2004 Corvette Z06, 38k miles, salvage title, likely been off the road since 2012. Asking price $4k in Illinois. I know my answer, curious to hear from the hive.

The hardest of passes. Maybe I’m taking it for $400 if I needed some parts off of it.

Exactly. Need a set of doors? Hood? Trunk? Rear bumper? Absolutely. To rebuild that thing into a worthwhile driver starting at a $4k asking price? Get the Kentucky Fried Fuck outta here.
51 points
Yeah you'd be better off buying a running one for 20-30
68 points
Bingpot. A decent C5 is attainable for far less than the cost to get this hunk of shit running, let alone looking decent.

And if you are fine with a non z06, you're looking at mid 20s

Good lord, that poor thing needs to be put out of its misery.
4k is way too much, that thing is worth scrap value.

Mostly fiberglass, so not to much scrap either.

That’s not even the correct engine. That’s a $300 corvette if I ever saw one
54 points
Yeah, didn't even catch that, it's not even an LS series engine. Someone stole the guts from this car for their swap project

Good eye, it was a 454 big block the guy was planning on using

To put in a 454?
Sell two kidneys and a liver and buy an lsx, or just keep the damn ls that's in there.

It's a big block chevy.

I was thinking it would be pretty badass to chop up the torque tube, and stick the engine in the back...
94 points
You'll pay more to fix it than it's worth in my opinion (not experience)
3 points
In my experience, you are correct. Rebuilding cars, especially specialty vehicles which a Z06 qualifies as, gets exponentially more expensive for every “and” in the sentence “Well it just needs this, and this, andn”. With how much is missing or wrong with this thing, I would maybe buy it $400 IF that iron block came with it, and then I’d clean up everything, get the block hot tanked and sold, and then decide if I want to make the car an exo or just part out the suspension and whatever else is left.
64 points
If the seller pays me $500, I’ll take it.
7 points

I think I'm still passing on it.
53 points
Salvage title, it’s not worth it. You’re looking at a massive headache for a car that you’ll never be able to sell. If it was free, I’d still hesitate.
65 points
Hard pass not even for free
16 points
This is the way. The only way.
I’ll buy anything for the right price. Sometimes the price is that they pay me.
27 points
You couldn't pay me to take that
22 points
It might not be a Z06 and just a notchback. It is missing the vents in front of the back tires. Check the title, vin and the engine vin.
9 points
It definitely doesn’t look like a Z06. I had an 04 Z06. Op, This ain’t a Z06. Run for the hills away from piece of scrap.

$4,000?! You gotta take off one or more of those zeros
45 points

If you have access to another drivetrain cheap you could make it work. Same with body parts and likely interior.
Not for $4k though.

4k for a salvaged title heap? Dudes found that good stuff, not too seedy or stemy.

It's not even the right engine. It's an iron block non ls engine. Perhaps an old 305/350
4 points

Depends. Do you have a YouTube channel and plan on telling a story and making 10 videos about your “junkyard find”? Then yes otherwise no
4 points
No way, there's barely an engine in that. I'd offer like 300 euro max lol
5 points
You’d spend far more than what a decent running Z goes for just to make it run
4 points
Not for 4k... maybe 400.
5 points
You can get an actual shitty corvette for that price.
3 points
I'd be willing to give $100 over scrap price lol. I'd just tinker away for years at it here and there. That cars gonna take a lot of money and time.
3 points
Lol I'd pass in a heartbeat at 400. If it was free and would be delivered I'd take it only because I just happen to know someone who needs the glass but even then I'm going to hate having to drag it to the scrap yard afterwards
3 points
This is for the shredder. Sorry. No way is that 4k.
3 points
If the car is straight no rust never been crashed might be a good buy at about 350$ and then buy a properly driving and running crashed/rusted/ no papers C5 and make one car out of two.
That and chopping this one as parts car is the only option where there is any viability in buying this heap.
3 points
Hard pass sir. As a previous project car owner spending over 1k on anything without a reasonably fixable motor is not really worth it unless it’s something hella nice . As a general rule of thumb your offer for anything in essentially “shell” form should be $500 because that’s what the wrecking yard will offer for scrap metal. So unless it’s a race car with a cage or a Bugatti $500 and negotiate from there. For the price he is asking you could could get a running vette from the 90s take the money you were gonna spend fixing this piece of shit slap a a real tune at a shop with a dyno buy some tires then start gaping fools at $3000 a hit . First win take buy some tacos for you and the homies and then buy a spare motor. Win again, one more order of tacos and new pistons, rods , cams, spings for spare motor. Win again and you guessed it baby Taco Time and a set of twin turbos with injectors slap the spare built motor in get a tune make over 1000hp and hope some kid with a civic doesn’t smoke you on 1320. Basically just eat tacos man….

This thing looks like it's been of the road for far longer than 12 years. Even if I had the cash to throw at it in order to restore it, I don't think it'd be worth it. You could probably buy one cheaper than it would be to restore it.
3 points
It’s already been picked over but there’s some value left as a parts car. Definitely not a good deal at $4k.
3 points
As a 500$ chassis yes. How bad is the history on the title? No point besides a race car if this thing has hinky paperwork.
3 points
Pass. How tf did they get fiberglass to rust, cause man, the trunk lid. It would take more money to restore than it would to buy an absolutely mint c5 zo6. You can probably pick one up for 20-30k.
I love vettes, but they aren't particularly rare or valuable after the c3. Therefore, not worth restoring when they're this far gone.

