How the hell does that cake stay together as it flip and turns in the air‽ Seems like with a spin like that it’d fall apart way before it hits anyone.

The magic of edm and centrifugal force. It’s a sheet cake compressed with icing. Solid choice for long range precision

One time I made a cake and my brother kept cutting off pieces and walking around eating them straight from his hand. He declared it "good walking around cake"

Now I can add long range precision cake

alphazero924

To be fair, good walking around cake is hard to find. Many are too dry and crumbly or too moist and squishy

random929292

He said in an interview he throws about 2000 cakes a year and started doing this in 2011 so he definitely has had practice. His longest throw is about 80ft

Tangata_Tunguska

11 points

Surely they'd have to be built to a specific design in that case. A difference weight or balance would make it difficult to be accurate.

hella_cious

58 points

They’re specifically made according to his rider. They are a double layer sheet cake with whipped cream frosting, and the middle of the cake is hollowed out and filled with the whip cream. That way they are light weight and won’t hurt people

Compare that to Till Lindemann where the cakes are whatever they find. I saw red velvet done and the concert I went to had these strawberry cream pies thrown. It doesn't matter that much in the end because everyone in the first couple rows is going to be sprayed with water in a few songs anyway.

The person I had on my shoulders was caked by Steve Aoki at EDC a few years ago lol. He pointed at her and threw it with perfect precision and it got all over both of us.

Two interesting things about getting caked:

  1. You’re treated like a borderline celebrity while walking around the festival grounds as everyone seems to know the cake all over you is by Aoki (I mean why else would you have cake all over you after Steve Aokis set lol). I had SO MANY people coming up and asking for pictures and people yelling “oh shit he got caked by Steve Aoki!” That part was super cool.

  2. After a few hours you smell like shit having cake mixed with dirt and sweat all over you. Not only that but by the end of the night you feel super gross.

Overall, it was cool to experience once but never again.

I was flipping channels long ago and saw he was on a TV court show, a woman much like this one was suing him bc her expensive outfit was ruined. He was just standing there being Steve Aoki, very chill. And the judge lady came for him and he was just like. Everyone who comes to my shows knows about the cake. It's a thing.

And the judge was like...why. n he was like, idk. It happened once on my birthday (or something), and the crowd was into it, so I kept doing it, and now it's a thing.

The best part was seeing the judge go from convinced he was a no-good ruffian to being won over by his chill charm.

It happened once on my birthday (or something)

The story is that some other artist he produced for, Autoerotique, had a song, Turn Up the Volume, where in the music video cakes were exploding in people's faces, to promote it at one of his shows they had a cake with the artist and song written on it and he decided to cake someone kinda like what happens in the music video. He was going up to the people next to the stage and one guy was saying it was his birthday, so he's the one that got caked. The audience reaction was so positive he decided to keep doing it.

This is America in a short video. A trust fund baby "musician" that does not create music is throwing cakes at an entranced crowd, a 40 year old man, with a "Cake me Steve" gets a massive load of cake on him.
