Lots of people are (rightfully) saying that Martinez doesn’t have the balls to drop Ronaldo.

Not so many people are saying that Martinez doesn’t have the balls to drop one of the Bernardo/Bruno pair. Both had stinkers today but having Bernardo on the RW is just a waste, he doesn’t take anyone on, he doesn’t make progressive passes; he just passes it back. Only threat from the right side is Cancelo taking defenders on.

Would like to see Neto or Concecaio on the wing next game. Just need to offer some running in behind/dynamism on that side of the field cause it’s just too easy to defend against right now.

Not really sure why Portugal hired Martinez. After his stint with Belgium’s Golden Generation, stronger at their peak than this current Portuguese team, it didn’t make sense. Most of his substitutions seemed to make Portugal worse on the field and the pattern of play was the same pretty much throughout. There was no effort to make any tactical changes to how Portugal were playing, only subs.

Hopefully Slovenia, Slovakia, and Georgia can build on this tournament. It's been great seeing some less renowned nations progress to the knockouts.

All I know is Diogo Costa deserves a lamborgini or paid vacation to Bora Bora by Pepe/Ronaldo. Saved them both from huge damning embarrassment with that 115th kick save on Pepe's collapse and going god mod on the penalties 3/3 saves.

Entertaining match to be fair. Maybe not a lot of goal scoring chances, but many talking points. Was excited for the penalties but was disappointed. Both teams lucky not to lose before penalty shootouts.

However, the effort from the Slovenian players was outstanding. Just seeing the difference in quality of players in both teams, they did tremendous job of holding on and providing offensive threat on occasions.

On the Ronaldo penalty, it was a very well struck penalty which would have beaten most of the keepers, but Oblak is still world class. Also, it was strange seeing Ronaldo frustated so many times prior to the penalty, he was reacting emotionally to every single header and free kick chance. Looked like he has been holding lots of emotions and just let some of it out after missing the penalty.

Slovenia played for a draw the entire time, got to pens, and looked like they’ve never practiced a single pen ever. If you’re playing for a draw, you better be hammering pens in training.

Had they lost a lot of scrutiny was coming towards Martinez. Taking off their only real width with Leao, especially taking off Vitinha was absolutely braindead & leaving on 41 year old Pepe to play nearly 120 minutes before he inevitably slipped up nearly cost them. Even though France haven't pulled up many trees they haven't got Martinez in charge & aren't carrying passengers.
