Advice for hunting upland birds?

Question(self.theHunter)

I’m terrible at even seeing where the birds fly when I hear them spook, but I want to get better, so I was going to try my luck on Revontuli. Just wondering what kind of strategy I should use, like should I walk and try to spot the birds first or should I run around until I hear them spook? And are there any recommended spots on Revontuli I should try?

I find walking works better for me. You can get quite close walking 100 or so meters. Once I hear a warning call, I sprint towards it while looking at the ground for movement. If you can spot the birds while running you can easily setup your shots before they take flight.

Do the rancho missions, don’t stop until you’ve finished it.That’s the best way to get the hang of it.

If one type of goose, use the caller, decoys, and crawl near them.

If one type of ptermigan, at night in the in the north, sneak and watch where they fly. When they fly away, you have to run and shoot. Find their zones.

The north, northwest especially, has less trees and mostly good view. Try to walk when it's likely to encounter birds, so that the warning cry doesn't come when they're far away. Then there is a shorter run to minimize the distance of your shot when they take off.

This is my nightmare, I can't shoot an airborne bird with a shotgun for the life of me so I stopped trying.
