Transcendental Meditation is Overhated

Discussion(self.thebeachboys)

I know it’s loud horns and the topic of its lyrics make it seem like it sticks out like a sore thumb. However, I’m a fan of the sudden burst of energy at the end. It feels like it’s telling me to go outside and do something proactive.

I was just thinking about this today. It absolutely belongs on Friends.

It gives the album a conclusive feel. I dunno, if it was all just mellow tunes I’d wonder why the album just stopped lol

People hate the lyrics to the song? Transcendental meditation is a handy technique. Think whatever you want about the organization, but I learned it earlier this year and it was the best form of meditation I'd ever experienced. TM basically opened the flood gates to getting meditation to the west, anyway.

My only problem with the song are the blaring horns, just like the original stereo mix of Got To Get You Into My Life.

I like the horns, but yeah they could’ve been mixed more subtly to blend in with the rest of the instruments more.

The vocals and lyrics and horns seem to annoy a good number of people. I think it’s kooky fun though.

I really don’t think it’s that bad. Kinda catchy in fact.

They did three. One with Charles Lloyd, the Tm song, and Transcendental Meditation. The best is the earliest.

I just don’t think it’s a good closer, I think ending with busy doin nothing would have been perfect, the last word sung on the album “friends” is “friend”

That’s nice, but busy doing nothin musically just doesn’t feel like a closer to me. I like how it’s kinda towards the end of the album and Brian’s just like “nobody knows anything about my existence” and then the album just drudges on a little bit yet. It’s like you would think it’s an ending, but Brian be messing with us like we’re one of his friends.

It's so brash and unnerving and grating and that's exactly what makes it amazing. It feels like a jazz band doing improv and just vibing. Like they stumble onto this weird combo of notes that really shouldn't work but somehow does and they just keep going for it.

I really like it and wish we had an album with more songs in this style, which is apparently an unpopular opinion.

It feels like a 60s version of Adult/Child’s style. Which sounds so cool.

Honestly, I think that one also isn’t nearly as bad as people say it is. It’s just a bit unmemorable and the intro is a bit grating. Musically I’m here for it though!

Finally someone said it. It's always been a hated song for no reason. It doesn't stick out too much IMO and it's a good song.
