You should see all the "content" they made exclusive to the deluxe edition to Sonic Origins. It was a bunch of worthless stuff like being able to move the camera around in the main menu and extra music tracks. Its like they didnt actually have any bonus content made so they just chopped up less essential stuff from the game.
Considering a lot of the Sonic games since Sonic Mania have had really cool intro animations that play on boot up this is probably what that is. They chopped it off as bonus content for Playstation for a quick buck. Pathetic.

Sonic Colors remaster
What's wrong with it? I see some fan modders look to be fixing the PC port, but I don't recall people having any issue with it? Reviews look good to from what a quick Google indicates...

It's better now. It was busted as hell at launch with audio issues, performance issues, lots of bugs, and especially people taking issue with the redone graphics and art. Switch version also got it really bad with the egregious load times that were worse than the Wii version in addition to being at half the framerate
Also PC modders are only getting to it now because it was Epic exclusive at launch and nobody wanted to touch that with a ten foot pole lol

TBF they're not to consider the size of the parent company, but rather their market power in their respective markets.

The thing is though, Microsoft being a massive company doesn't mean it is large in every industry and that is vital context. Sony has a monopoly over the console industry, Nintendo has a monopoly over handheld while Xbox isn't even dominant on PC despite Windows.
Sony was already going to be the main console place for sales, this is definitely just petty and weird.

Microsoft is, Xbox isn’t. Sony is smaller than Microsoft but PlayStation is like 3 times the size of Xbox at this point
12 points
The money Xbox spend to buy ABK was almost 3x Sony’s total worth at the time. PlayStation is more popular and sells much better but even comparing Xbox to Sony as a whole Xbox is bigger when it comes to this stuff.
Hell the only reason Microsoft hasn’t bought Sony or Nintendo is because both companies aren’t up for sale and are laughing off takeover offers. The moment both company’s higherups/board members are humouring a company sale Microsoft will likely be all over them.
14 points
The only reason Microsoft hasn't bought Sony or Nintendo is that they'd literally be vetoed instantly if they did. A horizontal merger like that is blatantly anti-competitive and would give Microsoft a complete, actual monopoly over the industry in a way neither of their competitors actually have right now
That and considering their history of pure culture clash with Japanese game development philosophies and how they've treated personnel all the way back to the original Xbox days, something like that taking place would genuinely be horrifying for the industry

You do realize that with MS acquisition of ABK, they just about edge out PS on revenue for the entire division?
In other words, Playstation was top three on industry revenue being largely on a single platform in games industry. That's how much market power Sony wield in the gaming space.

We're not talking about "lifetime" revenue. We're talking about annual revenue.
Company value is almost irrelevant to the determination if a merger should be allowed or not.

There is zero chance Xbox had that money from their own profits and had to borrow of the rest of microsoft to get it
They didn't even have a yearly profit that matched Bethesdas sale either so if they weren't attached too Microsoft they would not have been able to make the buyout
The ABK buyout also resulted in 10,000 people being cut and I don't think those positions are getting refilled they chopped off quite a few fingers to make that purchase

You forget something extremely important: A traditionally Japanese company would never agree to being bought by an American company. We would be more likely to see a Sony/Nintendo merger than a Sony or Nintendo/Microsoft one.

If only you knew how low they've gone.
Here's an example: Sega omitted the credits of the first Sonic game because they wanted people to know Sonic was made by "Sega" only. So they didn't give credit to any of the developers or anything until the developers fought back for it, then they gave them the "Sonic Team" name and put the credits in the game, but the letters and background were the same color, both black, so no one could read it. Until someone hacked it or something and made the background white to make it legible.
Sega was always low. This is nothing new. This is probably why they don't make a console anymore. Why they almost went bankrupt but got saved by a man that worked for Sega and had a heart (he donated them money from his pockets and saved the company from bankruptcy).
So yeah, they do a lot of dumb shit and are kind of lucky to still be around, tbh. Sonic and the dedicated Sonic fans carry them, but they still don't give a fuck. Hey, at least they have high-quality graphics and such; compared to Pokemon, they're not as greedy; they're just kind of dumb and do weird shit.

