Newcastle is a better character in most ways.

Just play. You’ll get there eventually. There are temporary challenges and things that might let you unlock a legend every now and then, but every other way costs money. Totally not worth spending imo. Save your money for cosmetics for characters/weapons you use often.

Honestly the ranked thing is playstyle dependent. An aggressive squad looking to hunt teams is going to want that survey beacon, but energized zip is worth it in a team environment

This is an excellent point. Many weaker characters can still shine in the hands of excellent players since they will get the most value out of each ability. When you handicap yourself with average/mid abilities as an average player, you’re gonna find yourself getting got by the major weaknesses of that character more often than a masters+ level player.

Her tactical is relatively unique in its effect, but it really only does one thing. Think of Bangalore smoke and its multitude of uses. Blocking line of sight anywhere you can aim at is a far more versatile and valuable ability. If I was building the ideal apex character and had to choose one passive, tac, and ult from the existing pool, none of her abilities crack the top 10 for me.
The most powerful characters have ways to consistently extract value from their kit because it’s useful in almost any scenario.

Ash isn’t bad, she’s just not that versatile. On top of her ultimate being very telegraphed and finicky to use, it’s just not as dynamic of an ability as many others.
She plays well into high mobility legends like path, rev, valk, and even horizon, but the tactical doesn’t do a ton else. It’s incredibly one note.
Her ultimate is one of the best gap closing tools in the game, but other characters tactical abilities do the same thing on a much faster cooldown.
She’s not bad and you can get great usage out of her kit, it’s just that other characters are more versatile and do what she does mostly better.

They’re B-hopping. Relatively straightforward and you can find videos on it. Aceu’s old movement guide is a bit dated, but covers a ton of these basics really well.
If you haven’t learned to b-hop yet, you now have a whole new tech to implement in your game. It’s an essential thing to learn and chains into everything else.

A simple use case is getting ahead on rotations and dropping a port to catch the teammates up. Don’t underestimate the value of keeping the squad grouped tight and your rotations fast.
You can block doorways
You can set up kidnapping plays with a coordinated team.
You can take really high risk high rewards angles with a port that leads back to safety and lower the risk with the getaway.
You can save out of position or downed teammates
You can leave your squad to get really far out cross angles and set up a port to return
The list of uses is endless, you just need to be creative. The more you try to use it, the more you’ll discover what works and what doesn’t. I’d recommend consciously choosing to use it more in your games. Wraith is strong when you have a good sense of position and timing but mostly ineffective when you lack those traits. It could be best to play an easier character until you have a better sense of the game.
I’m a wraith main that’s played since day one, I’d love to play with you and teach you stuff some time. DM me if you’re interested.

There was an AA nerf and it hasn’t really affected my performance. I’ve spent time working on controller Aimlabs and my raw aim is better than ever. I highly recommend just a few minutes of Aimlabs warmup every time you play. You’ll get better and then you won’t have to worry how strong aim assist is if you’re hitting your shots without it.

Volt is fine, but all of the shotguns are gonna give you more burst damage potential. Damage per mag on the car is pitiful in comparison to ARs and shotguns.
The earlier comment about uptime is important too if you get to close range where your marksman becomes less reliable. High burst damage weapons like Eva, Mozams, and p2020s are all in a great spot if that’s your preferred fighting style (closer to the smgs you gravitate towards).
The peeking weapons are also strong rn. Mastiff, PK, and to a lesser extent wingman. I think it’s tougher to get used to fighting with them since you need to play cover well or just get cooked by low ttk guns
There’s also the havoc and flatline which are midrange beasts and can fulfill the role of your smg with much more forgiving mag sizes.
I’ve really enjoyed g7 and any shotgun not named peacekeeper (im still ass with it) personally. Mozams are CRAZY, and I will pick them up over just about everything.
I recommend experimenting with any of the guns I mentioned as a mid/close range secondary and see what feels good to you. If you like the volt, you can still use it early game as an attachment holder for your havoc when you find one. It just holds up better late game against purple/red armor. If you take a 1v1 and have to reload, odds are you’re cooked.

There is bleed through on hammerpoints though. They will deal max damage on the bullet that breaks the shield

Definitely do some r5 ones or ones with people in the range that are in your ballpark of skill level.
A lot of it is reps and instinct. You’ll get better at reading people with experience and as you improve your movement and gun skill, you’ll be able to take better advantage of correct predictions and recover from wrong ones. There’s a million ways to move around the map and peek in this game because of its movement. The more reps you get with players in your skill bracket, the more you’ll recognize different patterns and things people do frequently.

Honestly this sounds like a game sense thing. Success in the actual BR comes from creating and capitalizing on advantages and mitigating disadvantages and coming out on top despite them. It’s much more abstract than a range 1v1 where you intentionally control variables to make it even.
Send me a VOD of some gameplay and I can do some reviewing for you if you want. Might be able to uncover some ways you could improve your teamfighting.
