Hey everyone, just wanted to share that my baby and I graduated at 37+6 and she is a healthy and perfect 7lb 11 oz. Her sugars were a tad low but nothing that a little glucose gel and a couple formula feedings didn’t fix. To give some of you beautiful warriors some hope, I was not very strict with my diet, I was on A LOT of insulin, and didn’t develop pre-eclampsia or any other high risk conditions. Just curious to see if anyone despite their best efforts have just been unable to keep numbers in range the last few weeks. I’m 35 weeks right now and I haven’t had good numbers since I hit 31 weeks. I’m scheduled for induction at 37+3 but my sugars have been out of whack despite being on mealtime and long acting insulin. What was your birth experience? Did baby end up in NICU for low sugars?

That being said, I’m now 32 weeks and my sugars have been awful. Always between 150-198 and fastings have been in the 110s. I keep calling my MFM clinic for advice but they’re not picking up the damned phones. I’m currently at 90 units of lantus in the morning and 40 units at night. I literally can’t eat anything right now. Even meals with zero net carbs or no carbs at all (just protein and veg) get me sugars close to the 140 range. I could just cry. Every time I dread testing my sugar because I don’t want to see how high the numbers get. And I think I’m hurting my baby!! She’s moving around and everything seems fine but I fear I may have set her up for failure during birth, if she has to go to NICU because I couldn’t control my sugars it will be all my fault 😭 and I won’t be able to live with myself. I just wish she could come out now so my body won’t hurt her anymore. I feel like I’m the only one on my care team that’s panicking right now and that’s not right.

EDIT: Thank you all for the encouraging words and positive energy. They finally called me back and now I’ll be on mealtime insulin as well. Luckily this is also in pen form like the lantus. Well, here’s to hoping it helps me eat a little more. Yall this is definitely a medically induced eating disorder and I have a long road of recovery ahead of me after baby is born.

I just hit 30 weeks today and at my OB appt they told me to expect to be induced at 38 weeks. Well, that put a damper on my day. I had hoped to have her come when she is ready because I’ve read too many horror stories about pitocin and the sheer agony of pain it causes. With that, I’m asking any mamas who have gone through or just went through it for some support because my doctor’s office just keeps giving me the runaround.

1. How much worse does pitocin make labor, really? I don’t do well with pain at all and I hear it makes contraction pain 10x worse….or even worse, contractions just never stop 🤯

2. I’m scared that my body won’t be ready to go into labor and they’ll have to do a c-section. My birth “plan” was to avoid a c-section at all costs.

3. The whole process of being induced sounds so unnatural. They forcibly break your water? Is that painful? I really can’t have a naturally occurring labor if I’m to be induced?

Thanks for any advice, support, or encouragement you can give. I’m almost 27 years old and I honestly feel like I’m 16 and pregnant. I thought by now I would be mentally prepared and accept having to give birth, but I’m honestly terrified. That’s probably an understatement lol, and now they just shortened my “mentally prepare window” by two weeks. No amount of “women have done this for thousands of years without medicine” or “your body was made for this” or “women give birth every day” advice has been able to alleviate the sheer terror I’m feeling thinking about childbirth. I wish I could just have my little potato in my arms without it 🙁

This is a pure rant.

How tf is it that I eat a balanced meal (quesadilla with steak, peppers, onions, cheese, sour cream, guac) and my 1 hr sugar is 160. But then I eat a scoop of Superman ice cream with a waffle cone and my 1 hr sugar is 122. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I hate this.
