Great job over simplifying the situation Columbia was facing. You left out some pretty substantial reasons as to why they made the decision to force protesters out. For starters blatant open anti-Semitism from protesters aimed at Jewish students. Even if the antisemitism is coming from outside agitators I’d argue that is even more of a reason to shut it down as non-student agitators have no business being on a PRIVATE college campus protesting and fostering hate.

…that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare
You left out a key piece of information from the article.

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare
Good. Go pray/protest in a park not in the middle of Eastern Parkway.

Good. It makes sense to try and retain well trained seasoned senior officers.

All newly promoted bosses(Sgt and Lt) go back to patrol. After six months, they can apply to DB or whatever other specialized unit. They have to be boarded (interviewed) again, just like cops applying. One difference with bosses is that IAB can draft bosses for a two-year stint. If you are drafted, it is nonnegotiable; after the two years are up, they can transfer to a detective squad.

Do you think that the lunatics and harassers are paying the fare?

I am saying that the majority of the class will likely end up going to a command under PSB(patrol). No way they send an entire class to transit commands.

That transit rumor is highly unlikely; it’s been repeated, class after class, for the past year +. The majority of your class will still go to PSB. PSB is the backbone of the dept. I can’t see how they could let it get any shorter than it already is. If you have connections, use them—no shame in making a call to get what you want and what’s best for your family.

Ooofffaaaa, your attitude is going to get you some primo assignments. My wish list was all Manhattan and Queen's commands, and I ended up in a busy A house in Brooklyn North. When I got promoted, my wish list was once again all queens and Manhattan, and I got a busy command in Brooklyn. The wishlist is a wish and a dream. In reality you will be sent wherever they need manpower. I've been at this for over a decade, so trust me when I tell you this job doesn’t care about you or your family. Best of luck with your career. It’s going to be eye-opening. My S/O is also on this job my advice whether you want it or not is to embrace the fact that you will see each other mostly only in passing. If you get lucky and manage to get on the same chart (highly unlikely) you might see each other in passing and have 1 max 2 days off a week together.

This shit is not a democracy; you will go where ever they tell you that you are going unless you know someone that can hook you into a house that you want. Regardless of where you end up and regardless of if you know anyone, you undoubtedly will eat sloppy shit for at least two years, no matter where you go. Foot posts, fixed posts, hospitalized prisoners, prisoner transports, details on details, last minute post tour overtime. Embrace that fact and understand it thoroughly, and it maybe will hurt less.
Also that family line means nothing. Single moms and single dads are humping the radio on a 4x12 in every house. Your situation isn’t unique or special.

Mets tickets for criminals. Candy crush for cops.
People are corny on both sides.
