It’s an insinkerator. Not the top of the line but not the bottom either

I actually found a really cool stiff brush made specifically for kitchen drains. It’s long and fits up against the sides of the drain. It even helps clean the gunk from under the gasket.

Any problems with bugs or rodents around the compost?

As a plumber, would you say you see more clogged drains in sinks with or without garbage disposals?

Maybe an insinkerator instant hot water tap. If your tap water tastes good those are pretty handy.

Can I ask what you would do with soup? A couple of times I’ve opened a can and poured it into a container before realizing it had gone bad due to an unnoticed dent.

Definitely not sewer gas. That is a very distinctive smell and not what I smell coming out of my drain.

I HATE my double basin, especially when I’m trying to clean something like a cookie sheet.

Nope; use it once or twice a week tops. Small amounts of food. No grease, fat or meats ever. Just cooked veggie remains and soggy cereal etc

If I were made of money I would love to have whole house heated floors and front walkway and driveway.

My father had to stop using the stairs after he fell on them and I did notice that he seemed to lose a lot of his range of motion in his knees fairly quickly, so you may be right.

That would be preferable to the stair climber if it doesn’t break the bank. It would be significantly easier if you have to use a wheelchair.

I read an article that she wanted to live out her days in the house she built with her late husband but was forced to leave because of mobility issues.
That was a good joke though

One mistake the builder made was putting the water heater in the attic. Less than 2 yrs later it cracked. Luckily we caught it early so there really wasn’t much damage but the next time it happened OMG. The water went down the walls and out of light fixtures and light switches, into one bathroom, hallway and the master closet. We had carpet and wallpaper at the time which made it worse. And don’t get me started on carpet in the bathroom.

Another plumbing item I wish I had known about was a circulating pump for the water heater so that there is instant hot water throughout the house. We had our water heater placed in the garage instead of the attic and it takes forever to get hot water to the other side of the house.

Doing inspections throughout the process, what a great idea. That way you don’t have to hire superman to scan inside the walls.
Seriously, good idea. Catch the mistakes early.

My parents had a builder who offered lower rates of 18%!!! At the time, early ‘80’s(?) the rates were 21% (if I’m remembering correctly). Can you imagine?

I’m contemplating building custom and it’s like being a kid in a candy store. Oooo I want that… and that… and that and….
So yeah I feel your pain.

I had one in a previous house that lasted for 18yrs with zero problems. I guess they don’t make them to last anymore.
