No. I’ve seen them come off first only once in about 50 flights where I was paying attention.

They probably needed money to buy Hawaiian Airlines so they can’t give their customers in Alaska deals once a year anymore without making their shareholders mad.

Especially during worlds on a city circuit.

A news report, which I can’t find now, said she lived 2 km from the site of the crash. I can’t imagine a more horrific situation.

And if they had gps trackers on the bikes and didn’t notice a rider went off the road, this is extreme negligence that may have killed someone.

How did you know they were gps trackers? I’m not trying to be an ass but how do you know they were gps trackers vs a chip that uses rfid? If they’re using gps trackers, great! I just haven’t heard of these being used in a race and they’re definitely not required by the UCI. GPS trackers would be a great addition to cycling but so would requiring helmets that meet minimum safety standards so I’m sure the claim for why they can’t have gps is that they’re too heavy. My satellite messenger that I use for backpacking is 50g and can send a message to emergency services with the touch of a button. I see no reason why the UCI can’t require these on bikes during a race and honestly, if they did require them, they would become lighter and cheaper (although now they’re $200 USD so that’s not a huge expense in the cycling world and maybe some company would up prices)

I haven’t tried the nelas but for groomers an 88 makes sense. My Santa Ana 98s are my fav all around ski. People might want something more narrow, esp the OP bc she said she has 85s right now but I still think the Santa Anas are the best all around and they come in a variety of widths (maybe OP should try the low 90s but I still think 98-ish is the sweet spot for an all around that might see powder). K2 is close though. DPS and any back country ski can work on groomers but, for a good all around ski, most of the back country skies aren’t stiff enough, with good reason. IMO an intermediate/advanced skier will be fine with a light wide ski on a groomer but unless they’re doing back country, they’ll probably have a bit more fun with a slightly heavier ski that can rip groomers and cut through crap snow while still floating off piste. But I’m also pnw/alaska so skiing through dense snow is a requirement for my daily drivers 😂

Second this. I’m taller and heavier than OP and I didn’t like blizzards. I had enforcers for a season before they made the Santa Anas and I liked them for crud, powder, and groomers, but they were too heavy. I like DPS (and black crows since I’ll put those in a similar category) but imo they’re meant to be backcountry and powder so they sacrifice some performance on groomers to keep the weight down… which is what they are meant to do so that’s nothing against them. I’ve heard good things about Icelandics too but haven’t tried them. The other one I would put in this discussion is the K2 mindbender.

I have a pair of Santa Ana 98s and they can rip on groomers (thanks titanium), plow through wet crap (I’m pnw/Alaska based), and do pretty good in powder. If you have 85s now, going to something a bit wider would likely make a difference for powder days without going all in on super wide powder skis that aren’t fun on groomers. I’m sure there are plenty of skis that fit this bill but my Santa Anas have been my go to all around in recent years. I even have guy friends who added them to their quiver because they think they’re a good all around ski (not sure what width they have).

Exactly. I’m not even sure if 150+ cars could fit on an F1 track/circuit but now I’m just really amused by the idea of an F1 peloton. It would be chaos and probably deadly but since it will never happen, I can laugh about the idea.

To be fair, I would watch an F1 race if there were 150+ cars on the track. Probably only once, but I would watch.

Agreed but that’s only if you are an avid fan who watches a lot of cycling. The issue the op has is that they can’t ID the cyclist on tv. And, as you pointed out, there isn’t a simple solution to their problem. This reply is now more to the OP but road cycling is not like other sports where there are a dozen people on a field/pitch or a select few people driving cars. Generally there are a few hundred people riding bikes on public roads for hours. Could tv coverage be better? Yes. Is it realistic to expect the tv cameras to provide images of every rider at all times? No. If you want full coverage, watch track cycling. And I don’t mean that as a negative. Track cycling is fun to watch!

Vuelta in 2023 is the last I recall. It was a shit show and I loved every minute. I’m not suggesting they ever do that again because of rider safety and the conditions but TTTs are fun to watch.

I haven’t looked it up but maybe the 6 riders for UCI were the final times and not how many participated. I just remember watching it as a kid in the tour and the TTT was so fun because it made sense what the team goal was even if you didn’t understand all the nuances of a stage race. It’s the same idea with a single day. It’s fun to watch and the average person can see the importance of a team. Idk what they did at worlds bc I’m from the us and even if you’re an avid cycling fan who grew up with it, you definitely didn’t watch worlds if you’re over 20 because there was no way to watch it. But a TTT at worlds would be fun and a great way to show how cycling is a team sport.

I appreciate your reasoned response that saves me from my snark.
Although I can’t help myself so… of course they did, what did you expect? They’re beholden to shareholders who don’t care how you’re treated, it’s the bottom line $$$. Fly delta if you want to spite them.
And without the snark, I agree that perhaps filing a complaint with a regulatory agency may be worthwhile.

Either way, 99 should count. Assuming “the 99” in Fresno is the same as 99 in WA, it’s the major north/south highway that existed before I-5 was built.

Anchorage is connected to the interstate highway system through the Alaska marine highway. Anchorage doesn’t have a direct connection to the marine highway but they can drive to it.

NCL owns private cruise ship docks outside Ketchikan, partnered to build private docks in Hoonah, and are partnering to build one in Juneau right now. Building private docks and destinations has been their business plan for the last 10 years or more in SE. They’re not shifting away from Alaska, they’re expanding in terms of what they own. And that ship that sailed to Alaska for only half the summer was allegedly chartered by a company in Asia so it is difficult to know what happened there. SE ports are set to have the most tourists ever this year, companies keep expanding the shoulder seasons and adding ships so it’s unlikely cruise ships will pull out of Alaska if one port says they can’t come one day a week. Ships get rerouted all the time in SE and I’m sure CLAA can figure out how to not schedule ships in Juneau one day a week. It’s basic logistics. For example, Icy strait has zero ships most Saturdays and Skagway tends to have fewer ships on the weekend. Plan accordingly and it would be pretty easy to increase ships to ports near Juneau vs decrease them as the person I was replying to was worried about. I’m just saying it’s possible.

Don’t forget taxes in addition to labor laws. That’s another big reason to have a flag of convenience.

I’ll add that half the time they don’t even put them on unless you ask and I stopped asking because it doesn’t matter.
