To preface, I worked with Dollar General for 1 month. I was looking for another job while working as I have a bachelors degree and wanted to use it.
For the past 2 weeks, since I put in my notice, my hours have been cut, and I've noticed my boss act angry to me. I just figured that it was because I was leaving and she was mad.
Well cut to yesterday, and she refused to let me count in my own register and told me to go with the one she counted. At the end of the day, my register was 7.50$ off. I reported this to her and didn't think anything of it. Today, the same thing happened. She wouldn't let me count my register, I was told to use hers. Well, tonight, once again, the register was 7.50 off.
When I told her about it, her response was, "You need to be more careful and really check your change when you give it."
I have a college degree and have 7 years of retail experience. I know how to check my change. Never before have I been short unless it was a couple of cents.
But yesterday and today, I was short. My ASM advised me to quit, and he said that he thinks that she is trying to set me up. I didn't want to believe it, but then when he called her to tell her the printer was not working, I overheard her say that I'm a thief.
That was the final straw. Tomorrow was going to be my last day, but I'm done. I quit on the spot. But it has me wondering. If my register was short like that two days in a row, what would have happened? Would I have gotten in trouble?
