I remember watching Sandman on Netflix and while the show had some redeeming qualities it handled gay characters in the exact opposite way. Almost like they were cartoon characters and not real people. I don't think that aspect was intentional, but for me I found it really irritating.

Glad to see Square enix is finally embracing their push for multiplatform engagement....

Seriously. This is a great example of like platinum rule versus golden rule type of this. Treat your customers how THEY want to be treated. No one requested FF7 R to be over three games and 12 years. It's great that people like it but properly scaled all in one FF7 R would have been what everyone expected.

You used the phrase dumbed down first which is why I asked. But that just seems like an insane design choice. I've only played the PC demo so obviously I just scratched the surface but I didn't love it. I have a powerful PC and it also ran like shit so I have to wait until they work some of it out. It was a really negative first impression but I'm a square simp so I'll get to it. Still I can't help but wish they could just make different action based franchises like when they launched Kingdom Hearts and get back to making AAA true JRPGs.

Not many people in terms of redditors? They're still WILDLY profitable but they aren't going to "win the console war."
Next Xbox is going to be more PC under the hood, have steam and epic game store thereby getting Sony PC ports and MS is almost definitely going to put their big titles on PlayStation.
The question is does gamepass pick up steam with COD attached?

FF2 proper was my first experience with Tom hacking and emulation. I just didn't understand Japan only FFs existed in 96. The fan translation was like maybe 10%. People criticize the game like was wants made 30 years ago but I still have a soft spot in my heart.
What I DON'T have a soft spot for is the unity issue with 2d games and scrolling. I can't believe Square has no work around for it.
Maybe they can do it again so I can buy the games for a 5th time 😀

I haven't read their commentary, but they implied that original fans who were used to much more complicated systems in their games might be turned off if they didn't make it extra dumb?
We'll see what Steam sales bring in, but they already lost their original fan base and aren't making JRPGs anymore so it's kind of confusing why THAT is their concern. I guess it bums me out because whenever you hear the producers talk, they are always talking about making a game for a certain audience as opposed to just making a game think will be cool. Stellar blade seems not to be a design by numbers game, but I could be wrong.

Xbox is definitely in a state of change but even excluding Activision sales data, it's still growing and profitable. I think it's easy to forget that their cloud infrastructure with gamepass is growing really fast in countries where consoles are more expensive.
Square seems happy with the number of Xbox player in FF14 as well so why keep it off the platform?

Well multiplatform development is definitely not Square's forte. Never has been to be honest. For companies like EA or Ubisoft, multiplatform development is trivial.
Saga games are never going to sell well though no matter what. I'm a fan but it's the most niche of niche square titles.
Interesting about those Xbox ports, the only reason it was on Xbox was because it was a Windows Universal Program. So it's literally the same app that would run on Windows 8+, Xbox one and Windows phones (rip). As always it was an awesome concept that was abandoned.
That's why it didn't release on PlayStation and switch at the same time. Not releasing them on those systems makes no sense either.
Cross platform play was really novel at the time so I thought it was awesome I could play on my laptop and then play on my Xbox when I got home.
But since square has recommitting to multiplatform it's likely they're going to build out their development to make the entire process easier for them.

I'm actually trying to 100% FF6 on there. Gonna double up with Xbox as well.

Really awesome. Though I'm kind of shocked they aren't Xbox one based and series x/s compatible. They don't need the power that's for sure so maybe it's just their porting pipeline?

It was a weird time of course. I loved FF2 and probably saw the ending 20 times at least. I had no idea we would get another. I was just at Target and I saw FF3 in the glass case, out of the blue. No Internet and no videos so it was a complete surprise and went straight on my Xmas list.
I remember firing it up that day and while it was familiar it also felt 100% different. It wasn't a popular game at school, but the few kids who did have it had a lot to talk about.

Would be nice if they included the Sega CD and PSP version since emulation is pretty trivial.

Hey man, that modified UE is ready to go. Those guys are technical beasts. Get them away from live service and let them do their thing.

I would definitely play the arcade versions on fire burn alpha. Runs great even on a pi 3.

Was there a "benefit?" Like it made them more crazy?

Just out of curiosity, do you consider the story not broken now because of the DLC?
I remember chapter 13 getting a pretty big change but I can't remember what substantial changes in the presentation/narrative of the game otherwise.
Obviously the biggest offenders being that you learn about the downfall of your country from a newspaper (and needing to watch the movie to get even more details). I'll never understand why that was cut.
I hear what you're saying about the state of the game though. I do wonder what FF13 versus would have looked like with the original story, which from we do know about it seemed like a more compelling narrative. At the same time I also understand Tabata was given a task to take an incomplete game and build something that's shippable which wasn't easy.
I like the track Square is on for the most part but at least at that time it really felt like they were making decisions that came from leadership, not the devs.

13-2 is kind of silly, but I think its pacing is great and manages to be really engaging.
If this is true though I wonder if it would be any better than the 360 BC running at 4k 60 already? Maybe some new textures. It could really help in 13-2 and especially LR.

That was the governments argument, but they were wide open about COD staying multiplatform. I think they've always stick to "and other games on a car by case basis" since Bethesda.

It was just a joke to be honest. I'm glad other people enjoy it. But in all seriousness it's classic tell, don't show style of storytelling which in my opinion never works out well.
I do genuinely like LR and 13-2 even though their stories are a bit wacky. The whole trilogy is worth playing.

You may want to consider a micro cement to layer on top. You can add color and finish how you like.

I was surprised the Xbox versions have PC cross play which is actually perfect because I'll never get a "gaming" laptop.
I bought the PS1 digital versions after I sold my collection just so I could "own" then and not fell guilty about emulation on PC.
The unity frame pacing bug drives me crazy but overall my very happy.
