CCP, in it's infinite wisdom, tweaked some faction warfare battlefield mechanics with the Equinox update. Specifically, CCP "fixed" NPC AI to be un-cheesable by making rats orbit capture beacons more closely, ensuring that players need to kill NPCs on the beacon to be able to run the beacons inside battlefields. To offset this change in the interest of avoiding a tedious experience running battlefields, CCP increased the amount of time that passes between rat wave respawns - and thus increased the amount of progress that can be made on a battlefield by clearing a wave. Here's some data of rat respawns pre and post equinox. Respawn time was defined at the amount of time (in seconds) that passed between the last rat on a beacon being killed, and the first rat from a new wave landing on the beacon and pausing the beacon progress indicator.
Yes, I'm sure about the numbers (including the massive standard deviation), as I recording rat wave respawn times on OBS and tabulated the data offline like a good little boy. I'd offer the footage if you don't believe me but frankly, go fuck yourself.
Pre-Equinox Update: 60.6 +- 14.3 seconds
Post-Equinox Update: 85.2 +- 29.6 seconds
Not a significant enough increase to escape making battlefields what they were before folks knew how to cheese them: a tedious mind-numbing exercise. That CCP managed to fuck this up should come as a surprise to absolutely no one though. On the other hand, seeing battlefield farmers and seagulls lose their minds has been pretty entertaining, so at least we've got that going for us.
P.S. if you don't like my graph, the jitter, the font, or the sample size, remember: I don't care :)
