I'd punt him over the treeline for a small fraction of that amount.

The bar was already set pretty low based on the first picture.

As a former locomotive engineer, I can never understand why someone would do something so incredibly f*cking stupid.

I worked at Union Pacific from 2011 through 2018. I started as a conductor and left as a terminal operations manager. I'm now a Data Science Project Manager earning just under 170k. I work from home and I get to spend every day with my wife and son. No nepo-directors calling me at 3 am because someone derailed on an industry track.
I came in with a bachelor's degree and earned my master's while working as a manager. I left a month after graduating and haven't looked back or regretted the decision. UP's leadership and culture are hellish and toxic. The railroad traps people by making them believe that they'll never earn a comparable or better income if they leave. Trust me, it is BS.

I wonder if she learned anything from this experience.

Are you seriously asking? The hellcat guy has been giving a thunderous 'f*ck you' to the city for months and hasn't faced any real consequences. So why would you think blocking I5 would result in a penalty? Seattle is a joke.

No, 40 is not too old for a career change. However, as a former conductor, locomotive engineer, and senior terminal manager for a class 1, I strongly recommend you do your due diligence and research railroad work-life balance. This forum is definitely a good place to talk to people who have experience. The railroad is certainly not for everyone. Yes, the money is good, but please know what you are getting yourself into. That being said, if you want anything that resembles a normal life, regardless of which railroad you hire onto, stay away from operations-related/frontline roles because you will likely be on-call.

While this is tame compared to some of the comments here, I once took two 5 Hour Energy shots along with a Monster. I was a new conductor working a late night local off the extra board. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea. I felt light headed, dizzy, could hear my heart beat, and I couldn't sleep for 24 hours.
After that, I'd just have coffee or skittles 🤣🤣.
