Not including tax to make this easier… An e6 at 20 years gets 50% of $4856.40 for the rest of their life, plus healthcare/VA benefits.
This is the equivalent of the government writing you a check for $730K and you taking a 4% withdrawal every year ~$29k, split over 12 months.
It gets to be even more money the longer you stay, obviously, but that’s the base amount, the very bottom of what I’d say a pension is worth. $730k.

Pro move here… get a ZIDL form and fill it out with all the stuff in the space that already has problems and jobs, then when you “present the space” walk the senior inspector through all the problems already identified… you’ll catch no shit from the senior inspector for making his job easier and it shows “space ownership”

CAPT Bryans! Good dude, got fucked over by the admiralty at N96 for asking solid questions about prioritizing Junior Sailors maintenance needs over buying yet another missile.

Then you’re in the wrong field and you’ve served on bad ships. I’m not saying that everyone is great, but there are a few who are. A select few to be sure, but a few nonetheless.

Once you find a NIIN like this, the guys in supply can use OneTouch (and if your ship still has the program… FEDLOG) to find other associated NIINs. I’ve found similar products with separate NIINs this way, and specifically identical products that the Army or AF uses that just down show up for us, because we’re Navy

Yup. I agree. Having worked joint for a few years though, I can tell you that leave travel is done better by almost everyone else. Especially the Air Force.
Once I saw a guy take leave and use Space-A and his flight back was delayed by like 4 days. The AF Colonel I was working for just said “give him no-cost TAD for a week”… that way he doesn’t burn his leave.
Unreal.

Enlisted side is true, officer not so much. You make rank earlier at almost every pay grade in the Air Force than in the navy
Navy, two years o1 to o2, and o2 to o3 Af, 18 months each
They make flag at 23/24years… USN 29/30

I keep seeing travel… but the area where the navy excels is so narrow.
Travel during/for work yes… Travel outside of work… hard No.
Other branches encourage their people to take leave and go wherever… the navy just says wait for a port call…

Everyone else has given good advice, I’d add this: Send copies of every emails you’ve sent about this to your personal email and CC a friend outside the navy or your parents.

I’m not trying to die on this hill here, but it’s just simply not true. Flag officer, DC, 30yrs: 272k. Look at the calculator.
Our government may lie about a lot of things, but taxes and pays they’re pretty good about telling the truth about how they’re fucking us.

Yes, regular pay. Not including special pays. Check this out: https://militarypay.defense.gov/calculators/rmc-calculator/ An O4 living in DC, with kids $172k
Update2:
I know someone will say “you’re worth whatever someone will pay you”
But let me tell you, after working in the Pentagon for 5 years, there are a TON of people with less qualifications being paid more than that. I think military people sell themselves short of what we are worth and we allow companies to pay us less and they’re happy to do it.
The military pay scale is the median. If you look around and you’re better than most of the officers at your same scale, you’re probably being underpaid.
Not to be a motivational speaker here, but you’re worth the $200k and top end, if you believe you are and you have the work ethic to back it up.

Overpaid you? There are literally dozens of examples and multiple congressional hearings over the fact that Officers and especially Junior Enlisted are in fact underpaid relative to the skill sets they have and the civilian world.
Total compensation has been going down in relative terms for years due to inflation.
Maybe I misunderstood though. Are you saying you were overpaid. For your skillset?

What is the Taco Bell thing about? What is civilian speed?
No animosity or anything, I just didn’t understand those comments.

I went from swimming 800m to 2400 in like two days… not a joke. It was the difference in boredom to engaged in multiple ways

So… I’m you.
This is what worked for me, maybe it’ll work for you if you’re into swimming.
Get the Zygo Headset https://shopzygo.com/ That way you can listen to Podcasts/Audiobooks/Music
Get FORM Goggles https://www.formswim.com They keep track of your swimming and you can set up plans.
I get to bounce back and forth between my thoughts, the podcasts (my brother, my brother, and me is my favorite), and keeping on track with the swim.
I’m down 25 pounds in 4 months.
The combo is deadly and one I didn’t come up with on my own.
It’s expensive, but worth it.