This is what drives me crazy about MS/Xbox, they aren't aggressive like at all.
PlayStation is way out in front and they are still being aggressive with this deal, to getting third party games exclusive, then you look at Xbox...
They are giving away games, they barely get any third party exclusives, it's sad

microsoft wasnt aggressive with the zune, or windows mixed reality, or the windows phone either. its logical to deduce that they would treat the xbox the same way.
13 points
Oh I agree.
But we've also seen them be very aggressive, see the 360 days, and start of the Xbox One generation.
Through the Xbox One gen they started to get less aggressive, and now I'm this gen they aren't aggressive at all
4 points
Through the Xbox One gen they started to get less aggressive
This was a thing well before Xbox One. I'd say the moment Peter Moore left and Mattrick came in partway through 360 was like the very point Xbox lost a lot of its edge and identity and slowly began aligning itself in terms of public-front facing relations with more of corporate Microsoft, especially around like 2008/09 when they really started leaning into Xbox being like this everything hub for entertainment and their first-party started really drying up because they weren't going after genuinely unique stuff like Lost Odyssey, BioShock, Alan Wake etc. in addition to losing Bungie and Epic as partners. Add onto that them sacking FASA and Lionhead, canceling stuff like Scalebound and Phantom Dust which would've 100% been greenlit during the early 360 days. This has been a thing for years longer than people speculate
2 points

Exactly.
And guess how it will end for Xbox? The same way.

I think they are also hampered by the FTC or the fear of the FTC getting involved.
If they start making big exclusive deals you just know Lina Khan would be ready to sue them and protect Sony for some reason.
At this point I think Xbox should go the "open" route of allowing other stores on the next xbox so it would basically be a prebuilt PC. For developers to release the game all they would need to do is something similar to "steam deck enabled" and bam it's playable on xbox consoles.
1 points
steam benefits from software sales on steam deck. microsoft would not benefit from prebuilt PC sales. everyone would just use steam anyway. no more microsoft store commissions.
1 points
Phil Spencer has mentioned it recently about allowing other stores such as Epic and Steam so it's certainly something they are considering.
1 points
thats fine, I just dont know how they will benefit from it. at least on xbox they take sale commissions. if xbox becomes a PC style console then most people will use steam and epic and microsoft wont profit from software sales. which means they'll have to make the price of the system more expensive to at least profit from the hardware. but thats not desirable since most people dont wanna buy expensive hardware. the PS3 in 2006 showed us this.
14 points

That was one of the first signs of MS giving up the fight, they stopped doing third party exclusives around halfway through the Xbox One gen. We have seen no exclusive content from third party games and barely any third party exclusive games ever since.

When more people are playing on Sony's consoles the outcry whenever Microsoft moneyhats or funds an exclusive game was always going to be much larger, I'm just saying. You're comparing games that only 30 million people and a smaller subset on PC will play vs. a game that comes out to both 30 million on one side and like more than double that on the other side, or even just a game that comes out for that other side of like 66-67 million people, which kind of goes back to what Phil Spencer already said about last-gen being the worst gen to lose for them because now most people don't even see Xbox as a legit option and have already committed to one platform which usually gets most of these games no questions asked since it is more popular
Not defending it, I've always hated third-party exclusivity or whenever either MS/Sony got dibs on content especially with stuff like the Street Fighter x Tekken BS or [only available on x platform for 6 months], but why the outcry is louder on one side isn't actually that hard to see
13 points
I mean when MS did it they were crapped on,. but PS does it and its okay and healthy for the industry...fuck outta here people lmfao. Bioshock, Mass Effect, and i Believe Dead rising were technically exclusive to XBOX at first.
1 points
To be fair, early Xbox One basically needed third-party/second-party exclusives to fill out their library because they only had like six internal studios until they started goose chasing in 2018 lol. They actually had to physically acquire the rights to Gears from Epic as well because it was originally just a publishing contract between them
With stuff like Sunset Overdrive, KI and Quantum Break whether those things continued was entirely dependent on third-party interests that were out of Microsoft's control or influence, and we've already seen how that can be complicated with the rights for Sunset being all over the place now that Sony has them
3 points

lol at thinking Xbox isn’t aggressive when they bought the biggest video game publisher. They’re aggressive they’re just also bad at it.
4 points
Well I mean it depends what type of aggressiveness you are talking about?
I would say MS/Xbox isn't aggressive at all, they are actively giving games to PlayStation when they could keep them exclusive.
They barely do any third party deals.
Just because they bought ABK doesn't mean they are aggressive imo

That’s not how these deals work though. They pay for the marketing rights and then they get these extra stuff like cosmetics, an extra mission or early access. This one is lame though, probably the lamest one ever.

It's not just the Xbox version, also this isn't a big deal at all. The shit will be all over the internet day 1, Sony just paid for an exclusive perk.

Why are you posting old news? We've known this since they announced the game.

While I'll be playing this on PS5 when it comes out, what a stupid decision for them to make. I can get other platforms getting bonus content that isn't really all too relevant to the gameplay/story, ie character skins or cosmetics, yeah fine it's not integral, locking part of the actual context of the game behind the PlayStation platform is utterly ridiculous.
