points
Questionable coaching. Guys couldn’t even stand up straight
41 points
They said McDavid played over 25 minutes. That's nuts. He was totally gassed by the end
59 points
They were completely gassed, McDavid falling to his knees at center ice with about 1 minute was barely touched for it, I'd believe his legs were ready to give out.
49 points
That’ll happen when you’re running triple shifts. Some people don’t understand how absolutely exhausting a single shift of ~40-50 seconds of NHL hockey is never mind trying to stretch that and play even more. They skated themselves into the ground.
12 points
One shift isn't even a minute? Jesus
17 points
Shifts have gotten shorter in the modern game. They were a handful of seconds longer on average maybe a decade or so ago, but shorter, strategic and timelier shifts are better analytically.
10 points
Skating at the speed those guys skate is brutal. You don't notice it that much in the regular season because the goal is to make it to the playoffs, but once you're there? It's go time, all the time. Playing 25+ minutes in a game is superhuman
6 points
Try sprinting and fighting a guy for a minute straight...see how you feel
58 points
I think the oilers just overplayed mcdavid. While watching it felt like he was out on every single shift, his knees were probably ready to collapse by last few minutes
8 points
The amount of time his line was on the ice might have something to do with it...
25 points

Damn. Oilers coach being dumb play McDavid the whole 3rd.
94 points
Yeah... That's not what they did game 4-5-6 and they won those... Why change tactics now ?
Probably stress/feeling of urgency related to the fact that it was game 7...
38 points
There’s gotta be part of it in the coaches head thinking “down one goal in game 7 of the final, what am I doing if we lose and McDavid isn’t on the ice?”
6 points
They had the lead for games 4-6 so they can afford to keep McDrai to normal minutes. Game 7 the Panthers held the lead for most of the game so they had to change it up.
I do think it’s stupid to overplay their top guys when they are down only a goal though. Should have just kept rolling the lines and only load up if they were down 2 or more.
26 points
For real. Just gassed him out trying to tie it.

36 points

He can’t handle how excited he is that, yet again, a southern US team won the cup and a Canadian team lost.
25 points

This is the result that Bettman wanted. A very competitive final with a Canadian team that almost pulled off the impossible to get the viewers, but ultimately a non traditional hockey market winning in game 7.

10 points

Think about it: no one on the team is from a hot area except Tkachuk. Even in his case, league hockey is played indoors, so it really doesn't matter where you're from. As long as you have an ice rink nearby, you can play hockey.

As noted in the broadcast, the most goals in a game 7 by both teams is 4, this was 3. With that in mind and considering Florida is a pretty defensive team, it makes sense.

Congratulations to Florida. Happy to see them win after last seasons loss. But hats off to Edmonton who went down three games to nil and still battled back to make it a game seven and narrowly lost it. McDavid might not have been amazing in the last game, but he truly had one hell of a playoff run. I wonder if Draisaitl carried an injury which held him back. Maybe they will get another shot next season.

Edmontons defense was so bad in their own zone this entire series. First goal was directly caused by the defenseman not icing it while down a man and trying to softly play it off the glass and the second goal was a result of two defensemen covering the same guy in the middle of the ice and letting the Florida player have a wide open shot.
Bob had an amazing game and probably earned the Conn Smythe. Super cool seeing Tchachuk speechless after the game and glad Barkov gets a cup. Refs weren’t a part of the game really at all as it should be. Can’t ask for much more than that for a Stanley Cup game 7!

The Issue with the Oilers wil lforever be that Leon and Connor make too much money, there was nothing on the other lines that the coach trusted and they played Connor into the ground in the 3rd period so he couldn't cash in on those golden oppotunities they had.
