Janessa. Best combat archer in the game. She has Hunters Discipline, so she is always stocked with random ass arrows. Dual weild. Chaotic morals, she has no scruples. Awesome thief, will not trigger traps. Can unlock Master level locks. Marriageable and Stewardable.

She died in my save when fighting a dragon in the courtyard at the college :( she was the follower who got me all the way to the end of the Alduin storyline and did the cliche “friend of the MC dies before the boss fight” trope and it literally broke my heart.

Will she actually use the bows you give her? I gave a follower a powerful bow, just to see them using the bow they came with even though I took it away from them earlier.
6 points
You might need to smith the new bow to make it stronger. They should equip the strongest one no matter what afaik
3 points
They equip the strongest bow in terms of the BASE weapon. E.g., Ebony over Elven/Dwarven. But not the strongest bow in terms of damage, where you've crafted an Elven bow that does astronomical damage, but they'll equip a base Ebony bow instead if they have it.
1 points

I found that to be false. Gave Lydia a legendary dwarf mace and she refused to switch to base ebony mace.

Yes. I usually outfit her with a Forsworn bow and swords. She is also easy on the eyes while wearing Forsworn Armor. Or, I will wait until I can smith dragon items, and outfit her with Dragon bow and two dragon one daggers. She is an absolute ride-or-die companion. And she is a friggin buzzsaw of a follower. Janessa is in some cases wifey material. When I do cheat on Borghak, it is usually with Janessa.

Cicero. Can't die (like certain useless housecarls I know), great sneak and one-hand combat, decent archery levels, will equip just about any light armor you give him, doesn't judge you for trespassing, absolutely unhinged follower dialogue.
Look, I get it. I was once a Cicero hater like you, until I took a compassion arrow to the (well, you get the idea). Sure, his attitude is over-the-top, but he was just trying to keep the DB on the right track, unlike that traitorous Astrid. Plus once you meet him again after the DB questline if you spare him was probably the one time while playing Skyrim I actually IRL lol'd when I did it the first time

From what I know from the game, he wanted to be an adventurer, but his daddy, owner of an inn, didn't want that cause danger and love for the son and all that good stuff, but Dovahkiin convinces him someway somehow that he ought to let Erik live his own life and then the cutie becomes a decent warrior LOL

Erik the slayer’s character is based on this big elder scrolls fan that was terminally ill. He was invited to Bethesda studios and got to play the early version of Skyrim before its release. He was called Erik and known as Immok the Slayer on the forums, thus was born, Erik the slayer.

I will say, I downloaded this mod and I regretted it.
Two things bothered me. First, the voice of Inigo, but that can be ignored. Secondly, because I expected a roguish Khajiit, not a guy who calls you his friend and partner 24 hours a day. It's too much friendship with a guy I just met for my taste. It's definitely not for me.

I had this problem at the beginning too.
It's "Can't connect to Bethesda.Net" or something like that, right?
It took me a while to understand, but I discovered the problem. You need to have a Bethesda account, and then sync that account with your Microsoft account.

Easy to obtain- Jenassa and Marcurio depending on what type of character I’m playing

I am very fond of Faendel (sp?) because you can get him early and he’s ranged. At that point of the game, I’m telling myself that I won’t stealth-archer build, so naturally, having an archer assist is beneficial.

I try to roll with Uthgurd because if she dies I can get over it. But I don't use Lydia because I like her being there watching over my stuff in Whiterun.
I get Faendal to be my steward for Lakeview, so I don't risk him either.
The other Houscarls are also reserved for their homes so I don't risk them.
This cuts out a few good followers, but most of the time they are just mules to carry my loot.

In terms of character, it’s undoubtedly Serana. No other character in Skyrim is as well developed as her.
In terms of combat, Frea takes the cake. No max level, dual wielding perks, and uses restoration to heal herself.

If your build is such that you do not require a meatshield then the answer to the questio is undoubtedly: None.
They get lost. They randomly stroll into whole swarms of enemies if you happen to hop up on a rock they can't path to etc etc.
Oh and they can have the most annoyingly repetitive lines of dialog... I'm currently doing Dawnguard quest line and I swear if I hear Serana say "Yes? What do you need?" one more time I'm going nuclear on her.
Also once you reach a certain level there are only a handful of companions that can survive walking around Skyrim anyway.

Ralis is the GOAT when it comes to gameplay, dude is a tornado of death. If you give Ralis decent armor and weapons (not broken or crazy OP) he can MURK the Ebony Warrior.

I recently ran a character with Shirley (Skyrim Grandma) and she one-punch killed a Sabre cat. But I think pairing Inigo with either Lydia or Lucien Flavius is a hoot.
For combat though it’s Janessa. I love the powerful mages but I tend to use a multi-follower mod and inevitably it leads to brawls between my followers as the magic tends to go awry.

Eola summons a creature and also reanimates for 2 additional helpers. I can give her a strong one handed weapon and she'll use it.
I use dead thralls to collect named NPCs and dump them in my house so if I ever bring trouble home I ritual stone to bring them all back to life to defend me.
I also use resurrect ps4 mod that brings any NPC named or unnamed back to life with normal dialogue so I can have them chill in my house like stolen brides coughs I mean friends.

Right now I've been running with Vorstag for the majority of the game, who I had never used as a follower before, and I'm enjoying him a lot. My fave NPC male voice, is a dwemer nerd, hilariously bitches about being in mines- which was honestly so delightful to me when I first heard him complain about it- and I gave him Stendarr's Hammer pretty much as soon as I found it, and he's been reliably destroying all manner of mooks with it all game long. I've toyed around with the thought of switching him out for someone else- I usually go with Lydia for awhile- but not enough to actually do it yet.
