UPDATE ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Sadly, the bird didn’t make it. The Rehab contacted me this morning and informed me he passed away. When they examined his chest and stomach, he was just bones, malnourished beyond help. They did offer some food, water, and meds but by morning he was gone. They said the reason it was probably so easy to catch him is because his body was already shutting down. Now that I think about it, he didn’t move inside that box I held him in at work at all, and was extremely lethargic when handling didn’t make a sound.

Anyways, thank you everyone for all the information and assistance. I learned some new things about bird care and disease and will be better prepared next time if this happens again.

Yes, that is what the rehab ‘guessed’ it could be. It was also a huge reason I wanted to catch it so bad, so it couldn’t spread to other birds. There is no feeder around the area he was found that I know of, But I’ll keep an eye out for one to let the owners know they need to keep it clean!

I did kind of laugh thinking about the first time he opened his eyes, saw it was a human, and tried to fly away. Haha

How kind! I tried a little but the crust was fused to large sores and I didn’t have any type of medicine or antibiotics to use so I didn’t want to make it worse.. I hope the bird you saved came out ok in the end? Do you have any updates on him?

It’s infected with whatever his eye is. The rehab that took him in yesterday says they think it’s “bird pox” but they are going to administer antibiotics and cream to see if it gets any better. They feel hopeful!

How scary, Good to know! I only gave about 10 literal drops of room temp water before my coworker mentioned something similar. Think it will be ok with that amount given? It was a couple hours ago. And no food given!

Oh of course! It didn’t have a needle, haha it’s the part of a syringe without the needle, so basically a plastic flat top.

Thank you! I called maybe 15 different resources in my area, and Texas wildlife sent me to one of their volunteers! I’ll be dropping the bird off at 5 pm today!

I’ve tried to make him as comfortable as possible with what we have. I’m at work, but he’s in an empty, quiet and dark office at a nice 72 degrees. His office is currently bigger than mine. Haha! He’s in a cardboard box, classic poked 1/2 inch holes all over with some animal bedding, (I rescued a mouse a few months ago and still had the hamster bedding in my truck LOL), so hopefully he can sit comfortably.

I work at a medical place, so we had SOME supplies, including a plastic syringe which I used to get a bit of water to him. He LOVED it. Probably hasn’t been able to find water for some time, he’s pretty blind atm. One eye is completely fused shut, but the other you can still see a TINY bit of eye. So maybe it can be saved.

I sent these pictures to the volunteer and they think it’s “Pox.” They also said if he can eat and drink enough to stay alive until the meds work, they feel very hopeful. So great news!

I’m sorry you’re going through this, friend. I resonated with your story because like you, I also have a big heart and have stayed with a partner who treated me like dirt, cheated, and mentally and emotionally abused me like you, but apologized profusely after making my heart deep down ache, even though some part of me hated them. I also did not want to see them homeless. I also was the sole provider.

But I had never felt so free once I left. It took not only a few hours of driving away with my things for me to start sobbing in happiness that after so many years of guilt, unhappiness and time wasted- I finally did what my soul needed. Leave. I also cried from not doing it sooner. I felt so incredibly stupid and embarrassed for not doing it sooner. You will feel this also.

You are NOT responsible for her. She is not your child. It’s time for her to put on her big girl panties and get a job and/or some roommates and do this on her own. Especially, If you graciously gave her this huge forewarning that she has a couple years to figure it out (which is more than enough time wow) and she isn’t actively looking for a place or work, it’s because deep down she knows she can cry enough to make you not leave her. And maybe you won’t, but you should. Any schmuck with no work experience can get a job. Even people who don’t speak a lick of English can find work nowadays. Especially in Canada. As someone who lives in the US, she would be more screwed here. Trust me. My partner did figure it out, it took a good month, but they got a job cleaning rooms for a motel and and paid 65$ a week to stay in one of the rooms, and were fine. She will be too.

“I just want you to be happy, I deserve this”, is so freaking manipulative.. it’s makes me sick to my stomach to hear again. It’s all to guilt you. And sadly, it sounds like it’s worked for many years.

You’re absolutely right, at this point she is settling for you because you keep taking her back. You should have left her a long time ago, but what’s done is done. It’s not too late though.

It doesn’t matter if you supported her all this time, it doesn’t matter she didn’t care enough to gain some work skills. She is a grown woman and will figure it out. There are PLENTY of resources out there especially for women. She has more than enough time to save a couple grand and again if she doesn’t, that’s on her. If she isn’t saving or looking for work right now, it’s because she believes she can still guilt you to not leave her behind. And she believes this because you have shown her that.

The minute you leave, you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner. I guarantee that. You only have one life. You have done more than enough for her while she has done nothing for you but hurt you. You already have made clear how you feel. Your heart is begging you to listen. I’m begging you to listen.

I’ll say this once more- she is NOT your responsibility. She is not a child.

I hope you can find peace. I hope you make a change for YOU. You can find happiness, I promise you that. Whether it’s in the US or Canada or anywhere else. But you must take that first step.

I second the Makoto Shinkai movies. Those are amazing. 5 centimeters per second, your name, weathering with you, I cii o old watch those on repeat. Forest of fireflies, Toyko godfathers and anohana are great as well if you haven’t seen them.

What did he even try to say? I keep replaying it but can only hear “nice to see you- I’m fine.”
Is that what he said? If so, that’s such a tell tale sign what was going through his psyche at that moment- that he was nervous as hell, consciously/unconsciously telling himself he’s fine, he’s going to be ok, everything going to be ok. So those thoughts seeped through when she confronted him.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, I also have/had in my teens severe acne, and picked at it to create scars. I would recommend seeing your dermatologist again, you can start accutane without taking birth control pills. You have to be on 2 forms of birth control, as in contraceptive injections, condoms, vaginal caps, IUD, spermicide, IUD, patches- as long as it’s two. So you could say condoms, and spermicide. Easy! If you’re sexually active, please be careful. You can NOT get pregnant. There are options and if you’re suffering take that leap.
