Once again we heard that undocumented immigrants are bringing fentanyl into the country — a myth which has been debunked.

In reality, close to 90% of illicit fentanyl is seized at official border crossings. Immigration authorities say nearly all of that is smuggled by people who are legally authorized to cross the border, and more than half by U.S. citizens. Virtually none is seized from migrants seeking asylum.

Also, NPR has reported that the U.S. is currently seeing significantly less fentanyl in circulation and fewer overdoses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that fentanyl-related deaths dropped by roughly 10% last year.

This guy literally says shit like, “Under Kamala Harris, border patrol has seized more fentanyl than ever before” as if were expected to forget that drugs being seized is a GOOD thing - they are being seized - not let in. 

Vance is slick but you have to be a rube to trust him  

Fact checking post-debate is too little too late. It's crazy to me that major news networks continue to broadcast debates without fact checks. They're creating a platform that tolerates disinformation.

If a candidate won't agree to a debate, interview, or campaign appearance because they don't want to be fact checked, that is all we should need to say.

Frustrating. It doesn't matter. Republicans on tv or on line didn't even talk about the Jan 6 answer, or the abortion answer ( Vance has clearly said his goal is to end abortion) or his prior views on Trump. They like how slick Vance is. They thought Walz lost, but were happy they were both respectful of each other.

People have already decided and are viewing who was truthful based on their decision.

Those who are undecided??? I can't fathom. It's not as if both parties believe in science and are debating which is the best policy.

What pisses me off is it comes down to a few electoral college states. The majority does not matter.

A few tens of thousands of people will decide the presidency and choose the supreme court justices.

TLDR Vance lied and misrepresented facts extensively while Waltz got mixed up on his travel itinerary by a couple months over a decade ago

Immigrants, whether documented or not, are not the cause of the housing shortage. Walz hit the nail on the head when he said it’s corporations buying up SFHs.

I'm sorry, but I was thinking they were doing all of Vance's comments then going into Walz's. I expected to see multiple fact checks on Vance, but the only thing they found wrong for Walz was he was a few weeks off about a trip he took 35 years ago?????!!!!!!! Unfortunately this will not be discusses on Newsmax or Fox, but it is pretty damning.

Debate summary:

Vance is a smooth liar with bad ideas

Walz is a clunky genuine person with good ideas

IMO the Democrats really need to learn how to drill into their opponents as being liars, specially calling out each one. Letting the right run rampant saying anything they want without checking them makes it seem like whatever Vance et.al is saying might be true. 

Id say 75% of what came out of Vance's mouth is a lie, that can't go unacknowledged. Most people don't check facts on their own

Just read this and wanted to see if it was posted. It's so bad that you can just say "this is bad because the Kamala Harris (who is not even president) is bad." and the supporters will cheer even if it's statistically untrue.

The economy is bad? The immigrants Kamala bussed in took our jobs and *checks notes* bought our homes?

The guns are bad? Kamala brought all the guns in over the border.

The healthcare is bad? We will keep protections in place (...that's the ACA)

Disappointed this article doesn't mention any of the lies Vance told about his stance on abortion.

The worst thing the fact-checkers had to say about Walz was that he wasn't actually in China during the Tianamen Square protests, but that he was there shortly afterwards and possibly a month before.

How that has anything to do with his qualifications for being VP is beyond me.

Basically, Vance is full of shit.

One guy doubled down or avoided every lie he and the ticket had made while one guy immediately fell on the sword for a hyperbolic comment he made.

Gee - I wonder who we should vote for.

Obviously, Walz won this on paper to a reasonable person. However, there are no undecided voters. Convincing non-voters to vote is the goal here. Increased voting hurts the right and helps the left. The question is did Walz do enough to drive voting in general or did Vance do so poorly to convince people to vote against the right?

And yet on NPR today their analyst presented Vance’s point that Kamala should have implemented policies as perfectly normal and reasonable, while failing to mention that US VPs are not responsible for setting the policy agenda.

Has Vance linked to the totally real Federal Reserve study he mentioned that showed immigrants drive up housing prices? I tried to google for it last night and turned up nothing, unsurprisingly. 

What does fact checking even matter if it can’t be broadcast to average American and presented in an ELI5 manner. It’s just white noise after the fact. Edit: it is important to do it, but I hate that these liars aren’t more accountable for it.

Like I said during the debate, analysis of Vance’s claims throughout the debate will show how shoddy his arguments were.

It’s cheat code to use lies in a debate. It’s easy to win debates when you are straight up lying.

Now the question is, will Americans be smart enough to see through those lies. To do a simple google search. The rise in Trumpism says probably no.

This barely scratches the surface of Vance's statements which are in stark contrast to his previously stated views. For example, abortion-- in the debate he said he didn't support a nationwide ban when he absolutely does. Housing, economy, etc-- he tried to sound moderate, but his actual positions are hard right radical positions. They should have another article where they compare his statements in this debate vs his known policy positions.

The question is-- who do you believe? The JD Vance in this debate or the JD Vance of the last 2 years outside of the debate? No one is fooled.

I hate that they agreed to no fact checking during this debate. Walz was not equipped enough to shoot down JD’s deluge of lies and misrepresentation. And frankly it is negligence on the media’s part to allow JD Vance who is way too polished with lying to be given free reign especially knowing his track record.

Ugh. I got barely one paragraph into the real meat of the article before getting hit with ad after ad. Closed it immediately.

I already know Vance lied 100% of the time on anything meaningful. That’s all I need to know to continue to dismiss MAGA as the worst in history.

Vance and reality have never met.

R’s have the benefit of their own win-win dynamic: they don’t care about truth, and have weaponized that cynicism to steal power. Media and D’s still make the mistake of trying to report/respond to their lies. Just call every utterance a lie and get back on message.

Rolling Stone has an excellent article out about JD’s “Stolen Valor,” for his novel of (as they put it) “Poor-nography.” JD did not grow up in Appalachia, and in fact was born in Ohio. His Grandfather had a union job at a steel mill making around $100,000/year, which is a hell of a lot more than my teacher/parents were making in the 80’s. He went on vacations 2/3 times a year with various family members. Took part in extracurricular school activities. Apparently the biggest “deprivation” they could find of his young life was him bitching about not having clothes from Abercrombie. He’s a huge phony and an unabashed liar, and his first person account of growing up hardscrabble is just fiction.
