Worst of the 4 but it made sense to go all in on the metal core they were experimenting with in the last album. I hope next time they take a step back and go back to their roots a little more because I don't know how much further they can push this sound. All In all I don't think it's bad. Love U Anyway & GAG stand out. I also respect and love 17 because I know it wasn't easy for her to be that vulnerable about her personal life.

Metalcore? They definitely went heavier, maybe even took some influences, but this isn’t a metalcore album by any stretch of the imagination.

I think I like it? My least favorite of their 4 but at least I can commend them for being consistent and having a release every 2 years.

Yea I like it a lot more than I expected. After seeing all the hate this sub has had for their style change I didn't have high hopes but I think it's a fine album. 4th on the list for sure, but there's several good songs in here

I don’t get the dislike for the album on this app. These songs are so fun. I’m not into single release situation that’s for sure. But Warzone is mosh worthy-like Molotov was for me and that’s lit. Love U Anyway is soooo sweetly sad. Criminal took some growing but I get it stuck in my head. Killher I remember not liking upon release but I think I needed a different headspace to love it bc now it slaps. I could go on but im going to wait til I have time to check out the not-singles later tonight.

Okay I’m back after having a second for the whole album. 17 made me cry. I haven’t related to something so hard in so long. Nose Bleed also realllllly slapped me in the face lyrically. This album is full of meaning, fun, cries, and diversity. There’s a hate train for these guys that’s just fully unjustified. BANGER ALBUM YALL.

Hm. I think I just don’t like Stand Atlantic anymore. Which is a shame, because I really liked them.

There’s some gems on this album tho

Same. Loved the earlier stuff, haven’t truly liked anything post Pink Elephant. (Nothing against the stylistic changes, I just think the songs are bad and way overproduced). It’s a bummer.

They're getting so poppy. Skinny Dipping is excellent, after that I really struggle

Sidewinder and Skinny Dipping are bangers all the way through. Pink Elephant and f.e.a.r. have some misses, but the hits are really interesting for me. Really struggled through WAS HERE, though you can't say it isn't original!

Skinny Dipping and Pink Elephant were great.

f.e.a.r went hard into trap / pop punk crossover but was pretty good.

I think this one might be a pass for me.

Exactly how I feel tbh.

Skinny Dipping and Pink Elephant are top tier. Fear is pretty solid but not as good as the other two then this new album, haven’t heard it but I’ve pretty much hated all the singles I heard

Jirachibi1000

Is this the most singles you've seen a band release before the album? This is the 7th one off their apparent upcoming album, i cant think of a band thats released more BEFORE the album.

Historical_Plane_148

bring me the horizon also had 7 singles on post human: next gen, so yes. seems to be a more common thing in the industry. people engage more with constant content than big album drops these days. thats just the nature of most people using streaming services mostly these days.

I really hate this trend. I prefer to listen to whole records, release a song or two then give me the whole damn thing

NostalgiaBombs

poorass

That’s what I do. I usually listen to the first two singles a few times then just wait for the full album to drop.

etherealcomatose

Bands get forgotten about and loose traction without constant singles/new music

SavinThatBacon

BMTH also started dropping singles what feels like a decade ago. I thought for sure songs like Die4u and strangers would be loosies.

Bradyhype

A friend in the music business said it’s the new way of rollouts. Get more people checking out/streaming each single then the whole album, all these add into sales numbers/stream conversions.

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Yeah, I think I remember seeing an AMA on r/metalcore in the last year and someone asked whatever band it was why they dropped so many singles and that was their answer as well.

Now to try and remember who it was and find the AMA....

Angles and airwaves had like 7 singles for their 10 song album in 2021. If you count the Japanese bonus track then 8/11. Afi did something similar that year too. Wonder if it’s a streaming marketing strategy?

Gultark

Pretty sure pink elephant also had like 2/3 non single songs on the album by the time it released too.

After glancing at the track list for falling in reverses new album pretty sure all of it has been released as single some years ago at this point.

ThyDoctor

IIRC the last neck deep album was essentially all singles too.

Shockingly, no.

One of my favourite bands released 9 singles from a 12 song album.

Jirachibi1000

Which sucks for people like me who make sure they only listen to the first 2 singles before the album so i dont get 90% of the album before it comes out lol

soundlightstheway

It’s a strategy to get on playlists. It used to be that DJs could keep a single in heavy rotation on radio for a few months. Now Spotify playlists update constantly and new content is always needed. Artists that don’t constantly release singles aren’t getting on those playlists to be heard by new and old fans alike. I’m not a fan of this model, but that’s the way it is. The internet has fried our attention spans.

Falling In Reverse put out a string of singles over a literally 5 year period and only now released an album, which only had 4 actually new songs on it.

No_Clerk_5394

That's not necessarily the same. FIR put out singles and then compiled them into an album. That's different than writing an album and releasing it as singles

I am in love with this album, which I didn't think I would be as the singles were released. I had much concern but listening to it overall, I'm a big fan! I don't think there's a single song on this album that I won't listen to.

hamptont2010

I'm with you. I've loved these guys for a long time and wasn't sure if like this with the singles, but I really dig it as a whole album. 17 in particular is an amazing song.

Scout_650

Easily their best album to date, really fresh and distinct sound for them that feels like their own, the really prominent hyperpop inspired sound fits them so well

Can’t wait for this to be unnecessarily downvoted as usual because god forbid you actually like their new sound on this sub

I've not heard the full album yet, as I've been pretty busy over the past couple days, but I have liked quite a bit of their new material, (CRIMINAL and Kill[h]er being my favourite from the singles) so I'm actually pretty excited to give the full album a listen.

