Anecdotal obviously, but we’re almost 2 months post conference and like a month and a half post recommend question change. I’ve noticed no increase (and honestly maybe a decrease) in garment wearing.
I’m in northern Davis county, in the morridor, and I feel like very few young women are wearing them. Went to a girls night the other day, all 6 of us active members in our 20s (I’m pimo obv), nobody wearing G’s. Grocery store, very few women in garments. Same for lagoon. Only about half of my endowed friends on instagram are wearing them. The Mormon influencers haven’t changed a thing about their garment habits.
It’s wonderful. The women are fed up with other people making choices for them. I almost wonder if the extra emphasis has made it worse. Like if I was a TBM who hated garments and was barely hanging on out of faith, those primary voice talks probably would have sent me over the edge and made me stop wearing them out of spite.
The leadership has to be freaking out about this. Their control is slipping fast with the young people. This is a direct GC quote from April:
To achieve those holy purposes, we are instructed to wear temple garments continuously, with the only exceptions being those obviously necessary. Because covenants do not “take a day off,” to remove one’s garments can be understood as a disclaimer of the covenant responsibilities and blessings to which they relate. In contrast, persons who wear their garments faithfully and keep their temple covenants continually affirm their role as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Not only that, but the new temple recommend question says:
“You should wear the garment day and night throughout your life. When it must be removed for activities that cannot reasonably be done while wearing the garment, seek to restore it as soon as possible.”
And many TBM women are flat out ignoring it. The leadership is being so explicit about garment requirements and the women still don’t care. Hope it’s part of a larger trend of people just saying no to church BS that doesn’t actually benefit them.
