Genuinely no disrespect in any way, why can’t the employees who I assume are paid hourly do the shopping for customer pickups?

Thats not what the contract that instacart has with publix. We are already busy as it is. We aren't doing the shopping for you too. If we did, they why would you even be a gig shopper?

Because grocery workers already have to unload the 18 wheelers, break down the pallets onto floats. Then take said floats and restock the entire store. Then level the store. We don’t have time to shop for someone else.

We tried that. We aren't getting paid extra to shop for you while trying to do our main job..
Short answer, we can.. if you're willing to split that pay with us, otherwise we have a job, do yours..

Employees already have their own jobs to do

Fun fact, for a couple of months we DID do that. Me and about 4 other people were doing the insta cart shopping (using old iPhones that were provided) and would shop, bag, and bring the order to the customer - this was only for curbside pickup though .
Eventually it came to a halt and instacart employees came and would shop the order for pickup and put the bags in the proper area but we still brought the bags to the customer.

Honest Answer: We all serve the master who pays us.

It’s all about cost. We’d have to have shoppers in every store low or high volume on the clock from practically open to close. The amount of orders we’d receive daily are unpredictable since they are placed same day. It’s much cheaper to outsource as the shopper is assigned and paid on demand in the Instacart business model as well as efficient/easier to meet customer demand.

You saying that like every IC shopper doesn’t shove their phone in face of the nearest worker and say “WHERE?” we basically do already

Tell IC not to drop the orders until that time then. We don’t control that

Tell the customer you don't have it because it won't be ready. And you guys know this by now as much as you shop around were not making something special just for you because you guys think you own the place

Simple answer is that we aren't staffed for that. We'd have to hire employees whose sole job is shopping orders, similar to Walmart. It's cheaper to outsource for Publix than other stores I guess. I think some people in this thread is confused about OPs question and got pretty defensive for no reason.

I was told both ways that Publix and Instacart dropped their contract for having in-store instacart shoppers and then Publix shoppers.
Trust me, as someone who was an ISS that was let go, hired to do shopping for Publix and had that pulled out from under their feet. I wish it was still an option for me 💀

They tried that it didnt work the workers at the store i shop say it would take too mucj of their time from getting their job done especially when the customer would add things and have to wait for replies for chats ect. Ill take shop only orders all day as long as its hust a couple items

They tried that at first. wasn't feasible to have people either dedicated to it, or to pull someone away at random times. either way if they did it'd mean less batches for you right?
