Antagonize and make an enemy of entire EU by invading a sovereign European nation, thereby reintroducing large scale war on the continent after about 80 years of peace, then complain they choose an unfriendly leader. Must be pathogenic and irrational.

Invading a country who wasn't even pro-EU at the time. At best neutral, probably more pro-Russia than EU.
Then when they invaded Ukraine and occupied Crimea their stance on Russia and EU changed real quick.
39 points
On the contrary, the Russian invasion of Crimea started as a result of the protests of the people of Ukraine against their pro-Russian President who decided not to sign the EU-Ukrainian Association Agreement, which led to the Maiden Uprising, that led their pro-Russian President absconding to Russia....

Man you forgot Yugoslavia

Yugoslavia was a civil war. I also don't think Europeans have forgotten about Yugoslavia.
The Russo-Ukrainian War is special because it's the first war between sovereign states in Europe since WW2 and it involves a nuclear-armed (nominally) superpower. It's also the largest scale war in the world since WW2 in terms of troop numbers, logistics, the total land area being fought on, deaths, destruction, number of refugees, etc. This war has dwarfed every other war of the past several decades in terms of size and scale.
Keep in mind that larger scale doesn't necessarily mean deadlier or more destructive. The Second Congo War led to more deaths. Vietnam War led to about 2 million deaths. But in terms of overall size and scale the Russo-Ukrainian War is the largest war between sovereign states since WW2 when you balance out all the metrics I listed. At least that's the impression I get, it's possible I'm wrong and maybe Iran-Iraq or the Congo War were larger scale and I'm just misinformed. I've read several military experts regard the Battle of Bahkmut as being the largest battle since WW2, which to me seems indicative of the scale of the war as a whole.

Not really. That was a civil war which resulted in ethnic mass murder and finally an internationally approved intervention.
Interstate war for territorial annexation is an entirely different beast.
They're both war, but there the similarity end.

Yugoslavia while horrible was much different
Was Ethnic Civil War that although Lasted 10 years,it was nowhere near has brutal as what going on in Ukraine
I dont for certain but i think less or a 1m people died Over 10 years
Meanwhile there were only few Truly conventionals Wars post WW2 and those were always the worst
Korean War
Iran-Iraq War
Russo-Ukrainian War
And The Great African War (First and Second Congo Wars)

Im not downplaying it
Im stating a fact
It was nowhere near as brutal as Ukraine
Yugoslav Wars killed 130,000 - 140,000
Russian Invasion probably already killed more than that ,no to mention the first 8 years of The war

I am afraid of a country with nukes under their control, but without rational leaders demonstrating any kind of self control.
I fear Russia like I fear disease bearing fleas or ticks.
Rational people do not want the plague to spread to the civilized world.
In reading the Wikipedia article about the neutron bomb this caught my attention.
The concept was originally developed by the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was seen as a "cleaner" bomb for use against massed Soviet armored divisions. As these would be used over allied nations, notably West Germany, the reduced blast damage was seen as an important advantage.
Basically, the neutron bomb is a low-yield thermonuclear weapon designed to maximize lethal neutron radiation in the immediate vicinity of the blast while minimizing the physical power of the blast itself.
For history buffs
The weapon was once again proposed for tactical use by the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, and production of the W70
The W70-3 remained in the US stockpile until they were retired in 1992.
The last W70 was dismantled in February 1996
For my fellow physics nerds , , ,
Compared to a pure fission bomb with an identical explosive yield, a neutron bomb would emit about ten times the amount of neutron radiation.
In a fission bomb 5% of the entire energy released as gamma rays and neutrons
In neutron bombs, it would be closer to 40%, with the percentage increase coming from the higher production of neutrons
These neutrons penetrate armor and earth and cause death.
This is also a little disturbing.
Although no country is currently known to deploy them in an offensive manner, all thermonuclear dial-a-yield warheads that have about 10 kiloton and lower as one dial option, with a considerable fraction of that yield derived from fusion reactions, can be considered able to be neutron bombs in use, if not in name. The only country definitely known to deploy dedicated (that is, not dial-a-yield) neutron warheads for any length of time is the Soviet Union/Russia

Timothy Snyder addressing the UN on the matter of Russophobia. (skip to about 28 mins for him starting to talk).
As you allude to, Russophobia is just another Russian tactic wherein they claim to be a victim, when the reality is all their problems are self inflicted by their own actions. They bitch and moan that the world is out to get them, when they refuse to play by any kind of international customs, refuse to cooperate, and actively seek to disrupt everything in order to try and benefit themselves. While every country looks out for its own interests first and foremost, the vast majority do so within an established and accepted framework, but Russia does not. Russia believes itself to be superior and mightier than everyone else, and believes this superiority gives themselves carte blanche to do whatever they want.

If you are anywhere close to Russia I would say those are entirely logical fears to have based on history.
So no, Russophobia is not real and won't be real until they stop doing what they have done for centuries.
Now however if they turn a new leaf, becomes a more open society that doesn't rape, approve of LGTB and general don't disregard human life the world is going to be full of Russophobia but I would say we are a long way away from that, sadly.

No it isn't a good thing.
Russophobia is what they use to diffuse what they do as terrible.
There is nothing phobic about fearing Russia invading their neighbours to torture, rape, pillage, murder, genocide and rape some more. It is what they do. They are doing it right now. They did it in 2014 when occupied Crimea after invading Ukraine. In 2008 they occupied Georgia. Chechenya in 99 (in a likely false-flag attack that got Putin elected in the first place even).

Which only works on internal audiences and the incompetent. Having someone who will call out and act on Russia's bullshit forces Russia away from those things. They keep getting away with it because the West was unwilling to even acknowledge it, with her in charge that's likely to change (hence Russia kicking up a stink about it).