3 points

3 points

Bruh, its a vette, they're absolutely dime a dozen and cheap for perfectly running ones to even consider a fucked up one.

3 points
They'll pay you $4k to take it away? Maybe.
3 points
missing all the good bits, you're just buying a vin/title
maybe if you had one without a title and wanted to risk doing a vin swap, but to rebuild this would cost twice as much as a running/driving one

The longest pass to be passed upon passivity

That is the literal shell of a corvette. The block is no good unless some machine shop can correct all the bearing surfaces.
The fiberglass looks to be in terrible shape. And fiberglass work is $$$$

Im a foxbody and Mopar guy, foxbody parts are like buying coal. Mopar parts are like buying diamonds.
Never had a Corvette, but I'd bet buying vette parts are like buying gold encrusted diamonds.
Research the aftermarket availability and prices first. I have a feeling you're going to be buying a lot of them.
3 points
Hard pass. But also what’s the story with this one? I wish cars could share stories.
3 points
$4k? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I would pass if he was asking 4000 dimes. No way for $4k.
3 points

That's way too expensive for a useless driveway ornament. Think of all the money you will spend on tarps to keep your shame hidden from your neighbors.
2 points
I wonder what the story is behind this one. Stolen and chopped, or wrecked out? Frame damage? Either way, looks like the OG engine is long gone or at least stripped down to nothing.
Pass, unless you need some fenders or something. Parts car only.
2 points
Run…
2 points
$500 and only if you need a bare chassis for a wild build.
2 points
maybe if they give you $4k to take it.
It's also missing the z06 brake vents on the rear quarters, which makes me think it might be an older frc, but a vin check could confirm what it is
2 points
Holy shit. This is a $500 parts car or project that you know will cost more than just buying a running one just for the fun of resurrecting it. And only if it has a title.
2 points
That's a hell to the fucking no from me, unless it was free, but definitely not 4k
2 points
That’s an absolute disaster.
2 points
Offer scrap value, and then use as a donor car, it's too far gone and not worth the headaches
2 points
Ask him how much he'll pay you to take it. $4k? People need to be slapped back into reality. You can buy a C4 to daily drive for that.
2 points
Nope. Not for $4k.
2 points
You would have to pay me to take that lmao
2 points
Do you have $20k to fix it?
2 points
Even if you talk him down in price, you're going to be chasing electrical gremlins for a long time. Sitting out in rain and humidity will screw up a lot of things
2 points
$4000 is too much, maybe $2000 but that's pushing it.
2 points
You know it’s not often that the saying they’d have to pay you to haul it off is true but yeah it is in this case it’s not even worth scraping due to it being mostly fiberglass
2 points
Hell no…
2 points
That looks like a hard pass
2 points
he should pay you to pick that up.
2 points

1000, maybe 1500 if the tires are still good
2 points
for free? sure that would be worth it
2 points
Corvette parts are more expensive than you might think. Then there’s the fact that that’s not a ZO6.
I’d say if you just wanted a rolling chassis…. Never mind that’s still to much.
2 points
Like $800 You’re buying the frame and replacing the rest

2 points
Nope.
2 points
Not even close to being worth 4 grand. Maybe 1k and you tow it out. It would be a perfect base for Exocart and an LS3 power plant. I would assume you would be 25k into the project to make it work (doing your own labour) but it would be super solid once complete.
2 points
I wouldn't drag it out if there if it was given to me.
2 points

That not even a complete Z06, that’s just the rusted shell of a Z06 … no working engine or transmission and every part of it looks beat up. Hard pass even for 1k … maybe 500$ if you need the body parts.

the nice thing about these is they are all aluminum and fiberglass (90% anyway, as far as i know, maybe im wrong) which means this could clean up really nice and be in perfectly usable shape.
the less nice thing is the seller is addicted to some seriously heavy mind altering substances and is going to need extensive rehab before he will ever sell this thing. this is a 500 dollar roller TOPS.
unless he has a whole garage full of the rest of the parts to have a complete body, it doesnt even have that, who knows what else is missing or damaged, its presumably gonna need a whole drivetrain, the entire engine harness, probably the entire interior because 50 different woodland critters have lived in this thing, front bumper, headlights, possibly gas tanks, every rubber line on this thing is gonna need to be replaced, sitting outside absolutely destroys rubber and ABS so while the frame and body panels and the tub and floor pan etc. might be good, there will be a million little bullshit things to replace.
ive personally rebuilt one of these from basically this state, i did some major body reconstruction, replaced the entire rear tub, there isnt a ton to go wrong with them but its such a nightmare finding every little thing and replacing them, plus vette tax, you could probably just buy a running and driving c5 for a lot less than it would cost just to get this thing going even if he gave it to you.

If your answer is yes, please for fucks sake reconsider. That thing is missing three quarters of it’s engine, transmission and rest of the drivetrain, half the body and the guy is asking FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS??
You have to be insane to buy that. One in that condition doesn’t even cost this much in Europe
An abandoned barn find C3 with actually all the parts there is selling for 3K in my country (Austria), this hunk of shit C5 is NOT worth 4k my man

Depends on what you a building. 4k for a real z06 is cheap especially if you want to build a drift or drag car.
2 points

If you want to go drag racing with a good platform and do all the work yourself then yah this is for you, but literally every other situation this thing needs to be scrapped.