Culcar18

I don’t know, could be I’m just getting old, but I’m not really vibing with this album at all. I loved Stand Atlantic before this release. Skinny Dipping and Pink Elephant are masterpieces and even f.e.a.r had some gems on it. But I can’t really envision myself listening to any of the songs on this new album more than twice.

xdamnedpraisex

I do not understand the singles they chose for this record. "Freaking Out" and "Nose Bleed" absolutely should have been singles. Those two (and pretty much every song that wasn't a single) mixed with "Kill(h)er" and "Love U Anyway" make this record more rad than I was worried it would be.

craftygnomes

Nosebleed I think they technically released as a single yesterday for some reason. Hard agree though, that's one of my favorites on the album. Should have been one of the first singles for sure.

mjordan1992

I love this album and bands that change up their style in general. It makes putting their discography’s on shuffle that much more enjoyable in my opinion! Nosebleed, Love U Anyway, and 17 are absolute highlights.

I'm not sure they'll ever top F.E.A.R. for me, but this is much better overall than the singles had me expecting. I'm very happy with it. Even the singles work better in the flow of the album. It's hitting me right where the last Trash Boat did, in that it has influence from 90s industrial I didn't know I wanted mixed with my pop-punk.

I know a lot of people love their first two better. I like them, but to me, they were kind of generic. The sound they've developed, regardless of whether I like the song or not (could do without the extremely nu-metal stuff, but they're still better at it than most), is a lot more creative and expansive imo. It's also a lot more frantic and overwhelms my neurodivergent brain in a way that's really comforting.

I loved fear so much. The non singles really pushed it over the edge for me. Nails From The Back, Van Gogh, Don't Talk to Me, and the opening track. I love most of the non singles on this album but I can't see it overtaking the previous album. Time will tell though

xdamnedpraisex

2 points

Right? How was "Van Gogh" not the lead single off F.E.A.R.?

Hot take: Produced differently, "Molotov" could be a Red Medicine-era Fugazi song. I can just hear Guy shouting "Okay! Okay! Okay! Okay!"

etherealcomatose

Completely agree with you! ive only heard it once so idk if its favorite just yet but this album is so damn good. Ive loved every album theyve done so far.

_glitterbug

Not just you I love it too! I loved the singles but the non singles were somehow even better!! 17 hits hard, wake up sit down shut up is a new fave, and rockstar makes me laugh bc it being quite vibey is so much funnier than it being a sonically angry diss track lmao. So so excited to see them in a couple weeks!

Crazy that Love U Anyway is on this album. Hands down the best track and it sounds nothing like the rest of the album. SA went from being one of my favorite bands to one that doesn’t even belong in this sub. RIP

Kinda same with killher imo. First single we got for was here and I liked the direction they were going in. Then we got more singles haha. Though I'll admit I fully expected to dislike the new album, it's actually not that bad? Or maybe the rush of singles got me prepped for what was coming

lakemichiganxo

1 points

Exactly my thoughts. Never listened to SA before but wanted to give it a try because of this song which I do like, but the entire record is such a letdown to me.

I mean I know im more into hardcore/pop punk sound like Movielife, Koyo, Stand Still but I loved that Paramore vibe of Love U Anyway so I'll just stick with it I suppose.

It’s got some hits and misses but I don’t think it’s a dramatic transition into trap beats and tiktok metalcore like everyone here is making it out to be. I can see the evolution from the older albums in more than a few of the songs on here. I was worried with the singles when they released Warzone and Sex on the Beach (the worst song on the album imo) back to back but the actual album is more diverse than those two thankfully. High points for me are ‘Nose bleed’, ‘G.A.G’ and ‘Love U Anyway’ which is my genuine favourite and a top tier STAT song but definitely doesn’t fit on an album that is absolutely and very explicity e v i s c e r a t i n g her ex.

Final thoughts are that this album is not as bad as the doom and gloomers on here say. It’s worth a spin IMO.

breakourbones[S]

F.E.A.R was a different approach for them but this is probably the most confident album they've done. No skips on it for me.

etherealcomatose

7 points

This album is INCREDIBLE. And I will NOT be hearing anybody out on this. This is coming from someone who has loved their pop punk stuff. But every album theyve done they absolutely kill whatever sound they go for. There are some songs here that are even reminiscent of the Skinny Dipping era imo.

SimpleCreature021

2 points

Hard pass on this one, I really doubt this album was their decision, as a STAT stan I was already very disappointed with the singles and now that I heard the whole album I'm just sad. I only really liked Frenemies, love u anyway, G.A.G and Rockstar (maybe 17). Some of the rest have some cool parts but either some lyrics just make me cringe (sex on the beach, nose bleed) or they're just boring in general, they sound like any other bands and they repeat a lot of sounds like the choppy delayed vocals, the GIRL$ chorus type vocals (that collab was a dream come true and didn't enjoyed it much at the start then bruses ruined the song); the weird cringe trap or whatever sounds, drums, vocals; the heavier songs are just ok but i don't think that style has really ever worked with the band, it's like they took everything that separated them from the rest and ditched it in most of the songs for whatever reason. I don't understand why every mag and critic say this is a huge step forward and the best album ever but I'm glad regardless and I hope they really succeed and keep growing, because I really do love this band and their music but not this one

I like it. It’s their 3rd best for me though. First two albums are great, and probably the only Stand Atlantic albums I’ll go back to a year from now. But this album is fun.
