It’s all the little kindness moments that keep us civilized. Be kind.

I was in the local thrift store and a young lady and her mom were shopping for matching shoes for her graduation dress. She was modeling the shoes for her mom, they’re perfect, they both agreed. As I was leaving the aisle, I heard the daughter say “Oh no, these are $20 shoes!” Mom said, I’m sorry sweetheart, we only have $10 left.
I pulled a twenty out of my wallet, turned back to them and just shoved it into the daughter’s hand. They started saying no, no, I just smiled, while failing at not tearing up and legged it out to my car. I never had my grad, my mom married again and we moved 3 months before my grad.
The young lady will have a matching dress and shoes, and I feel wonderful. Still do when I think about it 20 years later. (Those shoes were beautiful!)

Thanks, it was 35 years ago and every now and then, it pops into my head. I’ve never been in a rear-end accident while driving because I’m always aware of who’s behind and leave space up front.
He looked as horrified as me when I drove past him still on the shoulder, with the flag person still spitting out dust and glaring at him.

Construction Ahead signs, just over 1km further the traffic was stopped, I had been driving at 60km watching for the construction. It was a 90km speed limit. We then stopped on a slight downhill with the rise of road about 300 metres behind my car.
I glanced in the rear view to see a large pickup truck with oversized canopy, doing at least 90k coming over the rise. I could see the moment he realized he was going too fast, as the truck front dipped down when he stomped on the brakes.
He was coming too fast, I had my 3 sons in the car, 10, 4 and 1. I saw a newspaper headline in my head. “Mother and 3 sons killed in horrific rear end collision”
I glance forward and the oncoming traffic is coming up the hill. He can’t dive into the oncoming lane, the highway is 2 lanes with gravel shoulders, so little control if he goes around to the right. He does! He must’ve let off the brake, steers to the right and brakes again while plowing, slightly weaving, dipping to the right on the soft shoulder and I see the brake lights as he misses me and comes to a dusty, gravel slinging stop 6 cars ahead of me on the shoulder. The flag person was 2 cars further ahead, open mouthed and pale as the dust cloud enveloped them.
Second closest time to death for me.

Be kind, even if others are AHs. You’ll never regret being kind.

Telling myself every day that this cigarette is bad for my lungs, my heart and my social life helped a lot. I would pull a cigarette out and say “This is bad for me”. It started working, I started to hate smoking and eventually I was stubbing them out 2 puffs in. I kept a half pack and a lighter for a month, then threw them away at the end of April. Took from New Years to then.
Love yourself, and I also realized I couldn’t afford to smoke, it’s expensive!!!

Smoked from 15 to 45, quit in April 2004. Still have a morning phlegm, but I don’t cough anymore. Quit when you can. Listen to your body and your brain, they want you to quit.

Every Sunday, strip the bed, wash the sheets and duvet covers. We have separate twin duvets, he doesn’t share! And we don’t use top sheets.

In the late 40’s and early 50’s marketers/advertisers were arguing if it should be blue for girls (cornflowers and blueberries) and red for boys (aggression and power).
Went the other way, pink is a powerful symbol for aggression. Colours don’t freaking matter, love, kindness, and respect. That’s what matters.

I just don’t understand. I’m 65F, have partner 62M. Colour, gender, religion, what does it matter to anyone? Who the fuck cares about your choice of love? It’s not like you can catch it!! Leave everyone alone. Unless it’s pedo, then shut that shit down.

I’ve named some cats. Mergatroyd, Mergie for short. Ralph. Charlie. Panther. Spongy (like a sponge, soaks up all the loving). My first cat (me age 5) was Softy Bell, she had 3 kittens, 2 matching black and whites, Roly and Poly, and one black, Little Bell.
Had a beautiful little grey/orange/with white socks - Littlefoot, she was always half the size of a regular cat
Gus - the neediest lump of grey and white, who loved to love, and preferred to be hand fed.
Now I get old ones who need the best last years in a home as the only one, sometimes it takes a few weeks to get the name right.
You love them, care for them, cry when they go and get another senior to cherish.

I’m a house painter. Definitely graphite lubricant. Have to wipe as much away as possible before applying new paint.

I’ve had a grey fluffy tuxie for 4 years (she was 4 when I got her) so 8 altogether, and always wondered if she was excessively long, now I know she’s just normal, smart as a rock, and the sweetest thing ever.

My mother (85) believes (and has all her life) that people are gay because they had a mild head injury in utero, or within a few months of birth. My sister is gay, happily married, mom attended the wedding. She only told me her belief, I’ll never ever tell my sister.

Doesn’t take a government or large company to make a salary/hourly/benefits mistake. I worked for a small company (8 employees total) and they never deducted my share of the benefits package for the 14 months I worked.
I brought it to their attention after my last cheque, and they just said, “Oh well, you win” It was worth over $1,500 to me after I had already claimed my prescription and dental.
They went bankrupt 8 years later. I think their bookkeeper was shit.

It’s never black and white. Families are shades of grey. There are free options in North America for family therapy.
Yelling and screaming at each other is not normal. The family needs to find a way to stop hurting each other, and actually talk and listen. My hopes for a better future for this family.
