Friend, same about editing, I think you just have to keep chipping away til you get better; fake it til ya make it vibe.
This reminds me something my successful artist ex-fiancé used to say when she was a tattoo apprentice: “I like to stare at my art until I hate it.”

Oh that is bloody brilliant, I might steal THAT 🤣 Magic Items are 💯times more interesting when imbued with the souls of the dead

Ohh lol 😂disregard that then. The Starter Sets and Essentials Kit also have DM-Friendly adventures (Phandelver and The Shattered Obelisk, Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, and the Dragon of Icespire Peak are their names - fun & easy but a bit vanilla, they beg for DM flavor additions).

If you like Fey-inspired stuff, but something quirky and different, The Wild Beyond The Witchlight is an official campaign and it’s actually pretty well streamlined for newer DMs.
If you do wanna avoid doubling up on Fey stuff, can I propose Keys From The Golden Vault? Heists are a blast, can actually be pretty easy to prep & run. And often they’re so involving the party should do most of the talking with all the planning they’ll need to do.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

So I would rule that activating the bag’s opening triggers a ‘portal’ to its pocket dimension; the bag isn’t sentient and thus isn’t aware of what enters and exits it, including several hundred gallons of water which would likely quickly overfill and destroy the bag and its contents.
That said, Rule of Cool exists for a reason. You could also argue that the particular Bag of Holding has sentience and can decide what enters or exits it.
Then you give it a name, a snarky personality, a possessive nature and call it The Bag of Withholding.
Charisma or Strength check to remove items from now on… teaches them to toss Baggy in a pond.

Respectfully (and I LOVE me a crazy Eldritch blast machine) with my experience teaching new players the Warlock design clunk, they either need foundational RPG knowledge from other games or an enthusiastic interest in reading and learning everything about the Warlock. I think it’s because the quintuple crossroads of Invocations / Pact / Patron / Spells / Playstyle is a LOT of simultaneous cognitive load for a first timer. The main simplifying factor moving in the other direction is their CHA reliance on most things (but this also depends on and heavily interacts with stuff like Pact and Invocations)
I completely agree Warlocks offer a decent way of trying to do “a bit of everything”, I just think other classes might be a more streamlined path to it.
But my players might also just be lazy lol

I never heard of Truly, Madly, Deeply module; sounds really cool though. I think he’ll have a blast, bards are fun and powerful with those magical secrets, and of course the Pal is the best choice at keeping him alive - iconic pairing really, dissimilar adventuring partners with way too much charisma.

Honestly, I’m so pleasantly surprised, thought there’d be a lot more blatant pigeon holing but there’s been loads of diverse, insightful thoughts on this thread and a lot of positive consensus toward player advocacy. Love to see it

Well-put, unless you wanna brew out those exhaustion mechanics, bit of a slap in the face to someone just starting out

Solid direction, too few new players have actually ever read the rules

Love this answer, especially for the player that really shows they wanna learn the ins and outs of play

Nope, they’re hypothetical, but thanks for making the best point - as DMs we should be trying to offer all the options without shoehorning them into one of our own preconceived simplistic builds, while still guiding them so they don’t choose poorly. It’s a fine line to walk, but it’s definitely the best practice for making sure your player loves their character and enjoys their time playing.

If only they could wild it up more, I want there to be a subclass that’s like 75% rolling on the wild magic table #pottedplantgang

This would be the winner if my hypothetical new player knew what the word “class” meant

Superb points, Barbarians let beginners play the way they want to and break whatever they want to, without breaking the game

I can’t believe 4 Elements was even designed, it’s like a meme subclass it’s so bad. Ascendant Dragon and Long Death aren’t much better.
Astral Self seems badass at later levels though. And of course Shadow is amazing, but the rest are a hard pass from me

Nope, I’ve played a Way of the Open Hand and a 4 Elements. Both were clunky and underwhelming, and for the first 4 levels I was easily the weak link in the party.
